Lacking transparency I can understand due to critical systems and the region we're in. But doesn't change that you can be mum and still have highly professional security, procurement process etc. and such.

Turkey is in the 2nd last category, and I don't think the risks are overstated tbh.

But too many are missing the damn point. Building our own jet, Hürjet is the single most important achievement we must succeed. And the later models must fly with our own jet engine!

TFX comes later,

and 5th later and 6th much later

Btw what is the progress of the Ozgur project as it's a really confusing one to follow. I heard it was signed on 2012 and completed already but they still introduce new parts to the project like the new IFF (2018) and the new AESA radar (Testing on F-16 starting in 2022) ?

Yea they're quite secretive about it. I don't think the program is 100% complete at the moment but it has been a success. They're waiting for ASELSAN's AESA radar and perhaps some other things.

Özgür program=Structural modernization+Avionics+IFF+ Aselsan GaN AESA radar. The structural modernization is going on, avionics and IFF modernization are tested and qualified on prototype block 30. The AESA radar will be integrated into the prototype fighter next year. After radar integration, structurally modernized F-16s will undergo Özgür modernization package.

That's what I find interesting. I spoke to an F-16 pilot the other day. Said the production variants of the F-16 Özgür would retain the digital camouflage. So as far as I can understand... Structurally modernized Block 30's will start operating. When the AESA arrives the Özgür upgrade will also be applied to the modernized Vipers. This means they will also re-paint the aircraft. Which imho doesn't make a lot of sense. I mean... why not just apply the digital camo when you're making the structural modernizations? Why is TAI making life more difficult for themselves :D It's easier to paint the F-16's now. There are a couple of possibilities here. The pilot that I interviewed may have been poorly informed abt the program, TAI may have been trying to keep the digital camouflage a secret or the camo thing was cancelled entirely. I think we still need answers to these questions. TAI being a d**k as always is making things harder though lmao

He also said the Özgür project is in a very advanced stage and TR can upgrade its own F-16s in the house without any problem both electronics/avionics and upgrade kits can be produced nationally.

We could earn ridiculous amounts of money if we could establish a business of upgrading F16s to the latest standards. There are over 3000 F16s in the world. Maybe someone could do some math on how much profit we'd make per plane and what would be the volume? But i guess we'd need a license for it, right?

Still want the F35?

It won't be good as F35 We shouldn't fool ourselves.
F35 made by several countring in span of 15 years We are talking about US and other countries.
TFX will be like typhoon or rafale not a true fifth gen fighter
4.5 gen jets are better anyway so

I sincerely hope that we can have Hürkus flying with domestic engine because that should be possible if it's 90% as good as P&W I'd be happy. Of course need to improve.

Problem is that I fear that all those engine projects are hoax of sorts since we're not delivering any domestic engine. Then again I'm wondering is it because we don't want to reveal what we can do openly and keep it under hiding.

Considering all those hidden embargos we're facing, double standards do we want to reveal our hand too soon or too late.

It depends very much on how the turboshaft project matures. If it matures and deployed well, having a turboprop based on it will be natural next step.

Better domestic engine start from UAV and cruise missile program than plane ( more expensive, smaller in quantity, more demanding power and lifespan, etc)

A total cliché question, how much of that "engine" have we completed ?

I know TEI has said we've developed the core engine, but how much else progress has been made ? If anyone have an infogram depicting the engine and showing percentage wise and with colors completing it would be really helpful.

personally , I stopped following ( engine projects - altay tank project ) news because it's became a pure propaganda not just by the government but also by ssb and defense firms .
