i think he meant 2nd F119 class
The only truly 5th generation fighter jet engine in operation is the F119. The rest are close approximations.
From that perspective he is correct.
If Kale/RR are really getting ready to develop a true 5th generation engine for us that will be some achievement.

F35 already has a suitable engine. And I think chinese are gonna have their engine ready for j20 and j35 in next 3/4 years.

Latest ws-10c ( equipping j20 currently ) has 4000 hour lifespan on per with GE f414 and has stealthier sawtooth exhaust feathers . Compared to Ws 10 base model, which started only with 800 hours.
It is not just about stealthier nozzle there should be IR suppression technology. F-35 has it. IR suppression system can reduce the IR signature of the engine considerably for a short period of time (15-20min) so that the fighter can't be detected at a long range with IRST systems. Chinese and Russian fighters don't have such a system. Only F-35 has that capability (I'm not counting F-22 as it is not in production)

BAE systems wants cooperation in prototyping and serial production phase, and I see hints of further Tempest cooperation in the article

F135 in it’s latest guise is a 43000lbf thrust engine that creates so much heat that if the plane flies supersonic without afterburners with sustained speed for 30minutes or so, it could melt. Same is the case for using afterburners. Sustained usage of either is not advised.
This is an engine that is supposed to impart stealthy characteristics to the plane and is designed to lift and land the F35 vertically and fly conventionally too. So it is a compromise in a way.
Both existing F135 and F119 are being augmented by P&W for better stealth characteristics. But where as f119 has only one job; that is, being responsible to fly the F22 with a sister engine, it is easier to tweak than F135. Until variable cycle version of this engine comes in to play F135 will be a poor approximation of a stealthy engine, when compared to an F119.

After listening to Saha Expo panel, new TurDef article, I am 90% sure that TAI will get involved in Tempest and BAE systems will use some of newly built facilities

Staff Engineer - TF-X Systems Module Integration​


Job Description Summary This Staff Engineer will report to the Cincinnati-based Military New Product Introduction (NPI) / Growth Team Sub-Section Manager and will be responsible for supporting GE powered large combat aircraft currently under development. In this role you will be responsible for managing engine-airframe integration activities to ensure interface requirements are fully defined and met. You will work closely with several integrated product teams (IPT), formed with members from Systems Engineering, Design Engineering, Controls Engineering, and other support organizations as well as those from the Airframer Propulsion Integration teams. Your role will evolve over time from Systems Design to ensure flight safety and readiness prior to First Flight, to Flight Test Support, to Engine Qualification for the new application and use.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer for Military Systems Engineering, you will:

  • Establish plans and coordinate activities of key Integrated Product Teams (IPT)
  • Negotiate technical requirements, schedules, and contract commitments between GE and Airframer for NPI engine application
  • Derive, refine, and flow down requirements to IPT specialists
  • Serve as focal point for system level integration issues involving key engine-airframe interfaces
  • Function as engineering lead for flight test performance instrumentation design, implementation, and engine test calibration
  • Resource for flight test findings and data exploration
  • Support safety of flight and engine qualification efforts
  • Travel internationally for in-person IPT meetings and/or Program Management Reviews
  • Influence policy and development of standard work and ensure delivery within area of responsibility while partnering with other parts of the organization
  • Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, and services
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • 5 years' experience with aviation component design, maintenance, or product support

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous experience with Systems Engineering and/or working with Airframers
  • Master of Science degree in engineering
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Project Manager- TF-X

-Working jointly with TAI & BAE Systems Programme team and the TAI Project control teams to deliver the TF-X contractual obligations in support of FCC scope.

--Customer Relationship management between in country (Turkey) and back office (Warton) sites. Enact Contract Closure measures to enable transition to Stage II of the TF-X Programme. Manage PM team in country and support TAI IPT delivery teams to generate sales for the contract.
