In this thread all subjects in relation to Turkish American relationship should be discussed.


In my opinion the relationship will be tougher in the coming years.
The s400 test in Turkey indicates that Turkey will not step back in the activation of the s400 system. Washington was very quiet, but I think the main reason is the election. After the election we will see what impact the s400 test will have. Furthermore there are many more problems (Syria, ypg, Mediterranean etc.) and little subjects where Turkey and America seems to have same opinion.

Although I think Trump is the better for turkey then Biden, it is more a bad worse situation for Turkey. If Trump wins the anti Turkish Neocons will pressure trump to maybe sanction turkey (Caatsa?). And Biden openly said he want to get rid of Erdoğan (coup).

For me it looks like there will be hard times in the Turkish American relationship.

At this point the US is rolling back its "international commitments" in America there is sense to end these "endless wars" Biden despite being part of the neo liberal/neo-conservative blob out of DC for 5 decades he had to be careful to the American public about future conflicts the US has not responded well to the advent of the multi-polar world.Now for Turkish-American relations I thnk Trump has been sorta better less critical towards Turkey, more transactional relationship with Erdogan much more than Obama who was going full throttle with the Kurds Trump could care less let the sand nogs fight while we have the oil is his mentality but a return to pre 2011 is impossible Erdogan may be very bad at foreign affairs and takes risky gambles but even if a hard core Kemalist comes into power Turkey will increasingly become more independent in foreign affairs due to large G20 economy tho stagnant and decent sized armed forces in fantasy I know this will be highly unlikely but Turkey once NATO gets further weakend should really join the SCO, Eurasian Economic Union, and CSTO led by Moscow or at least work with them.The EU has no interest in adding Turkey as member due to perceived prejudice towards Turkey being too large and too "Muslim" but backdoor is possible through the Balkans I really think Turkey recent investments in Albania,Serbia, Bosnia and North Macedonia or ex Yugoslav states is a way to help them gain EU membership and via political parties support create pan-Turkish or pro Turkish parties there so thats one back door

Really well that's complicated I still think the US views Turkey as an indispensable ally despite its relative independence rumors of potential replacement of strategic areas to Romania is just ludicrous that would give Turkey away to the Russians

I don't think its black and white situation since Turkey has major issues with Russia too.

It would also after all involve NATO scrapping, ejection of or reforming of it without Turkey etc...for this to really carry water.

If that course of events happen (say under Biden presidency since one would think his statements of interference into Turkey would cross red lines).... Turkey will just become a separate geopolitical entity and chart a course it sees fit....not getting close to anyone too much.

Of course to an avid observer we know the fraught relations Ankara has with Moscow but the DC blob for last few years have been harping on Russo-Turk alliance when they clearly forget that Turkey and Russia at best are frenemies

Last week I talked with Erdogan. He told me, it depends on few things. Development of Nukes. Sophisticated air defence system, ICBM and hypersonic missiles. After this, we will leave NATO. NATO know this. Thats why they try to stop this developments. Now, you know the truth.

If Biden listens to his FM person then they'll go for a quip pro quo.

Only question is whether we'll negotiate or take action. Since the economy is in a precarious situation I do not think we'll move into action, and negotiating is out of the question. But we can't allow the current situation on establishing terror state to our south to go on.

Assad and Turkey needs to mend ties to break this situation. IMO
