The British monarchy (post Rome-Saxon-Viking-Norman "dark age" turbulence) never faced the serious challenges that Continental Europe did (and Turkiye even more so given its geography location).

This is largely due to Britain being an Island.

There was one major succession crisis dynasty war (War of the Roses), and that was about it.

In fact the concept of monarchy was more important than it being British per se (as illustrated by William of Orange episode).

Where I'm going with this was it was really the grave territorial losses the Ottoman empire faced (that Britain never did with regards to its home island) that brought about the massive decline in the Sultan role in Turkish perception. Hence the seeds of a republic were sown that the great Ataturk would bring to fruition.

That is also why Cromwell (seen as a radical compared to say Fairfax) and co (like John Cook) were unable to have the fire "catch" w.r.t having a non-monarchy given vast undercurrent for the institution they had facing them at that moment (England and Britain just had not faced what the Ottomans would face later in 19th and 20th century).

Retribution was in the eye for an eye format afterwards with much popular support.

Fairfax in comparison was recognised to not have gone after the King's neck, just wanted an increase of parliamentary power in the system which was granted over time in its particular unique British way....and so Fairfax was held in pretty high repute in the restoration period.

Cromwell head (his body was exhumed and decapitated in a "posthumous execution") would sit on a pike and then a giblet for 100s of years till it was interred in the 20th century sometime iirc.

There used to be a Wikipedia article on an interesting theory about genetics which has since been deleted (nothing may question The Science™) called Maximum Genetic Diversity. Some of you might find it interesting because it makes some interesting observations and apparently better matches the fossil record than the naive genetic mutation model that's more commonly accepted:

Using calculations based on mutations in these slow-mutating genes provides a chart of genetic ancestry that lines up with the fossil record - measurements based on raw genetic similarity yield results that clash with the fossil record.[2][1][8][9] Also due to this grouping into fast and slow, MGD hypothesizes that over time complex organisms become genetically fragile and less tolerant to mutation as their MGD decreases, since an increasing proportion of their genome will have become slow-mutating over time.[10]

i.e what it led to in the end with the Artillery officer from Corsica being "Emperor" and then the bourbon restoration and all that as things were not done optimally/rationally in the initial revolutionary period as to what the exact problem was that needed fixing rather than going too far and having the reverse end up happening as the void you create becomes too much for what society/context had.

That is why to me the American revolution is the general gold standard in its concise approach and the very important follow up (with some of the best political minds and enlightened thinkers involved of the day).

I hold Ataturk in very high regard here as well, given the situation and context he had and what he managed to do with it.

But I understand where my friend Manomed is coming from, I had a radical thought phase in my younger years as well (there was no such thing as social media and the online fora I was at was very limited scope back then compared to what it is now):

A) the world around you is unfair in various ways made obvious to you and it imposes its cost each day.

Honestly I couldnt imagine this level of inflation and this long he has when I was student in my uni years. He has genuine grievance against the current Turkish administration in various other ways too (like many members do, with whom I have discussed such things at times too).

My own circumstances at that age were different to his in specifics but I have some sense to what underlies it. My father saw lot more of it (given he grew up in India unlike me) and told me at length his experiences too. I have a large account of all kind of folks experiences ranging from Europe to China. I see certain similar threads connecting all of them.

B) you want things to change quick and fast (either something new or something old that clearly worked lot better)

C) given you have whole life ahead of you etc.... you want most equal level playing field possible so you have a decent and reasonable chance of success afforded to you. There needs to be some base level of trust and confidence in the system and society for important paths of your life to have definition, clarity and bounds.

This drives purpose and meaning in the end....hope has its place but it cannot serve as Ersatz for these other critical things in the human psyche.

It takes its certain character in your 20s compared to your 30s and then 40s.... and then later in life when you have made more decisions (on various forks in road that only come with time), compromises, reconciliation to certain things and the larger experience that forms one's unique tapestry.

Like there is lot of stuff now I would disagree quite strongly with younger "me". lol.

I might speak harshly but most of the people here knows that Im a good person.

I just can't stand seeing corruption in human minds.

I can't shut my mouth while seeing the injustice, corruption and division in my homeland If everyone shuts up no one will stand up to those who oppress the Turkish people.
