Will the US refund $1.4B Turkey paid for F-35s?

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the US proposed the sale of F-16 fighter jets as compensation for Turkey's $1.4 billion payment for F-35s. So, is the US trying to strong-arm Turkey into a deal to buy an older and less effective US fighter jet by holding onto the $1.4 billion?

For US strategically it'd be better to return the money. I imagine the purchase and deliver is going to take a long time and if Hürjet and MMU progresses as planned and Hürjet starts flying that's when we can expect the F16 delivery.

IMO

IMO, Lockheed can get that lovely 1.4 billion dollars for whatever the company wanna use them in and the US will get extra benefits such as
1- Employing more wrokforce for setting new production lines for Turkey or maybe keep the employed ones working in the F16 Viper production line which will help in reducing the unemployment rate especially when the US is facing unclear prospects about unemployment in the country (it is slowly increasing)
2- Instead of giving the 1.4 billion dollars back to Turkey, Lockheed can spend that money in R&D since they need every penny to keep up and surpass China and Russia; especially when both countries succeeded in theifhypersonic missile test while the US didnt
3- Prevent Turkey from giving such massive amounts to competitors like Russia which will help Russian companies perform any of the former 2 points
4- The US gains a profit margin from this 1.4 billion dollars (as far as I know, but I may be wrong) so why would the US lose any source of cash if possible

F16 blck 70 with AN/APG-83 is not older/outdated fighter, it is more reliable, solid, cheaper and less stealthy alternative and should always be welcomed. I think it is much better than buying any Chinese or Russian plane. AN/APG-83 has 370 km range (if it is really included). This deal will be absolute gain.. 120 F16V

F35 still needs time to mature. Unless Turkey is going to have a war with Greece, Israel or Russia.. there is no need for F35 in my opinion (besides Turkey won't be able to use it against American friends/ proxies.. so useless)

Reality is far from that. It has a slightly better range than AN/APG-69(V)9. Real improvement comes in electronic warfare resilience and multi-function capability.

11 US Congressmen sent a letter to Biden about Turkey;

- F-16 should not be sold to Turkey

- Congress blocks if the administration approves the sale.

- F-35s were not issued because of the S400

- Danger to Turkey, the USA and our allies

Look at the surnames. Thats all I need to know.
It was a letter to the US Congress about the cancellation of the sale of 40 new F-16 Vipers in Turkey and the upgrade kits for the 80 existing fighters with a total of 11 signatures from members of the House of Representatives. Of the 11 who signed, 5 are of Greek origin.
-Politician Nicole Malliotakis-Republican Party
-Lawyer Gus M. Bilirakis-Republican Party
-Lawyer John Sarbanes-Democratic Party
-Politician Dina Titus-Democratic Party
-Businessman & politician Chris Pappas-Democratic Party.
The House of Representatives of the Congress has 432 members for the period 3/1/2021-3/1/2023 and the Senate of the Congress has 100 members with its next elections to be held on November 8, 2022. The remaining 6 signatories are the folowing:
-Carolyn Maloney (politician)-Democratic Party
-David Cicilline (lawyer/politician)-Democratic Party
-Jim Costa (politician)-Democratic Party
-David Valadao (politician)-Republican Party
-Brian Fitzpatrick (lawyer/politician & former FBI officer)-Republican Party
-Jackie Speier (lawyer/politician)-Democratic Party
The only Senator who so strongly supports these initiatives is the Democrat Bob Menendez, while if it were not for the Greek community to support this whole geopolitical campaign, nothing would have happened. However, this alone is not enough because it is a minority in a political world where he flirts with Turkey at the first opportunity.

yeah lets use more inferior jets Air force won't do that stop watching a haber serbian
They are not inferior just less marketed then competition. Best advantage of potential purchasing of su57 or j20 is that enemy is not sure of their capabilites, on the other hamd f35 is scanned completely from russiams in syria.

It seems that the US which removed Turkey from the F35 project for absurd reasons, will now approve the sale of the F16. Since F35 is within the scope of CAATSA, it does not seem possible to buy the F35 at this stage. For this reason, until TFX enters the inventory, the Turkish air force fleet will be as follows:

40 F16 Block-70
80 F16V upgrade (Block70 standard)
~145-150 F16 Block30/40 (that is being upgraded with Özgür- Aselsan AESA and Gökhan Ramjet missiles)

It is likely but I think a last-minute roadblock is also possible or the US might play smart and give a schedule of 10 years for F-16V procurement and upgrade.

we must buy Eurofighter or chinese J series. we shouldn't keep investing USA weapons. no lessons learned so far.
I know logistics etc is a very big problem but we have deal with if we want to survive.
Not giving already paid F-35 is not based on a realistic reason
Not handing over Fethullah Gulen is clearly hostility
Supporting PKK, fortifying Greece... countless reasons show that USA wants to end us. And yet we ask for new weapons to them
