What do you think, the I class frigate still needs rear AKR-D since we won't use ESSM which has semi-active guidance?

It is being said that G40s are used in future frigates . So the radar of Gökdeniz could be put higher.

Does anybody still think

- RAM is expensive/redundant?
- Sungur should be used for close in missile defense because Göktuğ is heavy?
- Phalanx/Gökdeniz is enough?
- 8-16 VLS cells are enough?
Yes, I still think RAM is expensive and redundant at that price tag compared to an ESSM or similar missile. I never said Sungur should be used. I said a cost-effective missile should be developed either from Sungur(by scaling it up) or from bozdoğan(a more cost-effective cheaper version) to be a local RAM alternative.


TN doesn't want to use RAM if they can buy ESSM or equivalent missiles for the same price. Rather than paying 30 million for RAM, I would put 8 more VLS cells and 32 more ESSM. In the concept phase Milgem-S (predecessor and project name of istif class) it is designed as 8x VLS+RAM. TN decided against it as putting RAM costs similar to adding 8 VLS so they opted for the latter. (Note that there is a budget you either put RAM or +8x VLS). IF you argue why not both 16x VLS+RAM than I would say why not 24x VLS. Unless Turkiye has a local RAM alternative with a much cheaper price tag TN will always opt for putting more VLS cells and adding more medium-range missiles with missile interception capability.

For naval asset which has no VLS capability RAM is good because it is the only option.

Could we see naval variant of Roketsan ALKA being integrated to ships for C-UAS threats? Terrorists are going to try attack ships as their long distance drone capabilities get better. Something small as ALKA would be very easy to integrate.

Meet Nazar DIRCM, which eventually will be used on naval platforms. It could be even on trials on a ship, who knows ;)
While for RF jammers or EW capability, most of the major assets are equipped with a decent EW suite.

ALKA, ARMOL, Aselsan LSS is good for boats under thread of helicopters and mini drones.

That was what on my mind since i have heard the MIDLAS integration, front AKR can still remain there for the main gun and future semi-active RF guided munitions (like DARDO), but the rear one is going to be removed if not needed for the latter mentioned reason;
Or both will remain and will be used as mid-course guidance illuminator for the seeker and missile will switch to active mode in the terminal phase once it is close enough.

I'd like to ask do we have any work on variable depth sonars? There was a discussion in waff and I'd like to learn stuff about that matter.

My previous post on the similar topic, without these Tu-22s on Syria, now the stakes are higher:
For the network based flotilla:

-Advent, a CMS capable of network up/down link
-Kement, 2-way data link and mission planning for munitions, Kement also provide benefits to shared defenses on the next matter. It is not a simple two-way data link or a simple man in the loop, it will also enable swarm-countering capabilities by time;
-Sensor fusion project, there was one several years ago for an individual ship, it is being extended probably will be heard along with the next one;
-A new CMS (Add on): Shared defense environment of multiple platforms in the close perimeter, which we will hear this or next year.
-A new CMS (Add on): AEGIS like semi-autonomous /autonomous dedicated air defense / combat management system, which we will hear with TF-2000.
-Upgrade for the above AEGIS like system, which will enable wide are air defenses by using sensors in multi-static configuration (leaked in Aselsan Road Map)

They are not really ignoring what future warfare will require, a portion of it is ready, while the rest is planned ahead and ships/softwares are designed to allow expansion and upgrade.

Many times I have said this is possible. But each time somebody came up with a negative comment. Now top man in Tusas is mentioning it.
Stopping the plane is not a big problem, if you are prepared to damage the surface of the ship at the landing end, to accommodate arresting wire and hook mechanism. Most planes can stop within 85-100m with this system.
There are Two problems here:
1. If we are going to land Hurjet on to this ship’s deck with an hydraulic arresting wire, the wire system has to have enough give to stop a plane that is 10+ tons in weight. That arresting wire system will be too strong for the 1200kg TB3 and cause catastrophic damage. Solution is electromagnetic variable strength arresting wire system that will be suitable for both planes. Or use two separate systems!
2. Take off from the ship with optimum weight will require a strong engine and a lot of lift, plus a brake system on the deck, that will release the plane when it has reached full thrust conditions. So may be a little more wing area! (EJ200TVC engine would be one possible solution)

I have another crazy project . Soon TurAF will replace old an/apg 68 with AESA radars so that means we will have app 300 redundant fighter radars which is very compact. Here is the idea, we could make SAM systems connecting APG/68 with Bozdoğans and Gökdoğans.

The new system could be applied on land vehicles as well as on YTKBs due to they are compact.
Imagine 4 fixed APG/68 radars on YTKB like Burke class destroyers :)

Now I'm curious if we can make a land vehicle completely out of radars. They're made of metal so pretty good for armour. They're round too so we can use them for wheels. No need for windows - the radars will see all. And if we attach some rockets to some of them, we can make a radar guided radar bomb. Plus it would confuse the enemy, so it has advantages in psychological warfare.

Similar to the guy who made a house out of doors:

I doubt that parts removed from jets could easily be installed on another platform without bureaucratic obstacles. especially if it's an F-16. The software and interface problem seems simpler than the bureaucratic problem in this equation.
