All 48 Indonesian Kaans will be delivered in 120 months (June 2035) . Indonesia also has an option for +12 fighters. TAI plans to deliver the last fighter in 2034 before the official deadline. All Indonesian fighters will have a national turbofan engine and all the fighters will have block 30 configuration. This means the first Indonesian fighter will probably be delivered in 2032.

Project is worth 10-15 billion dollars, depending on various terms and options.

On a side note, not related to Indonesia, Turkish Air Force air maintenance factories under ASFAT will have a vast capability to maintain and upgrade KAAN.

With the advance payment to be made in 2032–33, an 84-month timeline will commence. The first aircraft delivery will take place 48 months after the advance payment (i.e., in 2036–37), and the final aircraft delivery will occur at the end of 84 months (i.e., in 2039–40). A similar delivery schedule will be applied for the additional 12 aircraft thereafter.

These are two very different timelines. That's because there is no official deal yet and because officials didn't disclose the actual details of the proposed deal to actual journalists who actually ask questions.

mTT's quote sounds like a more realistic time table to me, considering as there is no deal signed yet, why would the 120 months total start now? But again, we don't have the details. This is actively being moved forward as we speak.

A second contract has been signed.
  • It is mentioned that there are two companies that will collaborate with TAI. Are there any defense industry firms owned by the Indonesian government? If so, what are their names?
  • Are there any Turkish defense industry companies based in Indonesia?
  • What is the name of TAI’s company in Indonesia?

@Umigami @NEKO @norman88, could you please assist with the answers to these questions?

If the bottleneck is the availability of a Turkish engine and that sets the first delivery date of KAAN's export to 2036, then it's not good news for us either.

These delivery dates are for Indonesia

I know. I wrote "KAAN's export" explicitly.

KAAN being a true 5th gen is contingent on the Turkish engine. If the engine is not ready for Indonesians by that date, it won't be ready for us either.

Actually, the situation with the engine is different. The Turkish engine is targeted to be ready by 2030, and work is progressing accordingly. The delivery schedule (starting from 2036–37) is determined solely based on the contract structure and production planning with Indonesia. So, it does not mean that the engine won’t be ready by that time.

What does ready mean in this context? is it the first firing of the engine? is it the first flight? is it the LRIP? or is it the serial production?

Do you actually have this information, or is it speculation?

we're going in circles. That post simply says the first delivery will begin in 11-12 years. It does not provide any rationale for the seemingly late deliveries. That was the origin of my speculation in the first place.

TAI has branch office for airframe designing in Bandung.
That's as far as I know.

Well our deliveries take priority, if planned rate is 24 per year ( and not immediately, so it will ramp up slowly) then 3-4 years only deliveries to TurAF

Tolga Özbek reported a timeline similar to mine.

What I heard is that TAI will deliver the first fighter in the 84th month and will deliver all 48 fighters before the 120th month (48 fighter in 36 months, TAI wants to complete deliveries ahead of schedule before the 120th month) . Indonesia will also make the first payment in the 84th month. Indonesia will get Block 30 configuration with national engines. None of this is confirmed on my side.

TurAF will get block 10 starting from 2028-2029, block 20 production will start in 2030, and block 30 in 2032. Main difference between block 10 and 20 is the software there might be some smaller component upgrades but nothing big like a subsystem change. This will be a sizeable software upgrade, which will enable advanced MUM-T, more weapons, and advanced sensor fusion capabilities. Block 10 will come with a baseline sensor fusion and MUM-T capability. All existing Block 10 aircraft can and will be upgraded to Block 20 with this software upgrade. Block 30 is a sizeable upgrade that will introduce a national engine, better RAM coating, some kind of laser weapon.

Of course, it's not quite a Kaan, but let me share an export news of my own. As of now, we at @Blitzteknoloji have exported our indigenously developed gimbal systems to yet another country.

With this latest development, two of the G7 countries have now chosen Turkish-made gimbals for their armed forces, and soon this number will rise to three.

God willing, our goal is to have our products in use somewhere in the world at every moment. That goal is no longer far away!
