I think, Navy needed such an interim solution. If it has around 12-14 meters wingspan and if it will be able to take off as STOL. I mean, an aircraft with the avionics capability of Aksungur and Akıncı also that could have the payloads capacity of an almost MALE class UCAV, including A-to-G/S missiles and even Satcom, but packaged as compactly as possible. Aksungur and Akıncı are not suitable aircrafts to take off from LHD/LHA deck. On the other hand, Bayraktar TB2 has low lifting capacity(bcs of its class) and some electronic/avionic weaknesses that cannot meet the needs of the Navy.

Or simply, we will come across a kind of maximum domestic solution TB2 ++, for example with increased payload(6 Mam-l?) as well as domestic CATS and more advanced avionics. If it is, the reason for the new naming may be the transition to new airframe, as it involves much larger engine and replenishing large number of avionics.
I think it is a good opportunity to develop TB3 in two versions. One for land and one for sea.
If it can be made suitable for carrier based operations this would be great. For that the landing gear and most of the equipment on it will have to be made to withstand the landing forces and the rigours of the sea and salt.
It should have enough lift with more powerful engine and a tweak with wing area when using the ski lift. Especially if they can fit a brake-release mechanism to the runway to assist take off.
for landing an arrester hook will have to be used. This technology is new to us. So it has to be developed on land to start with. Then when perfected, moved to our LHD.
nothing ventured nothing gained!!

Guys if you consider lighter UAV just for spotting, then i would recall ASELSAN VIPER laser target designator which has ultralight weight around 6 kg.

But those lightweight laser designators have limited range capacity .
(Typical Designation Range: 5 km tank- 10 km building)

So if you don't care to fly closely to enemy you could use lighter designator. But sometimes you need to find optimal range-threat ratio.

Edit: i forgot about power source . How long , how many hours could run a thermal camera and a laser designator from little battery? Powersource also another factor which makes bigger UAVs dimension.

So there is capacity for 24 Akinci and 36 Mius production per year? Looks to me that the Mius is further in development than we think. 36 fast deployable UAV's per year is very nice to have

LNA, SAA and Armenians have difficulties to even detect TB-2 flying above their air defence systems few examples... TOR-M2, PANTSIR, 9k33 OSA, BUK-M1 and S-300.

Go figure what a turbofan engine powered UCAV with internal weapons bay and stealth features will do to any hostile opponent.
Short it's a game changer weapon.

whats now with tb2 happening is it dead because of tb3?

my opinion would be to use pg115 engine and DASS but it seems like they didnt consider this

PG115 is most likely for modernized Heron drones.

TB2 is a tactical UAS.

Considering TB3 will use PD-170, size wise it will be a MALE UAV/UCAV.

There is need for hand-held drones, there is need for catapult launched drones, there is need for rotor craft drones, there is need for loitering munitions, there is a need for tactical UAS, there is need MALE drones, there is need for HALE drones.

Drones come in all shapes and sizes, the definition of a drone could be applied to missiles, air launched bombs etc.

PG115 would be the perfect upgrade for the TB2. We don't know if it is a mature engine yet. Or if it is abandoned altogether. We don't actually know anything about it. It would be a drop in replacement for even civilian planes of around 650 kg which is considered Light Sport Aircraft or LSA for short. Next time someone gets hold of Mr. Mahmut Akşit they have to make him talk.

Yes but it has been a year now since it was mentioned. Perhaps it was a refurbishment of some other engine. Otherwise it would be so unreasonable to make just 6 copies.

Actually we don't have a need for a new class of MALE UAV.
There is Anka and Aksungur filling that gap.
We need tactical UAS made with cheap engine, cheap electronics to be deployed in mass amounts, with lower RCS.
TB2 filled that gap, even further with carrying weapons.
Adding anti-jam GNSS, Satcom, higher altitude, it becomes a male and looses the leverage of cost and size.

I wanna point out to a misconception I've read in a number of our Members. TB-2 drones doesn't have low RCS or at least that isn't the reason why It wasn't be able to shot down easily by SAM systems.

S300 or many other SAM system is developed to shoot down very fast fighter jets and alike. Their Radars were specialized to target such aircrafts both hardware or software wise. Our UAVs and Israli Harpy loitering munition both are slower than detection range of these SAM systems. This has been discussed in twitter similar discussions among other places.

There is no way of knowing Developing barely stealthy UAVs (like that is mentioned many post here) would do us any good. Some F16, F18 variants have such stealthy features and There hasn't any military literature claiming these would be useful in any real conflict ı've seen.

I agree we need to make turbofan/jet powered UAVs but there is no need to invest into terribly complicated design with internal weapon bay. What We need is cheap, Simple and reliable solution like TB-2 which can carry number of mk82/mk83 very quickly without risking F16. We need to spend our R&D budget on MMU not these.
