Does it means, their laser has much more power than ours?
Since laser weapons do not work like those in science fiction games/movies, they need time on their target to burn it. More powerful your laser, less time it needs on target AND higher temperatures it can reach, which means it can be more effective against the same target OR it could be effective against a target it might not have been otherwise. And, higher power means your laser can reach farther out, so it increases your range.

Also, I don't think the increase is linear, so, having 5x more power could result in a far more powerful laser than just 5x. So yeah, that laser is quite bit more powerful and better than ours if it is working as declared.

Thanks for explanation, but the question was more sarcastic meant.

TUBITAK has described the product as follows: It can generate 100 kW of power if desired, presumably with a more advanced power/source/cooling system.

Quote:
Scalable Technology Leading the Future

Thanks to its modular architecture, the IŞIK system is designed to be scalable to power levels of 100 kW and above. This feature not only meets today's needs but also makes it a deterrent and effective force for the development of laser-based defense technologies in the future.

Looks like bs,if they could they would have done it already.

The system comes in 5 KW increments and you can add more to scale up. But why jump while you can walk. If the system can do a job with smaller power by utilizing precision targeting then you can get away with a system that does not use too much power and much supporting systems for the high power.

Because the less power you have, the less range you have which gives you less time to down your target, as the laser has to stay on target to set it on fire in the first place. If you can engage targets from 5km, you will have a better chance of destroying it before it destroys something important. And, range also improves your chances of dealing with one target and switching to another, which matters a lot, just look at Russia launching dozens of cheap drones with each of their missiles now.

And on top of that, less power you have, the more time you need to destroy your target, because again, laser has to stay on target until it gets damaged by the heat it creates; which becomes a problem when you already have shortened time window if you have a less powerful laser. Which circles back to chances of destroying or being destroyed and ability to switch to next target as fast as possible.

And, with a less powerful laser, the temperature you can reach also drops, which means effectiveness of the laser against targets made from different material might be lower. So, you might (again) need more time, or might not even be able to damage it in time. Hence, why having a more powerful laser, if you can indeed have it, is much better than just sitting on your arse with a less powerful one.

Not to mention, all laser systems has to be incredibly precise, they have to be able to stay on targets that are traveling at hundreds of kms, how much more precise do you think they can get?

The Turkish armed forces are currently relieved to have the Korkut air defence system at their disposal, but if sufficient investment in laser technology is not made available in a timely manner, its development may slow or even cease.

Therefore, developed systems must be added to the inventory, field-tested, and feedback must be provided, leading to further development.

A system effective against drones at 2 km must also be developed to be effective against missiles at 10 km...

The Armol 20kW (TUBITAK), Nazar 10kW (METEKSAN), and Alka 5/20/50kW (ROKETSAN) laser weapons have entered the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory. There is no news yet regarding Işık 20kW (TUBITAK), Gökberk 5kW (ASELSAN) because of they are newly developed.

The systems are planned to be primarily effective against drones, but the only hint of a high-power laser system against missiles and aircraft is the TUBITAK Işık project. It appears that progress is being made gradually toward that goal.

The Turkish military has focused primarily on high-altitude missile destruction, as we have been lacking in this area for decades. However, it's time to focus on current and future technologies as well. The Iran/Israel theater advises us to invest in this area!
