"Turkey had backed away from purchasing the F-16s and relayed this to US officials. Key members of Congress pushed back, telling they saw Turkey’s acquisition as a confidence-building step, my sources on the Hill said. From Trump’s remarks, it appears he will press Ankara to proceed with the deal — and Ankara has complied."

I expect a possible addition of the KC-46 to this list.

To sweeten the deal, there might be promises of Türkiye returning to industrial participation in the future TBD.

Contrary to others I do not think we are going to forego the purchase of the Eurofighter.

Because 1. I think it would do serious damage to the relations we have built with the Brits over the last few years especially after they put so much work into convincing Germany 2. Airbus might get slighted by this and it could have negative ripple effects on other projects also 3. I think the Air Force really wants a non-American Fighter in its inventory.

The KC-46 is a very problematic aircraft, I'd rather go for the Airbus MRTT or build custom ones with Airbus as JV with TAI.

It wasn't. It was designed for Harriers. It needs large modifications on its flight deck to be able to handle F-35B operations.
I came across an article in a Russian military publication that mentions the Harrier. It says Indonesia has decided to purchase the aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi from Italy, but without the Harriers. Helicopters and Turkish TB3 UAVs will be carried on deck. The article is short, and some of the comments are quite interesting. Given the difficulty accessing it due to the Russian language, I'll leave it here.

Equally interesting to me was the information in the comments about two Mistral-class landing ships being built by the Russians in Kerch, Crimea. They've been under construction for so long that I'd even forgotten about them. It's unclear which of the four navies they're building them for.

I think "being built" is a rather generous term for those two. I don't think they went more than keel laying. They aren't building anything by themselves and DCNS cooperation ended a decade ago.

Under the deal, 2 would be built in France and other 2 would be built in Russia with French support.

After the unsuccessful five-day war in South Ossetia (Georgia), the Russians apparently decided that attacking Georgia via the Black Sea would be much easier than transporting troops through the Caucasus passes. Therefore, they ordered two Mistral-class landing ships from France for $1.2 billion. The contract allegedly included the transfer of French technology for localization. When the ships were ready (2015), due to US objections related to the annexation of Crimea, Paris was forced to refuse the Russian order, remove the Russian crew from the ships, and refund the money. The Russians decided to build these helicopter carriers themselves. They are building them in Ukrainian Crimea. After the sinking of the cruiser Moskva, the Ukrainians announced that they would sink the ships any day now, but are waiting for the Russians to complete their construction.

Barrack, the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, who attended the meeting between President Erdoğan and U.S. President Trump, joined CNN TÜRK live broadcast after the meeting. Barrack said, "The meeting was epic, in one word. There will be movement in the integration of the SDF. I said the F-35 issue would be resolved by the end of the year. I won't be wrong."

Tom Barrack's statements were as follows:

"There are important issues, and the whole world is trying to find its way right now. It's very important to speak with both sides on such critical matters, and we are proud of all the parties involved here."

Yunus Paksoy: "I asked the president two questions—one about the F-35s and one about Syria. Do you have any predictions you can share with us regarding potential developments in the near future? They have just emerged from a historic civil war—how long will this transformation process take?"

"Turkey is very persistent and enthusiastic about looking to the future. President Trump also mentioned this. Turkey has a very big role here. The fact that President Trump was convinced to lift sanctions on the Sara regime was a big deal. They received a lot of help here. Turkey played a major role. We will see baby steps; we want to move faster. They need a constitution, they need resources. They need to get rid of the YPG. The rights of Christians there must be protected. They're trying to do everything at once, but today, one of the most important points is the significance of Syria for both countries. We want the Assad regime to listen to its neighbors. I think everyone is on the right path."

Yunus Paksoy: "In June, you said the F-35 issue could be resolved by the end of the year. Foreign ministers had said they could make this happen. Is this the direction things are heading?"

"I’ll leave the answer to that question to others, but I wouldn’t say you're very wrong. You'll hear news from this meeting very soon."

Arab countries have turned their backs on Putin

«The Russian-Arab summit scheduled for October 15 in Moscow will not take place. Vladimir Putin's meeting with the leaders of the League of Arab States (LAS) was canceled after key participants canceled their visit to Russia.
In mid-October, the Kremlin was preparing to become the stage for a grand spectacle entitled "Russia and the Arab World: A New Axis." But when the curtain rose, it became clear that there was practically no one to take the stage.
The main actors—the emirs and kings for whose benefit this spectacle was staged—politely referred to events dictated by Washington. As a result, the grand summit, intended to demonstrate the breadth of Russian influence to Donald Trump, turned into a rehearsal with a single lead actor.
They preferred not to risk their seats in Trump's box to participate as extras in Putin's performance. Arab leaders are well aware of where the "pie table" is. And in October 2025, they made their choice: better to be Trump's junior partners than co-authors of Putin's geopolitical phantasmagorias with unclear benefits but obvious risks.»
