When I say liberal I refer to the philosophy of liberalism (that which emphasizes individual freedom), not the political leaning as per the american use of the word. I was under the impression that in switzerland the understanding of the word was as the philosophy. It's strange that you use the american interpretation of the word, have you spent significant time in US/Canada?

Human Rights as referred to generally (UN declaration) is essentially a liberal (liberalism the political philosophy) concept.
So in short you dont think its necessary to provide basic and equal human rights to the citizen.

There was no reason for it to go down quite the way it has....this degree of rush and unpreparedness heaped onto Afghan forces....given there is nothing close to any guarantee extremist groups (of international reach) will not regather in the void left behind.

Unless there is a reason that is not evident to most at the present time.

AP Archive 21 Jul 2015
(28 Apr 2007) .

SOUNDBITE (French): Celine, Released French aid worker ( Only first name given): "I have a message to send you. Before releasing me, they (the kidnappers) gave me a letter, of which I would like to read you a few lines - in English." (Continues in English): "Celine, the leadership of Islamic Emirate in Islamic sympathy and with Islamic behaviour and (inaudible) direction decided to release you without any conditions, (inaudible) this message for the entire world especially Europe, how the innocent people have been killed. You must have been in trouble during transferring from place to place, but it was to save you. Celine, (inaudible) this message to Europe. There is propaganda in west countries that Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate have no respect for women rights. But you have seen practically how Mujahideen, how modesty behaviour they have. Celine, now we want from (the) French to leave our country, it is our right. With this lawful winning is someone called terrorist."

7. SOUNDBITE (French): Celine, Released French aid worker ( Only first name given): "I would like to thank the Taliban for keeping their promise and delivering me, back to my parents. I will never forget that they gave me food, that they gave me drinks and that they treated me with respect. I want to ask them to have pity in the name of their god, Eric, Ashraf, Hashim and Rasul. Eric came like me, to Afghanistan as a friend. Hashim, Rasul and Ashraf are Afghans. They are Muslims. They are their brothers. They have children waiting for them. I praise them to show the world that they are no enemies. I want to ask them to free them. I told them before leaving that my freedom is nothing without their liberty (Eric, Ashraf, Hashim and Rasul). I want you to pass them this message. Please release them." ( Celine breaks down into tears)

I think it's about time you changed your twitter feeds because their credibility is even less then Ashraf Ghani's right now. Until just a few days ago you guys were pasting tweets which lauded the mighty ANA and Special Forces. How the Indian trained Afghan airforce in combination with ANA had turned Kabul into a impregnable fort. And how Taliban were being mauled/volunteers/Afghan population were coming out to defend their homeseads against the barbarians.

Then somebody let a fart after eating few eggs and Ghani was in Tajikistan with his dollars, Saleh was hiding in Panjshir showing fists and Talibs were taking selfies in Ghani's palace.

I speculated on this forum that Taliban would go to holding position, consolidate and let the winter pass. Then go on the offensive by spring with victory by summer next.

Not knowing that somebody was about to let 'mother of all farts'.

It's about time members accepted this reality. Taliban is Afghanistan. Of all the groups and factions in the country including the one USA built up Taliban had the widest and deepest support. Thus they are the face of Afghanistan.

Ultimately this was the reason they trounced ANA - aforce supplied and equpped by a supertpower numbering 300,000 men or 4 times more then the Talibs.

And ANA had a airforce, you can split hairs that they lacked logistical support but Talibs had no airforce - zilch!

Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh to Muslim
& Good day to Others

The Taliban could be

different this time,

Britain's army chief says

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/ta...his-time-britains-army-chief-says-2021-08-18/

The world should give the Taliban
the space to form a new government
in Afghanistan and
may discover that the
insurgents cast as militants by the West for decades
have become more reasonable,
the head of the British army said on Wednesday.
