Critical minerals listed in the US critical minerals list and their occurance in Türkiye. Bold type items are rare earth minerals. 24 out of 50 critical elements occur in Türkiye. However their abundance or economical viability of their extraction are still questionable and information about this is not made public. Usage information is not very accurate. Last column is the percentage imported by the US.

Türkiye has 70 of the 90 internationally traded minerals and already trading 60 of them

I think it is related to the scale of operations for one, if your industry is as big as China's serving the entire world you make a big environmental impact. If you are going with a relatively modest capacity your impact is more tolerable. Environmental impact is mostly measured by the carbon footprint, if you will be using electric power from renewable sources you can minimize the cost to the environment to possibly zero.

There are ups and downs to every decision you make and every path you take. The bottomline is you need to be profitable and also sustainable.

Speaking of large scale REE refining Minister Bayraktar said "We want to break the ground in 2026 and realize the project within 2 tears".

If this investment gets realized with national capabilities for the most part it will be a big deal.

So let me get this straight; the Dutch took over a Chinese owned company which 70% of its core production materialized in China with the hope that they‘d (Dutch, not Chinese) pass the US scrutiny just fine. And Dutch also hoped/believed that they’d continue to be the sole chip distributor with a ‘hijacked’ Chinese company in Europe?

Wow! How could anyone be so naive to think that Chinese are gullible and would sheepishly suck it up and stay put while Dutch dominate Europe with Chinese know how and production?

You have it precisely the other way around:

There is a reason Netherlands earns 60 billion USD from the world for IP it owns, and PRC earns about 10 billion:

Leveraging "packaging" (non IP intensive) side of things by equity and economy of scale is going to buy PRC only so much window of time on matters like this.

But it is writing on the window going forward (by actual IP surplus west) in treating PRC without kid gloves like the past anymore given:

a) the way "courts" are set up in PRC's Marxist-Leninist constitution to begin with when it comes to basic life and death criminal matters to begin with (before it has sound fair basis for things like civil and patent law).

b) The grand scale of IP theft, the US estimates about 200 - 600 billion stolen per year by PRC be it license violations, espionage, patent infringements etc.

c) Geopolitics + Xi factor

According to CNN, the Dutch government acted following pressure from Washington.
Wait, the dutch economy minister deny that this is relate to US before.
A preliminary court ruling released on Tuesday included minutes of a meeting from 12 June in which the US Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation told the Dutch foreign ministry: “The fact that the company’s CEO is still the same Chinese owner is problematic … It is almost certain that the CEO will have to be replaced.”
Karremans denied the move was coordinated with the US, saying he had already made the decision “in principle” at the time US concerns about Nexperia became clear, he said in an interview with Dutch TV program Buitenhof on Sunday.

So, it is a US long-arm jurisdiction, again.

Regarding the accusations made by the US against China, there is nothing worth commenting on. After all, many Americans believe that China poses a threat to the national security of the US. Time will prove everything.
