Remote Radar ED/ET System on KORAL-II Land Platform
KORAL-II, whose development work started on November 12, 2020 under the contract signed in 2020 and is expected to enter the Turkish Armed Forces inventory in the first half of 2025, is a GaN-based HEMT (High Electron Mobility Transistor) system compared to its predecessor KORAL-I, which consists of GaAs-based T/R modules. ) and MIMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) structures, it will be able to meet the requirements of wider frequency band coverage (it has been stated that it covers all radar frequencies) and higher output power (longer range). KORAL-II, which will have a wider frequency aperture in both Radar ED and Radar ET roles and will be capable of detecting the direction and position of threat radar transmissions more precisely, will thus provide the user with the ability to detect and jam/blunt target elements from a greater distance.
KORAL-II, as a modern Stand-Off Jammer System developed against new generation threats, opens a safe air corridor to a certain depth in enemy airspace, allowing our warplanes to enter the country's territory, like a ghost plane, without being seen by enemy radars, and to remain safe after performing their missions. will be able to make it come back in some way. KORAL-II, which has lower band and upper band Radar ED and ET Systems, can be controlled remotely with the Operational Control Unit. KORAL-II can also be controlled from any shelter environment. So you can log into the system and control it remotely, for example from Ankara. With the KORAL-II System, which has advanced algorithms created using artificial intelligence and contains the highest technologies in terms of both software, hardware and RF design, safe communication is possible through both fiber-optic cable and RF data link (Data Link). In standard configuration, each set of Remote Radar ED/ET System on KORAL-II Land Platform; A total of 4 R-ET System Vehicles, 2 of which are Lower Band and 2 Upper Band, Lower Band R-ED System Vehicle, Upper Band Radar-ED System Vehicle, Maintenance-Repair Unit and Life Support Unit Vehicles and portable structures ( It consists of an Operational Control Unit (placed on the trailer). However, different combinations can be created from this set according to user needs (the number of R-ED or R-ET Systems may increase according to user demand) and the number of vehicles can be increased.
When Radio Link is used between the R-ED and R-ET Vehicles in the KORAL-II System and the Operational Control Unit, which is an anti-radar system that can operate in the communication band (it can also operate in the communication band as a frequency band), there will be no distance restriction in the line of sight (LoS). . For example, it can be controlled by connecting to the System from another city. However, if communication will be provided via fiber-optic cable, the distance between vehicles will be limited to a maximum of 1km.
Considering the dimensions, operating frequencies, output powers, GaAs T/R (Transmit/Receive) modules, phased array antenna technology and electronic beam directing capabilities of the antennas used in the KORAL-I Mobile Radar EH System, the KORAL Radar ET System has a range of 150-200km. It was estimated that the KORAL Radar ED System could be used up to a maximum range of 300-500km, depending on the altitude of the vehicle's location above sea level and the power of the adversary radar. In KORAL-II, I evaluate that in addition to a certain range increase, higher levels will be achieved in terms of both detection sensitivity and mixing performance thanks to the use of GaN-based HEMT and MIMIC structures.
