Perhaps this can be made a sticky about Indian Businessman Kulbhushan Jadhav whose execution by Pakistan was stayed by the International Court of Justice at Hague

India on Sunday said Pakistan's allegations that Indian troops deliberately targeted a vehicle of the United Nations along the Line of Control were investigated in detail and found to be factually "incorrect and false".

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said Pakistan should responsibly investigate its "lapses" instead of repeating "baseless and fabricated" allegations against India to cover up its own "failure" in ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel in territory under its control.

Pakistan on Friday alleged that Indian troops targeted a vehicle of United Nations Military Observers (UNMO) in the Chirikot sector along the LoC. Indian government sources rejected the allegations that day itself. In response to media queries on allegations by Pakistan, Srivastava also said that India has conveyed its findings and views on "these misrepresentations" to the Pakistani side.


"Allegations by Pakistan regarding Indian forces deliberately targeting a UN vehicle on 18 Dec have been investigated in detail and found to be factually incorrect and false. Our forward troops were aware of the visit of UN Military Observers in the area and did not conduct any firing as alleged," he said. "Instead of repeating baseless and fabricated allegations against India to cover up its own failure in ensuring the safety and security of UN personnel in territory under its control, Pakistan should responsibly investigate its lapses," the MEA spokesperson said.

Surgical strikes on Pakistan have been grabbing headlines in India especially after Pakistan’s foreign minister SM Qureshi again alleged that India is preparing for a “surgical strike” to divert attention from the country’s internal issues.

However, an Indian security expert has claimed Pakistan could be planning a terror attack in India and would expect a retaliation ‘surgical strike’

Speaking at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, Qureshi claimed that India is trying to seek “tacit approval” from “important players who they consider to be their partners”.

“An important development has cropped up… I’ve learned through our intelligence forces… that India is planning a surgical strike against Pakistan,” said Qureshi. “This is a serious development and I also have knowledge that they have tried to seek tacit approval from important players who they consider to be their partners.”

India hasn’t officially responded to this allegation yet. Abhijit Iyer-Mitra, a senior fellow at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, New Delhi says Pakistan has a history of making such claims.

He said after these claims were made by the Pakistani government, he checked satellite imagery. “There is no unusual activity on any of the Indian Army and Air Force bases. They have a history of making such claims,” Iyer-Mitra told EurAsian Times.

During the press conference, Qureshi claimed that the Indian government is trying to divert attention “serious internal issues.” Elaborating on this, he said that the situation in Kashmir “was never good but has deteriorated further”. He also pointed out the ongoing farmer’s protest against the central government resulting from “the policies of this regime, the BJP regime”.

“The mishandling of the coronavirus by Indian authorities is known to everyone. The impact that it is having on their economy is known to all,” Qureshi said. He further issued a warning that Pakistan would retaliate with a strike “a notch above” if India carries out the strike.

“I want to tell India very clearly that Pakistan is fully prepared to respond and to defeat their designs,” he said. “We will do it effectively as we did respond immediately and effectively in February 2019. And we will respond effectively if they choose this path.”

Terror Attack In India?

Challenging Pakistan’s claims, Iyer-Mitra said that he tried verifying the Pakistani government claims from officials in the Pentagon and National Security Agency (NSA) in the United States but nothing has shown up on their radars as well.

However, Iyer-Mitra made a startling claim saying that such a statement from Pakistan may be followed by a terror attack in India.

“Such statements are a marker that there is going to be a terror attack in India, intended to provoke us [India] and to force a reaction after,” he claimed.

He emphasized that Pakistan had made similar claims of India starting a war with Pakistan before Uri Attack and the Pulwama terror attack happened. “Such claims were made before the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 claiming such an action would help Modi win the election.”

“By making these claims right now, Pakistan will later say that the attack was launched by the government itself,” Iyer noted.

“It is a calculated shield to later plan a terror attack. He claimed that the statistics supporting this are only 40-45%.”

Affect On Afghan Peace Process

Briefing the media in the United Arab Emirates, Quershi issued a warning that if India attacks Pakistan, it could have “catastrophic consequences” and would “seriously undermine” the Afghan peace process.

“In our opinion, Pakistan feels that if they undertake this misadventure, it will seriously undermine the Afghan peace process, which has moved forward, and if things go wrong, India would be held responsible for this,” he said.

“I urge the global community to caution India to refrain and desist. And to not test Pakistan’s resolve.”

On this, Iyer-Mitra said that Pakistan has been peddling this lie for a long time that the solution to Afghanistan lies in Kashmir. Explaining Pakistan’s theory, he said that Islamabad believed that if the Kashmir issue was resolved, there wouldn’t be anger in the people fuelling insurgency in Afghanistan.

“What Pakistan is saying is the more secure Pakistan feels the more they can crack down on internal terror organizations. and therefore attacks in Afghanistan will reduce.”

Yeah,he is correct for first time,lmao.
This could be another attempt by the hostile country to launch terror attack and so declaring to international community to prevent India's attack,they know this that in case of any attack,India will strike.

S/he has read too much of game theory recently.

Pakistan is always seeking to highlight the Kashmir issue. I remember during the Clinton visit, Pak proxies killed some 30 odd Sikhs in Jammu.

The only thing that has been a major shift under the Modi Administration has been the retaliation everytime Pak tries something.

