Given that the KAAN's design is not frozen, is it sensible to build several more prototypes while data gained from prototype 1 testing has not yet been gathered? Perhaps there is a sense of urgency, given no clearance to export F-16 or Typhoon, so the idea is to get iKAAN developed quickly even if that raises the cost.

Design is frozen now.

  • KAAN AESA radar will have 2000+ GaN TRM
  • 2nd KAAN prototype will have radar
  • Production of two more test aircraft has started, one of which is scheduled to be ready in mid-2024.
  • First KAAN prototype won't have stealth coating
  • Flight computer and a fully functional landing gear has now been integrated into the first KAAN's airframe.

I wonder if this includes the one they have already been working on, or two new test aircrafts on top of that one. Nevertheless, great news, can't wait to see what's going to happen in 2 weeks!

Welp. Delays happen. This won't be the last one, we'll read many over the years. Kaan is literally the hardest thing we ever tried to do.

KAAN will not make it to December 27, but it will be in the skies next year

Kaan, our National Fighter Aircraft developed by TAI, the national pride of our country, successfully completed its first ground test over the weekend.

The Kaan, which Temel Kotil, the General Manager of TAI, announced that it will take to the skies on December 27, will most likely not make it to this date, but we will see our national fighter jet Kaan in the sky in February or March next year at the latest.

Most likely part is interesting. Writing this based on a hunch or non official communique?

While there is only a couple of weeks left to the intended first flight date what makes this media outlet make guesses instead of waiting and seeing, one wonders.

He does only mention it at the top of the article and with no source. Very reliable...

Flugrevue is quoting Temel Kotil who says, that they are on track.

Flugrueve piece came out on the 8th, and not clear when was it recorded. Habertürk piece mentions weekend tests presumably from 9th and 10th. If there is a delay, it is due to these test results. We should hear more within the week.

The piece from Habertürk contradicts itself, because he writes, that those ground tests were successfull.
So the first flight gets delayed because of successfull ground tests?
And how does he gets information about ground tests from last weekend but news sites like SavunmaSanayiST does not?
Lets assume he got insider information, why did he not quote his source?

Maybe he is not lying, but that piece is everything else than reliable.

Or the Kaan prototype passed the tests and they realized that Kaan was fit to fly. But at the last minute, the politicians came up with the idea of using this first flight as an election advertisement in the March 31 2024 elections! LOL

We don't know the extent of the tests, nor the reason for the delay if it is delayed. A successful test could mean lots of things. SSST directly copy pasted Flugrueve's piece from the 8th without giving credit to it. They are not a fully reliable source. Let's see what comes up.

If it flies on december, it will probably fly again in the next 3 months. Kotil has been touting 27 dec for months, doubt they would delay the first flight just for politipoints.

"...On December 27th, we will watch the flight of KAAN together."

This is from today, per ekonomim.com from an NTV live interview.

He is making his own predictions guys.

This geezer Bülent Aydemir is talking about his baseless prediction as if it is reality or as if someone said to him something perhaps because as you know plane paint is stripped to better accommodate tests. I don't know for sure. To me this is being an opposition troll not journalism. Making a statement like that without even referring to any unnamed sources yet delivering it as a fact.

While all officials have stated that there is no delay in the December 27 schedule, speculating on this issue without citing any sources is not journalism, but an attempt to undermine the success of the program.

But this is a progress. Since last year, we have gone from the heater block(see my avatar) to the maiden flight target. There are no other nonsense claim left to hold on to.

I should also say that what happens if the first flight date is delayed by a few weeks or months? Nothing. Our engineers and the project team have done an outstanding job so far. The project is progressing far ahead of expectations. So - for the prototype development - we have already passed the critical point. The only thing left is to announce it to the world, which will be the maiden flight.

I couldn't find link to his speech but after first taxi test Kotil said KAAN could have flew (9 months ago) if he knew how far ahead of projections TF-X project was. He could have installed flight computer software etc back in March. So I highly doubt this "journalist" or the site who are not even aware of most basic rules of journalism.

"Reporters are expected to be as accurate as possible given the time allotted to story preparation and the space available and to seek reliable sources. Properly using their sources and using accurate quoting and use of words from interview or conversation.
  • Events with a single eyewitness are reported with attribution. Events with two or more independent eyewitnesses may be reported as fact. Controversial facts are reported with attribution.
  • Independent fact-checking by another employee of the publisher is desirable. In 2018 "The Acton Plan" was created to help check information more effectively to hopefully get rid of false information.[18]
  • Corrections are published when errors are discovered. These corrections are called corrigendum in newspapers, they feature after on the next issue published.
  • Defendants at trial are treated only as having "allegedly" committed crimes, until conviction, when their crimes are generally reported as fact (unless, that is, there is serious controversy about wrongful conviction). In most publications, when defendants are convicted or pleaded guilty they will replace "allegedly" with "convicted of", "pleaded guilty to", or "found guilty of" in their reporting to avoid the small chance of a defamation issue in the event of a wrongful conviction.
  • Opinion surveys and statistical information deserve special treatment to communicate in precise terms any conclusions, to contextualize the results, and to specify accuracy, including estimated error and methodological criticism or flaws. Through this information can be properly analyzed and used without heavy bias.
  • Journalism today is built off true, accurate and objective information.[19] To remove those aspects would be damaging to the very core of not just journalism but also the very way information is spread and given to viewers and others all around the world. The audience will see the lack of ethics and standards, making others question what is good, reliable information, or not."
