Years ago I don't remember exactly which year I was during IDEF at the section of the Navy where they had this maquete of a Gabya class frigate (ex Perry) that had received the modernization of Genesis combat management system, Smart-S radar, addition of an 8 cell MK41 VLS launcher in front of the MK-13 tartar launcher

To me it was odd why they had kept the MK-13 launcher and not used that space for an extra 8 cell MK41, so I asked the naval officer there why they kept the MK-13 (in my eyes outdated and quite useless). I remember the officer saying that we still had SM-1 missiles to use and that a missile was being developed to replace the SM-1.

Very odd because back than there were no developments of AD missiles (at least not known to the public) , so I did not pay much attention to that. But now the Siper missile is in development, which I think has similar size to the SM-1 / SM-2 missile and my conversation with the naval officer comes back to my mind. Are we planning the MK-13 tartar launcher for the Siper missile?
Officers have a different way of speaking, sometimes they answer in literal meaning like : Siper will replace SM-1 for the Navy, not referring the SM-1s in Gabya but in general. Like they call cruises missiles as guided bullets.

The original siper (block-2 currently) closer to SM-1 in diameter and length, but that missile requires a proper search and illumination radar duo with data-link systems. Instead of installing all these, better to introduce a multi-purpose frigate design.

Bro isn’t it what you are supposed to do when you hit a certain $ value and especially when you get to be known globally. Hire professionals to delegate chores around your large company.
You are right of course, but when I try to search for famous turkish marketing managers I get a list of top 15 CMO


They're pretty much all on consumer goods, and internal market. We could stretch it and say THY is a global brand, but that's in the service industry.

Our defense industry needs to prove themselves on the battlefield to sell themselves. But with the success we experience you have to hire the best CMO to keep the market aware of what you can deliver.

As an example we have the domestic ventilator that got much needed attention during Corona. And I shared news about this device being R&D with help from Aselsan, before Corona hit us all, but the people involved in it could not even market it to our domestic market very well.

Only when Corona hit, did all the attention and help from tech giants like Vestel, Aselsan etc. even Bayraktar chipped in on the production. Thus it got enough attention to sell. O kadar Acizis iste. :(

I thought that one of the reason for the increased defense budget was to relieve the navy a little bit, more explicitly to put 3 frigates on the slipway at the same time. If there will be a single prime contractor for the I class, this will create a timetable for the delivery of the 3rd ship up to 2030.
Single prime contractor will build all of them at the same time probably.

I understand that most probably a shipyard group ,tais?, will get the deal or STM will get it and give to several shipyards.

Bro, he may have misunderstood what he has heard. At this stage only the primary contractor is going to be elected, it has to be done through a bidding process but likely MoD had concluded it somehow. The bid would cover design studies up to detailed design phase. No shipyard is crazy enough to make a bid for a project which is yet to complete conceptual design stage. This is equivalent to what was done in Ada-Class: STM was elected as primary contractor and coordinated other subcontractors up to end of detailed design phase, later moved onto the construction. Also, same as in the I-Class. STM took Milgem from conceptual design phase and took it to the end of detailed/construction design phase in coordination with several design offices and Milgem DPO.

Current stage of TF2000 is conceptual design stage, contractor will take it from there to the end of contract design stage (or up to end of detail design stage). Only after that, a shipyard may dare to bid for construction knowing structural details and how much it is going to cost to construct the hull, how long it is going to occupy the dry dock etc.

I should further add, the selected primary contractor also indicates which shipyard will be building the first hull, which is labeled as prototype. As in TTHB project ,which STM is conducting, the design phase will be completed by primary contractor and then moved onto the prototype construction. Following a progress in the construction then serial production tender will be held for 3 additional hulls.

Yes, it is either TAIS or STM at this point. However, STM may also work with one or two shipyards from the TAIS concortium. Based on security licenses there are few shipyards who can build the military vessels; Desan (now part of Ada), RMK, TAIS members, Dearsan, Istanbul Shipyard - (unsure about Ozata) - . RMK is booked with Ukranian Ada Class orders, Dearsan has got Nigerian OPV project in short term which leaves us with Istanbul Shipyard (TCG Ufuk) and Desan (LDG) + Possibly ADIK.

I am more in favor of STM getting the deal and sharing it to TAIS members, win-win in many ways. However STM is not quite good on terms with one of the TAIS members.

At this stage only one shipyard ,who is not oriented for profits, may bear the financial and time risks of building a prototype; Pendik Naval Shipyard (ITK), that leaves us with the question of who will be the primary contractor for design and prototype construction; STM or ASFAT? . STM was contractor of Ada and I Class, as well as TTHB but recent trends show that MoD - DzKK in favor of ASFAT as contractor (for example OPV). So, anyone who is making a comment has 50-50 chance :).

TF2000's model scale experiments have been commenced and being conducted at Istanbul Technical University, both in towing tank and newly introduced ITU-KAT cavitation tunnel.

I thought we'd only ordered four!
According to below Article there are 9 planes in the program. 6 of them belong to Meltem project and 3 are utility aircafts.

If a fast forty variant is also targeted to exceed 400 rounds per minute, the system could be used to defend against anti-ship missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and other precision-guided weapons. It could also be used against conventional and rotary wing aircraft, surface ships, small watercrafts, coastal targets and floating mines.

An MLU package including HIZIR-TKAS/LFAS and 40 mm stealth cupola CIWS for Tuzla class patrol boats would be great.
