The deal to acquire 24 or so was signed in 2020 or so iirc.
Deliveries commenced last year....all 24 are planned to be delivered by 2025.

For amusement sake as well as give Chinese navy a bit of lesson in naval warfare…….. Can anybody build a scenario in which a large Chinese naval fleet with an aircraft carrier and a submarines and 5 support ship come to the Indian Ocean and picks up a fight with waiting Indian Navy at the Western mouth of Straits of Malacca. That scenario in fact could be real as Chinese do want to test their naval prowess…….. anybody Please build this scenario.

Chinese won’t come alone for sure. They will plan to coordinate with Pakistan navy for sure. Entire Indian Navy couldn’t meet portion of Navy here.
Our Eastern and Tri Service command should be tasked for this role. After 1971, the eastern side importance have gotten less. Western Command gets all the best goodies. Southern command is ok.
Chinese won’t venture yet till they invade Taiwan. Their Navy is being expanded exactly for this purpose. They might try something in Northern Borders. Our govt “acted “ as though they are serious about improving air power, begging Russia for emergency weapons and aircraft’s in 2020. 3 years gone and they have forgotten about it and not an single new order has been placed with 21 Migs/12 Su or 114 MRFA. Hell even Tejas Mk2 is delayed to 2025 now

The most important thing not mentioned here are the undersea hydrophone arrays. The 'Fish Hook' IUSS/SOSUS line that extends from Japan, coming through the First Island Chain, South-East Asia and landfall on Andaman islands. And if you read between the lines of this video below, India has fully integrated the IUSS inputs into our kill chain:
There is also talk that the IUSS network could be extended till Mainland India (somewhere in TN), essentially placing a tripwire over any Chinese SSN that seeks to cross into the IOR, and then another tripwire for those seeking to cross into the Bay of Bengal (where our INS Varsha submarine pens would be located).
