Until 2023, Akıncı will be today's Bayraktar Tb-2. MIUS will come out of the new hangar. We wouldn't want to have a pause waiting period in between. Baykar Makine should be able to execute 2 large projects at the same time. In fact, Turkey does not have time to wait for maturation of this project. All UAV companies should meet in a single project. Thus, waste of resources is prevented with the power union that will be formed. Turkey Baykar machine should not be forced to choose between TAI and Vestel Defense. The bidding system is just a waste of time. We no longer have time to waste.
Akıncı is not replacement of Aksungur, or vice-versa.
Akıncı will not replace TB2 too, TB2 is still favorable with its price, size, maintenance costs. Akıncı is a target of new capability, more payload, speed and altitude, anything less than those targets is already achieved.
Akıncı is not completed until it is equipped with 750 hp engines, reaching the target of 1+ tonnes payload or 45k feet service ceiling, for anything less than those, there is already Aksungur, equipped with missiles, ready to fly, matured.
Telling again, except of Aksungur the rest of projects are not coming from the companies but from SSB. Aksungur was probably a special requirement by Naval Forces which wasn't ever appointed during preperation of UAV roadmap as they were and are being ignored on AD missile plans.
We need more platforms to meet specific needs of different forces.
Aksungur and Akıncı will not compete, neither MIUS of different companies will. SSB will award a company for development of MIUS when the time comes, based on capability and infrastructure of the companies.
Note: Karayel has not left out because of the competition with Baykar or TAI, Vestel was asked to develop a platform particularly designed small enough to be launched from catapult, they magically ended up with a tactical sized male, and later an armed male platform.
