It is said that there is issues with armor too, they might had went for modular armor to make up for it as much as possible

Roketsan has developed and produces armor.
A year ago BMC has told " we are reducing weight of Altay tank in considerable amount"
This is what they meant, by replacing cannon and armor.
IMO, that looks like a mock up which brought to fairs, and stickers on engine and the parts are made of paper stickers. I doubt if the engine is real and actually runs.
The visit is only intended to say "look we are working" and smells of too much preparation ,set up. not a surprise after state officials had backed the company up by saying approval of Germany is awaited a few days ago.

Note: I will take my words back if it is Leo upgrade, and also i would take my words back on Leo upgrade being awarded to BMC, since it only makes sense (if it is going to receive altay turret) to be upgraded by manufacturer of Altay.

Relax guys;)
The tank that have been presented is not Altay, but Turkish mod’ed Leopard 2 as driver sit on right side which is in center position in the case of Altay.

how much would they have to decrease the weight ? and why decrease the weight of a mbt. Designing a new tank would be better right.

altay was built around the mtu if I recall correctly

It seems chassis of Altay is heavily modified with new armors (front and skirt). The barrel is shorter than other Altay prototypes (shorter). The position of Akkor radar (the sight of angel) is different.

Perhaps a BMC comeback for the Leopard upgrade project? This way they can start Altay production while the engine issue still hasn't been solved.

That is not Altay, unless they changed the hull too and turned the whole tank into a monstrosity.

Compare driver hatches.

Maybe an experiment to put an downsized Altay Turret on a Leo2A4 Body.

Also going from L44 to L55 to "save" weight would be edging on treason.

Sorry to interrupt 😃 who would produce ALTAY's gun? Rheinmetall or MKE? If rheinmetall i'll ask another question;)

From comparing pictures, I strongly think this is an upgraded Leopard 2 turret+hull. It has elements of the Leopard 2NG and Altay with a revised modular armor package and Akkor APS.

they are in the process of modernising leo2a4 tanks. The so called Altay with L44 gun is actually a leo2a4 with an Altay turret. It seems that they are trying to use same sub systems for the tanks for ease of exchange of parts.
Although this seems to be in BMC premises, Aselsan is the company that is most involved in the modernisation of the leopard tanks.
Also as we can produce our own L55 gun, modernised leo2a4’s may end up with a L55 instead of their original L44. This would give them a great advantage at the battlefield, specifically it would put them on par with Greek Leo’s.
When asked about the new Era blocks and overall protection of the modernised tanks, the technical staff has said that in field tests they could see that the tank would survive any type of attack it may encounter in our southern borders.
