As expected
CHP is ensuring that they govern their municipalities well during the next 4 years. If they perform well during the next 4 years, then we may officially enter into a CHP-era and the AKP will eternally be buried
A good move nonetheless

CHP decided to establish an inspection board consisting of retired Court of Accounts auditors and inspect the party municipalities every 3 months
Turkey is not a federation but a Centralized State.

Ankara had much more power.

That is not a big problem for Opposition parties take the local government in other centralized states such as Japan korea or France ,Uk

Perhaps the military-industrial complex should take the reins and determine Turkey's policy. This has been going on in the USA for almost 100 years, regardless of whether Republicans or Democrats are in power, the arms industry always wins and so does the USA.

CHP's Ozgur Ozel: "The disgrace of giving the certificate of election to the second runner-up is to disregard the will of the people of Van and to ambush them."

Who is the elected terrorist in Van?

Meet Abdullah Zeydan.

"If PKK decides, they can drown you in their spit"

There is no other country in the world where terrorists can be elected as mayors.

Whatever... 106th Anniversary of the Liberation of Van was celebrated. Terrorists and their supporters can cry as much as they want. The only language you understand is the language of lead. I hope the day where Van is liberated from you is soon.

I've heard this argument a lot that "9% decrease in voter turnout from 2023 is all akp voters". If you add YRP, BBP, Hudapar to MHP and AKP votes, you get like 47.7%. If all or majority of 9% decrease in turnout was due to AKP voters this would mean that Cumhur have actually added to their base to the tune of 3%. This is obviously comical.

Big numbers of opposition voters lost all hope after 2023 election; a lot of my friends stopped following politics completely, unsubscribing from news accounts on social media and stuff. A lot of them who are all opposition voters didn't vote and couldn't care less about local elections.

Anger doesn't result in inaction; apathy does. Angry AKP voter would most likely show this by voting for another party, mostly YRP. Apathetic opposition voters stayed home. The increase in CHP share of votes comes from mostly IYIP (lost 6%), and partially from others like DEM (lost 4%), IP (lost 1.5%) MHP (lost 5%), and presumably some from AKP. The opposition vote in the 2023 parliamentary election was 49.5%. This time it is 51%. That's a 1.5% increase, so most of CHP votes comes from reshuffling of votes from smaller parties to CHP.

As I've said time and time again the regular opposition person in our country is just opposed to AKP; that makes them a single issue voter: their issue is opposition to AKP. If you drag stuff around and get muddled into ideological battles you tend to lose votes, even if you're a Kurdish nationalist party. The results of this election and the perception which it creates for CHP will accelerate this trend and exodus from smaller parties will increase.

You can disregard mass trends, likes, attitudes and approaches you see on the internet and social media. They do not represent a random sample; they are overwhelmingly young isolated males and this demographic circle jerk and algorithmic reinforecment creates this unified outlook. To my estimate it is 5% of the electorate, and their turnout seems to be much lower than average.

It seems that the government is determined not to manage democratic processes in a chivalrous manner. In our Gaziosmanpaşa district, where the CHP won the election, it was decided to recount all the votes with pressure. In our Ümraniye district, where we made the same request, our request was rejected. For Pendik, Fatih, Arnavutköy and Bahçelievler districts, our requests have not yet been decided. When the AK Party wins the district, it is neither democracy nor chivalry to say reject the recount of votes, and when the CHP wins, to say let's count again. We want the Provincial Election Board and the YSK not to be a spectator to all this.

Özgür Özel, proudly -and with very big steps- following the mistakes of K.K. with these kinds of statements.

the entire political spectrum is compromised, dont expect anything good to come from CHP either. Both will pursue marxist ideals, one comes at you with an islamist face, the other with a secular face, both right now are as bad as each other. Both enemies of the republic, both enemies of Ataturk and the patriots.

expect the pkk/kurdistan agenda to constantly to be elevated and promoted within the nation, just like it was for the past 20 years. Dont expect anything to happen to the massive influx of illegals.

we will continue down the same path, only the outfit will look different.

Thats true, however with Pro-PKK/DEM statements CHP only makes their voters more radicalised, these kind of statements were the reason why Millet lost in 2023 and will be the reason in 2028 if Cumhur puts up a competent runner against İmamoğlu-Özel. Yavaş would be a safer approach but he would NOT be selected by Millet as he has a nationalistic background

Just saying, if İmamoğlu or Özel gains power in 2028, I dont see a better future for Turkey, we would be back to 2000s again, probably doing same mistakes again...

I dont want to see a 2000-2013 rewind, please!

The day when the CHP acts like a proper party and stop blindly and publicly supporting terrorists, that same day will be the day when a new era of CHP-led era will begin in Turkey

This is about the legal aspect, the law.

AKP is showing you all that they don't care if a terrorist or not runs, they only care how they can spin it to their advantage. If this goes ahead, the AKP will do this again, maybe even in the west. AKP doesn't care about laws or terrorism.

Also given the loss this election they need money. They will take it where they can get it. They are even forcing recounts in CHP areas.

That doesnt ligitimise CHP's actions regarding the blatant support that they are giving to someone who actually insulted the Turkish nation..... The CHP isnt any party but the party that Ataturk founded and the same guy who founded the Turkish nation. The mayor of Van literally insulted the nation itself yet the party that is supposed to protect it are supporting them instead.... oh the irony

Moreover, why are you worried about a recount? If the CHP didnt cheat, then they will win these areas again and again just like with Istanbul in 2019. Let the AKP recount the votes, since as long as there is no irregularity, the CHP will still win.... period

The man went to prison, then came out, it was legal for him to be a candidate. If he is a terrorist he should be in jail. But according to the AKP, everything was fine until they lost the election.

The CHP are right to hold AKP to account for any inconsistencies in the application of the law, otherwise that is how you get corruption and the institutions of the country break down. Also this is just destroying the state's legitimacy and trust in institutions in the south east.

AKP rejected recount applications from CHP and DEM, that's not exactly fair, is it ?

AKP is abusing the law and courts for its own benefit, nothing new

If these people are really terrorists then you won't even give them the permission to run for mayors in the first place... Otherwise you only look like a bunch of sore losers who disrespect the choice of the people and nothing else. What was the point to even have elections in Kurdish majority places when you will in the end put your guy as a mayor anyway.

They obviously do that so they can take over after the election; if they don't allow them to run in the first place, opposition may take the municipality and you don't have the same excuses against them.
