DIMDEX 2024 Doha International Maritime Defense Fair, held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, opened its doors today.

Roketsan, which participated in the fair with its missile and ammunition solutions, exhibited the full-scale version of the LEVENT Close Air Defense Missile, which it continues to develop, for the first time.

LEVENT Missile, developed for close air defense of naval platforms against all kinds of air targets, especially anti-ship missiles, has a range of 11 kilometers and a weight of 70 kilograms. The 128mm diameter missile uses a dual-mode seeker head consisting of Passive RF and Imaging Infrared Seeker (IIR).

Developed based on the SUNGUR Portable Air Defense Missile, LEVENT will be guided by the temperature of the target with the IIR Seeker on the nose and by the RF waves broadcast from the target with the Passive RF antennas in the front of the nose.

This is a very important piece of hardware news.
Another US/Germany reliant weapon system bites the dust for Turkish Armed Forces.
There were rumours last year that our Ada class corvettes were sailing with some of their RAM canisters empty because US were refusing sale of replacement missiles.

That is however, one looong missile though. Hence 11km range. It would be interesting to know the maximum engagement altitude too.

It would be feasible to use these missile systems in tandem configuration like the German ships do, giving extensive front and rear defensive coverage.
With RF and IIR hybrid seeker head configuration, they will be extremely effective. It seems like we have remedied our initial lack of point defence deficiency on our ships with these missiles. TCG Anadolu can do with a pair of these systems to complement the twin Phalanx CIWS.

Wow, I think this is the first time we got confirmation of different length Midlas models. Turkish navy only operates tactical length Mk41s. And I'd think only larger Siper versions and Gezgin will use strike length, so it will be basically TF-2000 specific for now.

Do you mean tactical and strike version's weight?
Tactical and Strike versions are also called "Tactical Length" and "Strike Length" modules.

I'd think only larger Siper versions and Gezgin will use strike length, so it will be basically TF-2000 specific for now.

i think siper block 2 most likely will use tactical...But with booster(like SM-6/SM-3) will use strike

Will Levent Missile have Datalink capabilitiy apart from dual seeker ?
However the missile wouldnt need Datalink at very short range( rim-116 doesn't have Datalink)

Levent missile seems to be our first missile with 8 forward canards (Turkish Python 5) :devilish:

-more lift upfront

- easier to adjust the angle of attack - high pitch authority- in short most probably our most agile missile so far

-purely speculative but who knows we may be looking at a near future Air to Air missile design as well ???

But to be honest i don't like this without Datalink. Levent could engage just in Line of sight. I would prefer Bozdoğan missile rather than Levent. Levent is vulnerable sgainst anti-ship missiles that don't emit RF signals like NSM and SOM...
Bozdoğan could lock after launch and its initial path could be preset.

You were right if you could put the launcher on top of the ship. What if cruise missile attacked from nose of the ship?
There are blind gaps where launcher couldn't see.

You have fair point. I really wonder At which distance RIM-116 is launched? 11 km is maximum range, i think launch is at 5-6km?

Here comes my question: why navies spend 1 million on such missile while Turkish SUNGUR with IIR seeker could do same job. Just because Levent/RIM/116 has Electromagnetic wave seeker?
I think today Levent/ RIM116 overrated.

Do Greeks have NSM?

If we look at the Levent Missile carefully, the two sets of canards it has puts it in a different category of missile we have produced until today.
The front canards after swinging open are actually stationary and do not move. These are fixed while the second set can move to give directional control. Advantage of this set up is such that the first set of canards will generate highly energetic vortices which will increase the speed of the airflow over the second set of canards, thus making them more effective. Also the vortices will delay flow separation and allow the canards to reach higher angles of attack before stalling. This increased performance will give the missile much greater manoeuvrability, if compared to a missile with single canard control.

This is in the making of a highly manoeuvrable air to air missile. At 70kg weight it is a light and agile missile. Our Bozdogan, on the other hand, weighs 140 kg. It is a fully fledged WVR air to air missile that flies over 4 Mach speed. Yet, although Levent is designed primarily as a SAM for point defence duties, it is also most probably capable of seeing off many air platforms.
