In final configuration, Hürjet may have some different dimensional features. I expect to see a Hürjet with a length around 14m. She will be more or less a Gripen or F16 in size.
If it can be fitted with a Turkish engine the Hürjet can be highly optimized for a certain mission.
I wish the trainer function becomes secondary to the fighter function rather than the other way around.

All subcontractor agreements for the Hurjet craft has now been officially signed. The production program of the jet has taken one step closer. The timescale of the production process seems to be going forward as per Mr Kotil’s latest speech.
There will be four different versions of the plane; two trainer versions, an acrobatic show plane version and a light attack craft version.

Maybe a different role assigned?

There is advantage sometimes to having no radar.
come on guys, what is that nose for then? obviously it will have the radar... also, unlike f16, i can see that its nose is designed to have less radar cross section.. it will also be a good test until Turkey start producing TFX

I was just thinking out loud...light fighter/trainer, say dedicated CAS + ground attack role with full other sensors and datalink etc (jaguar-S for example lacked radar and put other sensor to have no chance to be detected by its radar emission since it would be handled by quaterback like an awacs or larger fighter if needed with datalink).

But I see air-air (AIM-9X) role is there too, so its gonna have a radar for sure.

Gonna be sweet following this project, I have enjoyed the concept ever since I saw F-5 up close.

Main reason behind the start of Hurjet Project was to give Turkish Airforce a modern and contemporary trainer aircraft to replace the ageing T38 Trainers. Also give the pilots to be , a platform that will make them accustomed to when flying f35 and TFX planes. So a lot of the cockpit and general operations will have to simulate and be along the lines of a 5th generation fighter plane.
If this logic is anything to go by I would expect an Aesa radar but no less! Even if it is of a smaller size.

these days EW protection is so important even if you go against ground targets, plus SAR and ISAR against ground targets, which AESA radar can it all alone. you have no idea about Turkey, Turkey always like to diminish things unlike IRan, because it would scare Egypt and will got to arm itself like f35 and so on immediately. Who would develop a jet against ground forces when you got Akinci with all capabilities? the whole reason is to fill the gap until TFX comes and also you can sell lots of these to friendly countries.. at the same times, you can put your systems on or even test the nose design for TFX, you can not change the design of any other purchased aircraft..

I expect we would see the same AESA radar that would equip Akinci to be used on Hurjet too, small in size similar to SELEX Vixen 500E

In the models Hurjet even has what seems to look like AIM-120

it will never be used like that, of course for close range may be, but when IRST able to see 100km away, CATS type of system has 3-4 times less range at best scenario, because IRST is specifically designed for that and search for a wide range of area... what if your camera look at down to look for ground targets?

I don't see why not, CATS has really good WFOV. Better than even Aselpod, Aselpod showing off it's WFOV

T-50 Golden Eagle is going to be primary competition to Hurjet, so we need to beat them :)
If only it was furnished with a more powerful engine! In stead of f404, an f414 class engine would make it perform closer to our f16’s.

Hurjet might still be able to support EJ-2000 engine

Well, KAI T50 is being offered to potential buyers with 3 engine options;
f404 : 17700lbf thrust (although there is a version that develops 19000lbf too)
EJ200 : 20200lbf thrust
f414 : 22000lbf thrust
These engines are quite similar in size and weight. So it is possible for all three engines, with certain alterations, to be used on our Hurjet too.

  • Klimov_RD-33 thrust 50.0 kN (11,230 lbf) dry, 81.3 kN (18,285 lbf) afterburning.
  • Guizhou_WS-13 thrust 54–56 kN (12,000–13,000 lbf) dry; 90 kN (20,000 lbf) with afterburning.
These two engines fit in the bill. Russian and Chinese.
Variants of these engines have better performance. Pakistan's JF-17 Thunder use a Klimov.
These engines can be a resort of last choice if need be.
