IDEF has become one of the few fairs in the world. We are playing for the world's first place in bilateral meetings and square meters. We are in the third place in the world in terms of company participation.
The reason for this is that they have very large stands. Only ASELSAN's stand is 5 thousand square meters, you cannot find such a large stand in other fairs. We had to set up a navigation system for the exhibitors to take their products to the fairground and find their place. navigation system was used. This is a measure of the size of the fair."

Drawing attention to the high level of participation in the fair, Infantry stated that senior officials from 81 countries, including defense ministers and chiefs of general staff, came to IDEF 2021.
Giving the information that more than 160 foreign delegations made various contacts at the fair, Piyade said, "IDEF broke its own record every time in terms of company participation. We had 1061 participants in 2019, we reached 1236 here.

If we had space, it could have been even more. We set our targets very high,
'Which company can give us a place in 2023?' We think. We will need at least 50-55 thousand square meters.


IDEF23 will need a bigger Center.

TF-2000 project getting into life
SSB President İsmail Demir made an announcement about the TF-2000 Air Defence Destroyer. If you had no opportunity to read, we hinted about the long waited story almost a month ago. Mr Demir set up a press briefing at IDEF and told the good news to almost 20 journalists. It is sad to see that the news does not receive enough attention from the press. I disagree about bigger place expectations. We need the new vision. IDEF must be divided into three like land, air and naval platforms. Eurosatory, le Bourget and Euronaval are the good examples of it. The big place costs more, small size enterprises can not afford it. Four days expo was not enough for me and I had the opportunity to enter the expo at 8 am and stay there until 2 am. (TurDef assisted IDEF Daily) It was still not enough. We should give up from "the bigger the better" concept and concentrate on efficiency. Divided IDEF would give a path to newcomers. We will have time to examine each work sufficiently. IDEF has to be either a 1-week expo (who can afford it?) or give birth to three expertise expos.

I agree on that, the Naval part of IDEF never deserves the attention it catches, should we give candies or what? I wonder. And rather ignored by the most people including the professionals!. It is necessary at least to separate the Naval part and let roketsan-aselsan-tübitak or whoever to display their solutions specific to the naval platforms so it will not be lost among the others.

I did even say my hesitation about the tender, there is no single private shipyard that can handle TF-2000 off the start, yet alone its budget that surpasses a billion $. They can,however, handle the 2nd to 4th ships only if granted and monitored by SSB financially. The first one should definitely be constructed by a Naval shipyard.

The tender will never be fair because the private shipyards know their way to bid low in the tender and then get additional feeds because of re-dos. Just like happened in TCG Anadolu, Sedef has billed additional-unexpected fees to the SSB despite of they have bid for a fixed price at the tender. It is their responsibility to foresee those "unexpected stuff" and include in the bid, but they don't do that trusting their relations.

Miilux OY, which produces armor steel and wear-resistant steel with an annual capacity of 38 thousand tons and meets Turkey's armor steel needs, aims to reduce foreign dependency.

Finnish origin company guess now we have a production plant in Manisa? According to the news after being able meet Turkey's high-strength steel needs they start exporting to Germany, Ukraine, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, South Africa and Nigeria.

Does it have magnetic lock or something to be able to stay on top of the vehicle ?
A tether- cable, sometimes only for hooking,sometimes can transmit power and data, in my opinion we will see these more in this year. Something such is also being considered for the boats.

Totally agree splitting into 3 expos/fairs by service branch theme...Land, Aerospace and Marine.

Surely this has been suggested before and starting to be considered?...especially given Turkey defence industry increasingly becoming more diverse and involving companies of all sizes.

Hopefully pressure can be applied to make it so.

Navy and SSB have different visions on that. I started to speak with two sources from both sides and got into depth information later. It is crystal clear that the Navy wants to control the entire process. They want to be able to make amendments to the project if they want to. A private shipyard does not function this way. Change of project requires amendment in the agreement. This takes a long time and this is what the Navy hates. At the end of the day, this will be the 6th vessel to be constructed. The Navy has brilliant engineers. They must know how to design without the need for an amendment. About the shipyard capacity... there are some candidates but It is too early to mention names. About the billing... yes and no.. Yes, I agree.. get the lowest price, get the tender... get extra payment... typical.. no... get the tender... then the entire terms change... No more F-35b. Will the tender be fair??? I do not know... can you control the expenses at the naval shipyard? Can you claim that it is fair to leave private shipyards out just because it will not be a fair one? I believe that SSB and navy should cooperate on the job rather than arm wrestling. The result would be fair.

Navy wants to control entire process because private shipyards once ended up messing things up in favor of making profits moreover not really watching the process closely as naval shipyard does and mostly leaving it to some subcontractors unattended and assigning their engineers on commercial projects. They are right by all means for the first ship and for the latter i also support construction at a private shipyard again under inspection of the naval forces (which actually happens but SSB involves way too much and renders naval forces ineffective in the process)

I think costs are much better managable in the naval shipyard because , 1st there is no cost for use of the shipyard it is supplied by Navy, 2nd no profit concerns nobody cares if the shipyard is occupied for several years on a single hull, 3th no financial concerns to clear slip way or to clear dock, the hull can be docked whenever needed for a redo unlike waiting for months as happened in a private shipyard. I know a case where, A private shipyard delayed a navy related project for months at the cost of extra fees to complete an order for a luxurious order, and another one where the private shipyard left something unattended and didn't check subcontractors and they ended up doing a very wrong job eventually set the project back by 6-8 months at 100m additional fees (that is somehow managed to be billed at SSB)

Private shipyards had done bad things that they deserve the attitude of Navy and navy is right to control every step in the first ship, we should all accept private shipyards are nowhere close to the naval shipyards in terms of quality. And SSB of nowadays is not really good as in the past to make it a struggle for private shipyards but they do everything to ease the job by not forcing them.

In sum: private shipyards make profit, naval shipyards make the job happen.
