What would you say about unmanned gyrocopters? Which new capabilities would bring into Armies?
images.jpeg

İn Navy they could be useful?

Unmanned gyrocopters, offer several advantages over other unmanned helicopters and unmanned planes. Here are some of the key advantages:

Airial-Robotics-Gyrotrak-UAV.jpg

VTOL Capability: Unmanned gyrocopters have vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, similar to helicopters. This allows them to operate in confined spaces and areas with limited infrastructure, making them more versatile and flexible in various mission scenarios.

Efficiency: Gyrocopters have an advantage in terms of energy efficiency. Unlike helicopters, gyrocopters use an unpowered rotor for lift and rely on an engine-driven propeller for forward motion. This design allows them to achieve longer flight times and cover greater distances with less energy consumption.

images (2).jpeg

Stability: Gyrocopters are inherently stable due to their unique design. The rotation of the unpowered rotor provides stability and lift, while the engine-driven propeller provides thrust. This stability makes them easier to control, reducing the risk of accidents and improving mission success rates.

Lower Noise Signature: Compared to helicopters, gyrocopters tend to produce less noise. This lower noise signature can be advantageous in situations where stealth and covert operations are required, minimizing the risk of detection by the enemy.

Cost-effectiveness: Gyrocopters are generally more cost-effective compared to both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. They typically have lower procurement costs, maintenance requirements, and operational expenses. This cost-effectiveness allows for wider deployment and increased availability of unmanned gyrocopters in military operations.

Payload Capacity: Gyrocopters have the advantage of being able to carry a significant payload while still maintaining stability and flight performance. This allows for the integration of various sensors, cameras, communication systems, and even weapon systems, making them highly versatile in a range of military applications.

Gendarmarie can use it for patroling. I am not sure if they have such a need. But Gyrocopters are more for recreational use than anything. They need a runway to take off and land.

They need very short runway. Landing requires shorter. Some gyrocopters have jump capability so they don't need runway.

When it comes to unmanned system where pilot skill is not required I would say helicopers is the only way to go as they are fully controllable. Gyrocopters shine for safety as they are in autorotation at all times and are much safer than helicopters for this reason alone. Again, kindo, this is the first unmanned Gyrocopter I remember seeing, LOL.

Helicopters are very complicated and very expensive to produce while they have very limited payload and range capabilities. Helicopters palls are state of art technology.
Gyrocopters are very simple so Producing Gyrocopters is very easy and cheap.

For Navy they would be great. TCG ANADOLU could operate. Also for Transport could be used.

For military use, cost is not really an issue, but controllability is paramaunt.

Too bad in Türkiye helicopter sector is too weak. Until TAI started making them with help from the Italians there was no achievement at all. There were tiny remote controlled recreational models. In Japan they use small helicopters for pesticide applications in agricultural use. Still today other than TAI and foreign partnership ALPIN there is no operational builds.

BTW Bayraktar TB2 and others needs a flat concrete runway. It is not possible to take off and land from dirt ground or grass or field. Also, they need a long runway to take off. Most gyrocopters nowadays only require around 20mof runway to go up in the sky and around 60mfor landing. That means they can be flown from practically everywhere.

Gyrocopters can take off and land from grass football fields, villages.
So you don't need to airbases which your enemys' first target.

Is there a precedent to using a gyrocopter in military, I highly doubt.

Almost no.

Engine of autogyros don't power the rotors. Rotors turn Themselves from pushing power of wind.

An autogyro (from Greek αὐτός and γύρος, "self-turning"), or gyroplane, is a class of rotorcraft that uses an unpowered rotor in free autorotation to develop lift. While similar to a helicopter rotor in appearance, the autogyro's unpowered rotor disc must have air flowing upward across it to make it rotate.

İf We could make unmanned X3 style hybrid helicopter , it would be different solution.

Anyway i quit . Autogyros are enough:)

Medium altitude test and flight with landing gear off.

Step by step towards short take-off tests. When this beautiful bird takes off at 100-120 meters, it will be the first item on the agenda of many western defense blogs and fanzines.

Cheap and fast production, ultra-versatile range of missions, another example of a Turkish-type philosophy of developing appropriate doctrine and developing system in line. This is often overlooked in analyses of the development of the Turkish defense industry, but it is probably also the most important dynamo in the progress of the Turkish defense industry. Turkish defense are not modeling themselves after armies and industries with very different conditions, but are developing within their own conditions and under the guidance of the army's staff. Developing strategies lead to systems.

But is PD170 powerful enough to do that? Or would we have to wait for PD-222ST for that?
I have had the impression for a while that while PD222 is intended for that purpose, because it goes down to 115HP at 30k feet vs 130HP of Pd170 they were actually intending to use PD170 instead thinking it might be enough for take off.

So many examples yet no navy effectively uses them. I wonder why
