Taxi tests wasn't started yet? Then that Habertürk piece was correct.
"KAAN will make its first flight in a few weeks

According to the information we have obtained, KAAN's ejection seat tests, full-length static tests, inertial and static tests of the control surfaces, landing gear drop tests, avionic system tests in the system integration laboratory, fuel tests and engine start-up tests have been carried out so far. Following the completion of ground tests and taxi tests, KAAN is expected to make its first flight in a few weeks."

While my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined, if it's for the best then it is for the best. Better safe than sorry.

Looking at the bright side we still have the spectacle coming up to look forward to, sentiments stay elevated for longer now.

Setting 27th as the final day was always wrong. This wasn't Kaan's first delay neither will it be the last. It's a multi billion dollar soon to be 5th gen fighter and probably the hardest thing we ever set our eyes on.

No reason to cry over it, it'll fly when it's ready spread its wings.

This is why I dislike the big statements and chest beating done from time to time by the officials, because when things go wrong, it looks twice as bad.

Guys no need to cry, Hürjet also got its first flight delayed by more than a month, earthquake was used as a nice and reasonable cover for the delay.

The only problem was (for both Hürjet and Kaan) setting hard deadlines, saying "around the end of 2023" is more than enough

It’s not like any guy here would change their vote based on the officials statements. But there are people who would in Turkey. The time, period, season for first flight doesn’t make sense. You’d want a day where nothing happens to truly conduct that first flight, no wind, no rain, just clear sky no birds.

So Haberturk article from 11.12.2023 about KAAN possibly being delayed until MARCH was accurate.
Mayoral elections are in March 31 2024.

December flight would have been forgotten in a week at most. Didn't make much sense anyway but still a source of great annoyance for me.

Maybe there will be a twin engine naval fighter version of Hürjet. F/A-18 uses two F404 engines too.
And for the naval trainer version of Hürjet would be a single F404 engine enough.
So the reason could be maintenance.
You would have to completely redesign the Hürjet and the aircraft might have to get folding wings otherwise you won't get many in.
To keep TCG Anadolu operational as an amphibious aircraft carrier you need at least 8 Hürjets and 14 drones of different types and 4 light combat helicopters and 4 transport helicopters/troop carriers.

I knew it would be delayed, but secretly hoped that it will fly on time. Our engineers are pushing the limits and slight delays are not a problem for me. This is not a toy, but a 4.5-5 Gen fighter. I only hope everything goes as planned without problems in its first flight.

Actually the Jet fighter linked to Mayoral elections is quite stupid.Local government would not decide any defence industry plan....especially in the system of TC.

Mayoral election should focus on Parks,Roads,Railway and Metro.....

I don't understand why Tusas is cornering themselves and puts engineers extra pressure like this. You only extra stress your engineers and risk credibility of the project like this. They are risking losing public support for the project which is very important considering the cost.

No one expected Kaan to fly this year, even Ismail Demir said Kaan doesn't need to fly this year but no, Tusas insisted on this. Kaan is one of the projects that potential delays are expected. Just say she will fly when she is ready or give a time period. You can't even guarantee the weather if you give a specific day so why do it?

Anyway, it is okay that she is not flying tomorrow. She will fly when she is ready. Delay doesn't really matter for me. Hope Tusas doesn't corner themselves like this again but I am not sure considering the elections are coming.

Couldn't agree more with this. Delays are natural, they can happen in complex projects like this. But Tusaş and the government need to stop being reckless with their dates and other declarations. This project shouldn't be a propaganda tool.
