What is the range of the SOM J? Given that other cruise missiles in the same class as the TAURUS, Joint Strike Missile (JSM) and the SCALP EG/Storm Shadow have a range of at least 500+ km.

The range depends on the flight profile, if it goes fly low then they will never go 500km. I think they a misguiding with this, SOM missile have 250km+ range.

Firstly som j and JSM are not in the same class as Taurus and scalp. Som j and JSM both weigh less than 600kg and Taurus an Scalp weigh more than a ton they also are faster and are better against mobile targets.

if they use KTJ-3700 which is almost ready for Atmaca land version, it can reach up to 400km. KTJ-3700 is almost the same size as the currently used KTJ-3200, so I'd be surprised if they dont go this way. SOM-J should rather have 500km range to be a strategic weapon.

As far as is known, the SOM family is currently being further developed to achieve greater ranges – presumably using the KTJ-3700 engine or a specially optimised variant as the SOM M cruise missile, which is designed to fit into the TAI KAAN’s internal weapons bay.

SOM M

In parallel, it is likely that the SOM-J is being specifically developed to offer a flexible, cross-platform stand-off solution, including for export. Whilst it was originally designed for internal integration into the F-35, its design also makes it suitable for other carrier platforms such as the F-16, Hürjet and Eurofighter, as well as modern unmanned systems such as the Bayraktar Kızılelma, TAI Anka-3 and Bayraktar Akinci.

Storm shadow and Som has the same purpose but are not really in the same class. Storm shadow weighs 1300kg whereas som J is merely 530kg. Of course I would want Som to reach those ranges but I don't know how feasible it is with this much of a weight difference

Storm Shadow cannot be carried in the internal bay of the fighter jet. A radar like ERIS will detect the plane from a long distance. Even the missile itself is easier to detect than SOM-J, which is small, stealth, but still powerful enough. The idea is to carry it with a stealth drone like Anka-3 and fire it from about 300km, which is the range it is being improved. SOM-J is not to underestimate, it is a sleek, smooth „operator“.
