"The hard-won lessons from (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine show that a military is only as strong as the industry behind it," said Defense Minister John Healey in a statement. "We are strengthening the United Kingdom's industrial base to better deter our adversaries and to keep the UK safe at home and strong abroad," Healey said.
The investments amounting to two billion dollars will be included in the Strategic Defence Review (SDR), a ten-year plan for military equipment and services. The SDR is scheduled to be published on Monday. In addition, up to 7,000 long-range weapons manufactured in Great Britain are to be procured, according to the Ministry of Defense. In total, the announced measures will create around 1,800 new jobs, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The additional investments mean that Great Britain will spend around eight billion dollars on ammunition during the current legislative period, according to the Ministry of Defense.
