Since 2013How deep the country has fallen. It saddens me.
RTÜK is nothing but a cencorship organ of the goverment, it should be one of the first things to get closed after the election.Meanwhile, the Censorship Authority is sending out warning to the news outlets to only report in a "sensible" way
Interesting article, it is obvious that some more effective tools and strategy should be adopted instead of usual ranting about airplanes as ultimate solution. Drones should be evaluated, potentialy cheaper and more precise, also it can detect better on which points water should be droped, i am sure somene will make various calculus and technical study for various scenarios.
it's not wishful thinking at all. We don't need IR cameras to spot fires at night. Look up Gorgon Stare, with such a system very large swaths of areas can be covered by drones.Give the forest authorities drones with enough coverage with bombs with fire retardants, so they can stop early fires. Wishful thinking but maybe in the future satellites and drones can make an impact.

In 2021 more hectares burnt in Turkey than in total 2007-2019 period. They say around 120.000 hectares burnt this year alone.
It is an extraordinary situation which has to be analyzed carefully in every direction (arson, equipment etc).
Apart from 2021 Turkey is a leader in fire-prevention in Mediterenean region.
If bad AKP-Erdogan is responsible for 2021 then thank you Erdogan for preventing fire misery in all those other years like in the other Mediterenean countries.
Other countries have witnessed much severe fires in more recurring periods than what Turkey has witnessed in 2021.
State proved to be brain dead and corrupt once again. Very nice to see some biggest municipalities to come together and fill the gap and show the whole country how state should act. Whatever the cause, pkk, afghans, kids, corruption or climate change, it does not change the fact that state should be prepared and fightback.THK statement from İmamoğlu: We present the official application today
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "We have conveyed that there is a demand from our municipalities for the modification, repair, maintenance and repair of your existing aircraft, even expanding the fleet and even getting service from this fleet. We also prepare and submit our official application today, and we are starting the process today in order to initiate negotiations with the signature of 11 metropolitan municipalities.

İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu met with the representatives of the Istanbul Chamber of Minibuses and the district minibuses' chambers at the Istanbul Planning Agency in Florya. Minibuses and minibuses representatives thanked Ekrem İmamoğlu after the decision to convert minibuses and minibuses into taxis. Ekrem İmamoğlu made a speech to the representatives and pointed out that the number of taxis was insufficient. İmamoğlu said, "Let's show one example and tell the citizen what to do. My child waited for a taxi for exactly 1 hour and 20 minutes in a place like Beylikdüzü, and also in Yakuplu. 1 hour and 20 minutes in front of the site in Yakuplu. My 16-year-old son called me on the phone. I mean, it's not Şişli, it's not the center, there's always a taxi at the bus stop, right?
'TODAY WE WOULD NOT LIVE THE SITUATION WE ARE IN'
Imamoglu then answered journalists' questions about the agenda. Ekrem İmamoğlu made the following assessments when asked if 11 municipalities would aspire to the Turkish Aeronautical Association's (THK) fire planes:
We will share this process with them and our presidents there. If THK was good, if it had dozens of planes in its hangars, if we had reconnaissance planes in the hot period that should be followed from time to time with reconnaissance planes, if we had planes that intervened there, wouldn't there be a fire? It happens every year, but we wouldn't be in the situation we're in today. In that respect, we are determined, we will make our application today."
'WE WILL BE IN SOLIDARITY'
What we call climate change should turn into a human duty. It does not have Istanbul, Turkey, Croatia or Bulgaria. It is the common struggle of the whole world," he said.
'WE WILL ESTABLISH A SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMMITTEE QUICKLY'
Imamoglu said, "Of course, our only goal right now is to put out the fire, but we are prepared at all these points, to heal the wounds as soon as it is over, and to eliminate the failing parts of the urban services there. We will establish a Science and Technical Board quickly. Next, we will establish a strict Science and Technical Committee to guide municipalities and call institutions, a Science and Technical Committee that defines the fight against global warming and forests against fire. We will follow up on how to treat and repair in the fastest way.In order not to allow a single square meter to be built, a strict follow-up will be made through our municipalities, especially through our Muğla and Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and our mayors," he said.

Interesting and why not the Provinces should be stake holders in THK, a semi public/privat partnership with many asking questions. Should work well.
Kindly compare the ratio of burnt areas to total forest areas.Burnt area (hectares)
