84-year-old military ship becomes a 'museum'​

In the Bodrum district of Muğla, the ship named 'TCG Güven', which was scrapped after serving as a 'diver ship' for the Turkish navy and purchased by businessman Aydoğan Acarer, is now a museum.​

'TCG Güven', which joined the Turkish navy after being manufactured in Germany in 1937, served as a diver ship and a fire extinguisher ship for many years, and was scrapped in 1987. Businessman Aydoğan Acarer, who owns a maritime company, bought the ship anchored in Kasımpaşa and used it within his own company. Collaborating with the Bodrum Naval Museum, Acarer signed a protocol for the ship to be used as a museum for everyone to see. It is reported that the ship, which will be opened to visitors in the coming months, will serve 6 days a week.

'I SEE THE MUSEUM IDEA ATTRACTIVE'​

Stating that the ship will be kept alive with the museum for many years, Aydoğan Acarer said, "This ship was built for the Turkish Navy in Germany in 1937 and delivered in the same year. It first serves as a diving ship and then as a fire fighting ship in the Navy. The ship was moored in front of Kasımpaşa Naval Forces. He used to take me to this ship when I was a kid when I went for a walk with my father. We used to spend time on the ship. Since I have childhood memories on the ship, I followed the ship for many years. After many years of service, it was scrapped in 1987. I bought the scrapped ship, launched it again in 1996, but reset it. "I completely restored it, we made it up to date. The ship is still working. The museum idea proposed by Bodrum Naval Museum Director Selen Cambazoğlu (41) was appealing," he said.

Providing information about the project, Bodrum Naval Museum Director Selen Cambazoğlu said, "This process started about 2 years ago. Mr. Aydoğan came to visit our museum. This type of cultural heritage items can be put into operation as 'museum ships' in the world. Although there are many examples in the world, examples in our country. It does not exceed 10 fingers. 'Why don't we build a museum?' I said, Mr. Aydogan also found this idea very warm. A ship ready to become a museum with the objects and accessories inside. Defence spending has stayed the same it only increased until now. The thing is Turkey never spends big no matter what.

Turkey faces both internal and external threats its pretty fascinating how they did not budge in increasing it to huge amounts.

The defence projects is a long term goal of Turkey. Turkey for decades has went through a shit economy it has changed nothing regarding their military industry.

Its easy to buy stuff rather than build.
