Thank you for your reply, coming to a shipyard to build these frigates, what are the Possible contenders from your POV? Sefine Shipyard?
That I do not know, we have many shipyards and it depends on tender outcome. I personally regard the chance for TAIS high (TAIS is a consortium of 4 shipyards)

Impossible. It will sail this year possibly in next two months after being re-docked for last inspection (should be in dry dock nowadays, or to be) and completion of the harbour acceptance test procedures.

The first hull of a submarine class always goes for more extensive test than the rest, including the depth test and since the structure has been modified these tests will be re-done for 214TN. So, be ready for a long session of sea trials, possibly revisits at the Golcuk shipyard for several times or being dry docked again for inspection after the sea trials. People will be rumouring there are issues about the submarine without knowing the background.

Generally speaking the first hull of every class is the problematic one. When it is a submarine then it is ten fold.

Second, third and four hulls progresses well, the construction continues in the hangar and we can't have an idea about the progress unless someone pays a visit and cameramen allowed to take pictures. Second hull should be about to be taken out from the hangar to the dry dock, then to the equipping berth like the first one in near future, this was going to happen again by May but possibly the Dry dock will be occupied and will be delayed to June.

3rd, 4th progresses faster than progress faster than first two hulls, as casually expected. There are no issues on 5th and 6th one.
Told about 2nd hull nearly 45 days ago. The exact date wasn't known till the first week of the May :)

Reis class submarine Delivery Dates:

Piri Reis - 2022
Kadir Reis – 2023
Murat Reis – 2024
Aydin Reis – 2025 - Construction of first Milden submarine
Seydi Ali Reis – 2026
Salman Reis – 2027
Piri Reis was expected in 4th week of November- 2nd week of December. Delay of 1 month lands it in January :) Thus the swinging between 2022-2023 is occurring. I personally expect it to be delivered before February including any possible foreseeable delays.

A New Threshold in REIS Class Type 214TN Submarine Project

One of the interesting scenes in the short video shared by the MSB on the occasion of the AKYA National Heavy Torpedo Shooting in March 2022 was the sighting of the first submarine of the REIS Class, TCG Pirireis (S-330), during maintenance in the floating dock. Work on the PiriReis Submarine, which was taken from the construction hall to the floating dock in December 2019 and launched from the floating dock on March 22, 2021, had not yet been completed as of March 21, 2022. However, in order for PiriReis to be delivered in 2022, the Marine Acceptance Tests (SAT) had to be started. The construction, equipment, FAT, HAT and SAT activities of each REIS Class Submarine take a total of 62 months. Following the completion of the equipment activities of the PiriReis Submarine, it was planned to undergo Factory Acceptance (FAT), Port Acceptance (HAT) and Sea Acceptance (SAT) Tests, respectively. Previously, a 9-month calendar for HAT activities and 11 months for SAT activities was announced. The delay became official with the information shared on the official website of DzKK and it was stated that the first submarine would be delivered in 2023, not in 2022 as planned. The following information about the project was shared on the DzKK website: “The construction of the first ship, PİRİREİS Submarine, started on September 28, 2015. Construction activities for the submarines continue and they are planned to enter service after 2023, respectively. REIS Class Submarines will be the first submarines of the Turkish Naval Forces with an air independent propulsion (AIP) system.”

If so, then why did Erdo state that they will complete the submarine in 5 to 6 months?

Germany eased its stance now the first REIS class will be delivered this year but the trust in Germans is vanished and SSB started the nationalization of the whole propulsion package fuel cells, main electric motors, and batteries. This is a clear answer to Germans. Sonar development has been going on for a time. Nobody trusts Germans there is frustration in the upper echelon.

Honestly this should have been the case ever since they embargoes the engine for Altay

Erdo, the govt, TSK should learn to never trust the germans at all
The moment you put all of your trus on the germans, they will screw you up

I don't understand Aselsan sometime, why have they designed the ammo chute in a way that it exposes the ammo? Wouldn't it be better if they flipped the cannon so the ammo intake is downward facing, thus routing the ammo chute internally.

BAE Mk-38 as an example, nice and clean design.

What a mess. Erdogan, he is happy with 6 submarines in 6 years. Thats to slow.

War is coming and we are like Nazi Germany; slow production, slow R&D and to much time wasting in quality instead of quantity.

We need more, more, more submarines, cruisers, fregates, corvettes etc.

Production is going to slow. We have 20 million unemployed people. Put them at work in the shipyards. Good for production & economy.

Not 6 years.. that procurement will be completed after 20 years! of journey. Decision making is also a big problem, and may be corruption as well apart from silent embargoes.

You don't count STM500 as a submarine?

Two new surface platforms are under-review for the Turkish Navy. SSB-TN is going to set a decision by end of May - midst of the June for one of them. The latter one will be settled by the end of the year (2022) and funds will be granted for the design studies.

TTHB's final design will be decided in June. SSB-TN is jointly assessing two alternative conceptual designs.

Stuck in the middle with the two! I would love to hear your opinion on Navy’s possible choice, whether or not decision makers are set to go for the new and unusual!

I don't imagine it will be delivered until the war ends. That's assuming that Ukraine even keeps a coast post-war. Any ship in the north Black Sea is a sitting duck, no point in wasting a brand new vessel for nothing.
Hell no! Look around you, everyone is so sure Ukraine will be the victorious, against all odds!
