What does it mean though?

Kaan means " KHAN " eternal ruler, the highest military rank that comes from KAN (Blood) that simply means blessed blood.
It's old Turkic words that has multiple versions.

Khan, HAN, Hakan, Kagan, Kan is identical meaning.

Its actually a really good name, from all the things i saw being thrown about i actually had really low expectations for how it would be named. But in the end they gave it a good name which i dont think too many people will be against.

No. it means same. But it was created different era of turkic language / mongol language that gets extra meaning. it all originated from ḳaġan/χaġan/χān.. Similar like

Timur/tegi / temir/ demir/ teymour/ etc etc.

Think Genghis Khan for historical connection. Others have translated Khan/Kaan but the full name translates to brave/strong/unbeatable leader/Emporer/ruler in Turkish.
Both Cengiz and Kaan are very common names in Turkey, although the combined Cengiz Kaan is unusual.
