The United States has announced a naval blockade of Iran.
The United States is beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social.
"Starting immediately, the United States Navy, the finest in the world, will begin the process of BLOCKADE of any vessel attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz," the White House tweeted.
The US President confirmed that negotiators in Islamabad had failed to reach an agreement: "The meeting went well, most issues were agreed upon. But one, the most important issue, the nuclear issue, remains unresolved," the US President stated.
According to him, Iran's placement of naval mines in the Strait and its unwillingness to clear them constitute blackmail that the US will not tolerate.
"The blockade will begin soon. Other countries will join." "Iran will not be allowed to profit from extortion," Trump declared, reiterating that the US had begun clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz.
"They (Iran) want money, and more importantly, they want nuclear weapons. Furthermore, when the time comes, we will be fully prepared to fight, and our military will finish off what little remains of Iran!" the US President tweeted.
Trump also announced that the US Navy would begin destroying mines laid by Iran in the strait. "Any Iranian who fires on us or on civilian vessels will be destroyed!" writes the Azerbaijani newspaper Haqqin az.
