Arab regimes have republican/royal guards to protect them against a coup, Turkey opts to equip its gendarmerie and police with heavy weapons to counter a coup.

The first deliveries of the FAZ-2 version of the ATAK helicopter, equipped with laser warning receiver and other electronic warfare systems, and with an even higher rate of localization, were made to the General Directorate of Security and the Land Forces Command.

Because ideally the military live outside the cities police should have some firing power as a first responder to high profile criminal activity. Remember the times when terrorists fired rockets at Harbiye military guesthouse and Selimiye Barracks on separate occasions. Even higher profile activity can happen as foreign ships and planes pass through Turkish waters and airspace at peace time.

I fully agree with you. This is all part of a plan to have high tech defensive weapons in police hands to counteract an event like 15th July coup. Gendarmerie was taken out of Army control along these lines. nearly 200thousand police officers with 25000 special (swat) (PÖH) commando training is all part of this project.
Instead of making sure no US and no Feto infiltration occurs in to the forces‘ command structure, this is what they are doing.
To answer your question; If you are sending these specially trained forces to fight terrorism in the east then you will need heavy stuff like T129.

Turkish army’s main objective is “ to defend the country against threats from abroad and within ” So to prepare a police force like a professional army and arm it with modern heavy weapons is not giving a very good image for the dependability of the army. Moreover it is infringing in to it’s main objectives. Police should be confined to civilian duties.

Today 93% of Turkish population live in urban areas where police is responsible for security. Police is no different than the army. Both police and army is under the chain of command of the government. The military is not a separate entity than the government. Its role is to be the hands and arms of the elected government and not the other way around as it was in the past.

The gendarme (military police) is now part of the EGM (police force), was part of the army before.

So yes police force is responsible for fights (against terrorism) inside Turkey while army is responsible for fights outside Turkey.

So attack helicopters for police force is not so surprising, especially when counting that we have a terror problem since 40 years. Police force has also armed drones.

Turkish Police Gains Airborne Attack Capabilities

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) delivered the first T129B Assault and Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopter to the Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü - Havacılık Daire Başkanlığı (General Directorate of Security - Aviation Department).

The helicopter will be headquartered at Ankara Gölbasi (Ufuk Danismend Polis Heliportu), but because of their attack and reconnaissance capabilities, they are expected to be deployed to the eastern provinces of Turkey, near the Syrian and Iraqi borders. In 2017, the Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü ordered nine T129B helicopters of which two, serials EM-101 and EM-102, were reported so far.

It is estimated that the Türk Kara Havacilik Komutanlığı (Turkish Army Aviation Command) received 51 TAI T129s (nine Erken Duhul Helikopteri (EDH) or Early Delivery Helicopter variants and 42 T129A/B Phase 1 (FAZ-1) variants until now. The Türk Jandarma Havacılık Başkanlığı (Turkish Gendarmerie Aviation Directorate) has 18 T129s on order, of which six were delivered (all in the T129B FAZ-1 variant). The T129 FAZ-II variant is currently under development with TAI and will primarily be used by the Turkish Army Aviation Command.
