No brainier ! Electric! In theory yes,
How about when you need to fit it into a tank? Which would fit easier?
A hydraulic which needs a pump and hydraulic reserve + drivers or a simple electrical engine to drive the turret?

250 is the option,Quite:
Yaklaşık 700 milyon Euro'ya TCK'nın Leopar tankları yenilenecek.
Cumhurbaşkanlığı Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı (SSB) tarafından açılan ihale kapsamında 81 + 250 (Opsiyon) Leopard 2A4 tankı modernize edilecek.
Unquote.
According to Sozcu newspaper, 81+250 Leopard 2a4 tanks will be modernised for a price of 700million Euros. That makes 2.11 million Euro per tank.
That is cheap! When finished we will have a tank as good as Leo2a6+
Era armour, new tarret and front add on armour, ballistic protection cage for the back, Pulat active protection System, Laser warning system, SARP remote control gun, short distance surveillance system, driver view finder, audio warning system etc etc. Aselsan, Roketsan and BMC will be cooperating in the modernisation.
First turret drives were actually electric. But they were slow. Then hydraulic turret drives appeared which were much faster but very flammable (Sherman, Patton). Modern hydraulics are much less flammable but still better to have pure electric (which are now fast enough).I’m wishing electric suspension as with the Merkava 4. @500 Do you have comment on this?

If this is the case then it is outrageously expensive! Even with an Altay turret!250 is the option,
It is very lesslikely to include options in the price so the given contract value is for 81 units.
Which means ~$9 million per vehicle could be sign of installing the Altay turret as shown by BMC
In the last 11 years we saw many 3D animations, mock-ups, now a patch but not the qualified product.
Yeah, i forgot about Ethem Sancak.....WOW $700 million for 81 Tanks, i feel so sorry for ROKETSAN and the engineers, coming with such a good solution but "losing" to the most hilarious option.

I know the situation as like that:We could produce 81 medium weight new tanks with the latest technology and could upgrade Leo's with roketsans ERA.
What's wrong with Leo's current turret which is neat and tide? Why especially do they need ALTAY turret?
Are there sanctions on Caterpillar engines of KAPLAN MMWT? Why don't they go for MMWT until they are able to produce tank engine?
Crazy questions roaming in my head
Okay, if the problem were the upgrading armour, I'd say: Roketsan has already solved the armor problem then!I know the situation as like that:
Versions of Leopard 2 up to A4 have fixed armour which is very difficult to upgrade. Because of that Germans kept A5 versions but sold the previous versions as second hand. They’re upgrading A5’s to A6 and A7. The only A5 or newer variants outside are directly bought as first hand (i.e. Greece, Spain etc.).
I think this will clear the why.
I don't know about the source but it depends on how did they mention it.If this is the case then it is outrageously expensive! Even with an Altay turret!
The news was taken from Sozcu newspaper. It is literally copy pasted and is as is on my post. it says “81 + 250 (Opsiyon) “ .I don't know about the source but it depends on how did they mention it.
Did they mention +250 as "optional" or "second batch".
Like "upgrade will be done in two batches of 81 and 250 units,or
"upgrade of 81 will be done, 250 are optional"
Also it is very less likely for remaining leopards not to be upgrades. It matters how did they mention it but it really seems expensive for an upgrade.
Mk1 and Mk2 had hydraulic turret drive, Mk3 and Mk4 - electric.Thks
Do Merkava’s have electric suspension also?
I dont understand this figures. Can you explain this ?81+250 =331
700 ÷331 =2.110.000
roketsan armor +aselsan akkor and vs vs
He means 700 million euros for the complete modernisation project. 81 confirmed and 250 optional = 331 tanks in total makes 2.11 million euros each per tank.I dont understand this figures. Can you explain this ?
