I think what Turkey is trying to do is the following.

1) Force Armenia to engage directly with Azerbaijan.
2) This will give Azerbaijan and Turkey an excuse to occupy Armenian territory
3) Capturing Karabagh and the southern part of Armenia will link the two Turkish countries directly with each other.
