@Joe Shearer @meghdut @Paro and all members potentially interested in developing ORBAT for Indian army....let us compile/discuss in this thread over time.

I will edit the OG post to have the ORBAT itself.

I’m in Nilgiri
I was hoping you would be joining us sooner, and am very agitated it took you so long.

I am putting down, first, the command- and corps-wise ORBAT, to add divisions and brigades to it later.

Usually, it's very accurate. It's updated monthly AFAIK.

Busy these days, I'll chip in whenever I can.

Also check out this book. I just glanced at it once. It had new orbat pretty well laid out. Will buy it sometime in the future when I have time.

Dada , really interested in the way artillery ( mountain warfare) and MI , where you will place them ....
I'd like your opinions.

This is the problem.

We have around 1.2 million troops under arms and in services. That's across 39 divisions. 10 divisions, perhaps 12, face the PLA, and the remaining 29 divisions, perhaps 27, face the Pakistan Army. The uncertainty is due to the uncertainty regarding the number of divisions currently with XIV Corps, and facing the PLA in Ladakh. It seems that no divisions have been placed here, only brigades; apparently, XIV Corps has been supplemented by four independent brigades, three independent Infantry brigades, one being an independent armoured brigade.

Of these, some, either 29 or 27, face 23 divisions of the Pakistani Army. Not all of these face the Indian border, however. At least 2 Corps are facing the Afghan border, one operating out of Quetta, one out of Peshawar.

XI CORPS, HQ at Peshawar, and its units, 7th Infantry Division at Miranshah, 9th Infantry Division at Kohat, face Afghanistan. XII Corps, HQ at Quetta, and 33rd Infantry Division at Quetta, 41st Infantry also at Quetta, and 44th at Gwadar, are facing away.

In sum, 5 out of 23 divisions of the Pakistani Army are facing away; the remainder 18 are facing our 29 divisions.

This is the status.

What could be the problem to be solved?

How much is the paperback version?

Not asking you for serious time off, but do take a look at the question I have asked, just above.

Here is the thing.
  1. which formations will you use for this offensive?
  2. What will be the head-count? How many vehicles, of which sort, and of which level of fuel consumption?
  3. How much will they consume in terms of supplies - food, ammunition, and fuel outwards, the wounded and the dead inwards?
  4. Where will your stock points be? How will materials come into those? How will materials be despatched to the field?
  5. What deterioration of the supply lines do you expect due to enemy air activity or interdiction shelling? What effect will that have on operations?
  6. Are supplies available?
  7. What casualties do you expect? What MTBF do you expect?
  8. What air support will you need, both offensive - striking at the opponent - and defensive - warding off the opponents' air attacks? Where will you find this?
  9. What will be your effective force in the field, for each day of the first two weeks, and for each week for the third and fourth weeks?
  10. As you have seen, the Indian Army is bunched up in knots in places, and very widely spread in others. How will the formations be found? What happens to the gaps that are created? What is the probability that the Pakistan Army will interrogate prisoners, find out their formations, look at the pre-hostility ORBAT, and counter-attack the gaps that will have opened up?

Do you have WhatsApp numbers that can be used?
As an alternative, if you can give me usable e-mail ids that can be used, I can put you into a Google Group. I've just made some cosmetic changes to it to update it for the purposes of coordination of our war-gaming/simulation efforts.

We've been overtaken a bit. As of now, everyone other than you has suggested an alternative e-mail id, they have been registered in the GoogleGroup under this e-mail, and we are all ready for action.

If you could just take that extra bit of trouble designing a made-to-order e-mail id, we can put you on and we can start in earnest tomorrow (not the morning, India time, but the afternoon onwards).

No issues.

Would you like to be an observer, from inside the group, or just watch from outside?