The reports of Syrian mercs are sorta true but I doubt Pakistani SSGs were fighting for the Azerbaijanis in the recent Karbakh conflicts

Next week, Pakistan plans to launch its immunisation programme against Covid, starting with health workers getting jabs of free doses of a China-made vaccine.
Next door, arch-rival India began one of the world's biggest inoculation drives against the disease in mid-January. The vaccine powerhouse - India makes about 60% of vaccines globally - has also begun shipping millions of free doses to friendly neighbours in the region, in what is being described as "vaccine diplomacy".
Unsurprisingly, Pakistan is not a recipient. The two nuclear-armed rivals have fought three wars since gaining independence from Britain in 1947, with the last war between them taking place in 1971. They came to the brink of war in 2019 over the disputed territory of Kashmir.
Pakistan plans to inoculate at least 70% of its 220 million people against Covid free of cost. Regulators have given emergency use approval for three candidates - the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, the China-made Sinopharm and Russian-developed Sputnik V. Another China-made vaccine CanSino Biologics is in final clinical trials in Pakistan. The country has recorded more than 530,000 infections, and 11,514 deaths from the infection so far.
For starters, China has pledged to donate 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm to Pakistan, and the first batches are expected to arrive at the weekend. "This is nothing. We will need a lot more vaccines," Usman Ghani of Sindh Medical Stores, a leading Karachi-based importer of vaccines, told me.

To be sure, Pakistan will try to source doses from all over the world, including through the World Health Organisation or WHO's ambitious scheme, Covax, that works towards the development, purchase and delivery of vaccines to more than 180 countries. But there are fears that richer countries could hoard jabs at the expense of poorer ones. That is where India could play a key role in ensuring that its neighbour is not starved of vaccines.

Despite the fraught relations, pharmaceutical trade between the two countries has been stable. In 2018, Pakistan's pharma imports from India were estimated at more than $62m (£45m). Some 60-70% of active ingredients contained in medicines sold in Pakistan are imported from India.

More importantly, almost 90% of vaccines administered in Pakistan come from India, according to Mr Ghani. Indian vaccines, he adds, are "world-class, affordable and shipping is easy". Most of these vaccines are distributed through Pakistan's state-funded immunisation programme which targets 14 million new-borns and pregnant women every year. The children are given jabs against 10 diseases while mothers are inoculated against tetanus.

Mr Ghani believes Pakistan will get vaccines from India in the near future. India's drug regulator has given the green light to Covishield (the local name for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine developed in the UK) and Covaxin, locally made by pharma company Bharat Biotech. "India already has got so many vaccine orders from all over the world. We have cordial relations with vaccine makers across the border. We will try our best to get supplies, but it will take time," Mr Ghani says.

An Indian foreign ministry spokesman has said he was not "aware of any request for India-made vaccines" from Pakistan. Many believe it is a question of time when India begins supplying doses. "We will harm ourselves if we don't cooperate on vaccines," says Mr Ghani.

Meanwhile, Delhi is steaming ahead with its "vaccine diplomacy".

Last year, senior diplomats of a number of countries were taken on trips to four vaccine makers across the country. This month, India began shipping early free doses to Bhutan, Maldives, Burma, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Bahrain. Commercial supplies have begun to Brazil and Morocco. Countries have appealed to India to lift export controls and provide vaccines at government-facilitated affordable prices. India, a foreign ministry official told me, plans to do it "case by case" after assessing local production and demand.

Serum Institute of India - the world's largest vaccine maker which is making its vaccine called Covishield in India - has pledged to deliver up to 200 million doses to low and middle-income countries before the end of 2021. More than 20 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe are "highly interested" in Covaxin, a spokesperson for Bharat Biotech said. "There's huge international demand for our vaccines," Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla told Bloomberg TV recently.

Many believe India's vaccine diplomacy is a counter to growing Chinese influence in the region. "India's vaccine diplomacy puts it in direct competition with China - which has made no secret that vaccine distribution is wrapped up in its broader geopolitical ambitions. In fact, it has even explicitly included vaccine distribution in its broader Health Silk Road initiative, which aims to bolster China's international soft power," note Harsh Pant and Aarshi Tirkey, researchers at Delhi-based think tank Observer Research Foundation (ORF), in a paper.

China's state-affiliated Global Times has run stories on how Indians in China have been "embracing" Chinese vaccines, and that India faces challenges in supplying vaccines to the world. Earlier this week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian downplayed this, saying there was no vaccine competition between the countries. "On this issue, there should not be vicious competition, and certainly not confrontation," Mr Zhao told reporters.

Not for long. Seen this every 2-3 years since 2004. It won't stop until crossborder infiltration won't stop. Pakistan's establishment is in no mood for that now anyway. It's like an addiction on their part.

One thing that has changed is India has become more assertive in the last 5 years or so and probably laid down a playing field ( the real reason for China to assert force during the middle of a crisis s still not known in the open forum but has something to do with everything, My opinion). Whatever it is the wheel started rolling 3 years ago. wait for few weeks or probably months it will be more clear. The timing is too perfect.

There is more to it than meets the eye. Wait and see.

It is matter of them realising the losses sustained (esp in response to art 370 scrapping) was taking way larger impact on them than us.

Hence they will buy some time again with a ceeasfire (fine by us too, why not, lives saved on our side is always good).

I don't see any serious movement on any other front (to get structural progress) till they approach the mumbai attack terorrists (and the larger network, D-company etc) far more seriously as a 1st step.

Consider that they released daniel pearl murderers....w.r.t a country that has far more internal influence/sway within their GHQ (and deployed military assets) and one they have been saying they want to re-enter the good ole days with again (F-16 simping etc).

If you consider that, then what chance they have with making real peace (with severe loss of face, but it can be packaged as something different if they put effort on it) with the full-on existential enemy in their minds?

Temporary peace as both will gear up and stack up their defences.

Who will make the first move is the real question.

Pakistan and India have a habit of doing ceasefires and peace then you have raids and skirmishes.

Stakes are too high for both to give up their positions. Pakistan wants Kashmir while India will do whatever necessary to keep it.
