So how do you plan to test the AESA radar that will be integrated into KIZILELMA? What, just because you didn't want it, should KIZILELMA be thrown away?
Our F16s have the priority first AESA radar was made for the ÖZGÜR project in mind and other platforms later If you are happy that your air force lacking AESA capabilities while everyone in the region has one nice mindset.

Enough with this cheap baykar bullshit just send this radar to 401st TEST FLEET.

Correct me if i’m wrong but , since F16 Özgür planes aren’t delivered and are still ongoing development with prototypes, and radars I think depend on the mission computer to function, wouldn’t it be easier to test it with a system software and computers of which are ours, and with a system that’s otherwise matured and in service?

I mean can the radar be integrated to other block 30 aircraft without modernization and older foreign computers etc?

AFAIK All other components of Özgür modernization other than the MURAD radar is complete.
wouldn’t it be easier to test it with a system software and computers of which are ours, and with a system that’s otherwise matured and in service?
That's why we use Akıncı.

First step of özgür project is to extend life of the F16s,we have not got any news about it after the 8th plane,so I believe there is something inferior to the project.

According to the information obtained by Defense Turk, studies are continuing to use local GaN modules in the MURAD AESA nose radar developed for the F-16 fighter aircraft and AKINCI TİHA. In this context, the first domestic modules are planned to be used in 2024.

Domestic modules are produced within AB Mikronano, which is the first chip factory in Turkey, established in partnership with Aselsan and Bilkent University.

Now they are stating that it will be 2024 before GaN modules are used on Murad radar.
That means that this radar is not ready.
It needs clarification.

Yusuf Akbaba stated that radar was tested on Akıncı and some mods were done, tests continue

As far as I understand, the GaN modules of the currently tested radar are outsourced, but from 2024, there will be production with GaN chips produced with AB-micronano.

So this is not really an indigenous radar. Also does it mean that they will redo the tests when using own GaN modules ? Seems like there is still a long way before MURAD becomes fully indigenous.

No, it's not completely outsourced. The design and IP rights belong to Aselsan, but the chip production didn't take place in Turkey. The chips themselves will now be produced domestically.

Adding: We started using our own GaN chips in our EIRS long range radar. So we have a qualified product. If there will be a new test campaign, I don't think it will last long.

No. It will be able to intercept medium-range ballistic missiles in 2028 and space-based sensors will complement it by 2030 for the interception of longer-range missiles. 2028 will be the year we gain exoatmospheric interception capability.


Anti-ballistic capabilities will be gained in 2026. Before that, there will be limited capability mostly against tactical ballistic missiles.

These 3 development projects will ensure robust anti-ballistic interception capability by 2026.

Serial production is outsourced to a semiconductor company. It might be TSMC or a Malaysian company I don't know, but only the chips are produced that way. Later chips are delivered to Türkiye and T/R modules are produced from them in Aselsan. Every building block has 16 GaN T/R modules and Murad has 64 building blocks for a total of 1024 T/R modules.

AB Mikronano started delivering serial-produced national S-band GaN chips by the end of last year and the company is scaling up production. Serial production X-band chips will be delivered in Q4 this year at the earliest. Price of the local production will be higher than outsourcing for some time because of economies of scale but our companies are willing to take that hit.

It will be most likely something similar to Pac-3MSE or Aster Block 1NT.

I initially wrote a long write-up on which fabs are capable of fabricating GaN MMICs that are identical to AB Mikro Nano's latest process by looking through open source information. I have a good idea which fab manufactured these first round of MMICs, but I won't share it here as it could be used against us by our "allies" if the info is so easily out there (just picturing Sen. Blob Menengitis on the shitter scrolling through this thread). What I will say is that it's definitely not TSMC or SilTerra, as neither specialize in this tech. It's great ASELSAN was able to source this tech while AB Mikro Nano refined their process. This is cutting edge stuff.

This video explains the importance of it the best. The silicon chips heat up and breaks down with high power radar chips but with this technology Turkey is the 4th country(8years ago)

The first of Turkey's long-range Early Warning Radar System (EIRS) has been deployed to Adana!

The EIRS system, an AESA radar developed by ASELSAN, will replace the TRS-22XX radars produced in Turkey with the French Thales license. In this context, according to the information obtained by Defense Turk, it completed the first EIRS factory acceptance tests and replaced a TRS-XX22 radar stationed in Adana with temporary acceptance.

EIRS, a new generation S-Band radar developed for long-range early warning purposes, with antenna architecture in AESA and digital beamforming infrastructure, is planned to have a target detection range of 470+ km and to be used at a range of up to 600+ km in various situations. EIRS, which will also be used in roles such as detection and tracking of ballistic missiles, will also play a critical role in the detection of targets with low radar cross-sectional area.

Speaking at the 4th Military Radar and Border Security summit, ASELSAN Deputy General Manager Dr. Mustafa Akkul also stated that the number of portable EIRS and fixed EIRS production numbers will be around 18 until 2030. Akkul stated that there are 4000 T/R modules in ERİS and even if 20% of these modules are broken, the radar can continue to operate with only 10% change in range. In the old generation PESA radars, there is a single source and receiver. Therefore, if a source is damaged, the radar becomes ineffective.

Native GaN Transistors started to be used in EIRS

Akkul also announced in the scope of the summit that the first S band domestic transistors produced by AB Mikronano had begun to be used in radars. According to the information obtained by Defense Turk, domestic GaN transistors have started to be used in the ASELSAN Early Warning Radar System (EIRS).
