Okay , i dont want to get into this topic again and again , i am not a big fan of bmc lately , but lets be honest , what can we do , we dont have engines , and some people say we already have 40 engines well we are talking about a whole project about 1000 tank to be produced .
One more time otokar is one of the first companies in turkey to support and give turkish armored vehicle , but lets be real again even if otokat got the tender we still have a big problem , germany dont want to send the powerpacks .
I thunk it would be better to stick the tank program with otokar , but it is the same problem guys .
I hope that we will solve this problem but sadly i thibk we dont have the time the ssb know that so they focused on other important things as airdefence

And also what i dont like about the media of defence industry in turkey is the unclearity , there is no proper media , they dont make proper videos , i mean this media stuff can doble or triple the sales of arms to other people .
I mean all the video we get even about the armored vehicle we get from ordinary people or youtubers and they did a great job , so why they dont release videos even tb2 i think other countries did more to sell this platform more than turkey did

That’s what I think too. There is a huge lack of marketing not only in the defence industry, but also tourism. I swear Tourist making videos on YouTube about Turkey are more efficient than the Ministry of tourism.

-if we have to pick the politest words. obviously There are some serious problems with BMC.

-calling ALTAY an outdated design is problematic as well since you should specify what exactly is outdated about the ''DESIGN''? again ''DESIGN''?
BMC and Ethem sancak are questionable entities.. I would exclude Ethem from all defence related stuff and even not want him seen in my country..

Altay lacks autoloader but that was intentionally wanted by our military

What I personally think altay needs is akkor and a bigger gun

I do not know but it should be able to start some small drones, have our drone and people recognizing radars

Else it is a very solid Tank it does not lack much

I differ of opinion

It is not about Otokar or FNSS taking the project or that I have a preference between any of our companies but it is about professionalism.

If either Otokar or FNSS had taken the project they would have made sure the engine deliveries with a contract (or let MTU pay enormous fines)

BMC relied on Rheinmetall and their RBSS joint venture and did not make any contractual binding with MTU on engines, result it fucked up the whole project. Just far from professionalism, bad management.

Yes we can blame the Germans, but look also on the fails of our own companies

İ dont get it..
first we had small batch of powerpack for initial production but somehow thats still years away?
They said korean powerpack wouldnt work but still bought it and if it works the integration would take years??

what is our total tank inventory and whats been updated so far?
which of those are capable nowadays? İ feel like our only decent tanks are 150x sabras amk

A breakthrough is made regarding the national transmission of Altay tank powerpack. The national engine is coupled with the national transmission(there were some problems with transmission) and if all goes well integration of the national powerpack into the Altay tank will probably start by the end of this year.

I was writing a new article about this, but I forgot to tell you about it 😅

South Korea's Defense Ministry and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration have never officially mentioned that the improved EST15K transmission has passed the 9,600 km mobility endurance test, but in December last year, a senior official at SNT Dynamics, a transmission developer, officially announced that it will re-participation the EST15K transmission's NATO qualification test and mobility endurance test to be held by the South Korean Ministry of Defense in the first half of 2022.

At the end of last year, SNT Dynamics replaced three German parts used for EST15K transmission with Korean parts, so there will probably be no friction with Germany when exporting Korean power packs to Turkey.

I think the Korean transmission imported from Turkey now has passed NATO's mobility endurance test. If the Korean transmission that corrected the defect did not pass the mobility endurance test, the process of integrating Altay's power pack could not proceed this quickly.

At this point, I consider the Korean transmission to have passed the NATO qualification test and mobility endurance test (9600 km durability test).

A total of three tests must be performed until the engine and transmission are fully integrated into the tank. First, we will check whether there are any problems with the outside and inside of the engine and transmission, and second, Altay equipped with Korean power packs will conduct NATO's qualification test and mobility endurance test.

This test requires the engine and transmission to operate for 400 and 320 hours, respectively, followed by a mobility endurance test more than 9,600 km. (If a Korean transmission passed the NATO qualification test and mobility endurance test, this process is likely to be omitted.)

If pass this test, it can officially consider the integration of the powerpack completed, but this is not the end. If the last mass-produced Altay passes the 3,200 km mobility endurance test, it will be able to produce Altay integrated with a Korean power pack. (The 3200 km mobility endurance test is one of the processes that M1 abrams, Leopard 2 and K2 went through before production.)

I think the process of integrating Korean power packs into Altay will proceed without any problems.

Turkey wants to buy up to 100 South Korean tank engines​


ANKARA, Turkey — Turkey is negotiating the purchase of up to 100 South Korean-made engines and transmissions to power its first indigenous tank in the making, the Altay.

Turkey’s top defense procurement official, Ismail Demir, said negotiations with two South Korean companies are focused on the quantity of power packs (which the engine and transmission make up) that would be supplied for the Altay program.

“We must set a quantity,” Demir said. “We are talking about 50 to 100.”

He added that an agreed quantity would be followed by setting a price. Turkey, he explained, wants to ensure the Altay has enough foreign-made power packs while the country makes its own version, dubbed Batu, to power the tanks.

“[The Korean solution] has components supplied from abroad [non-Korean sources]. We want to produce those locally for the Batu program,” Demir said.

In October, Turkey and South Korea signed a letter of intent under which two Korean companies would supply engines and transmission mechanisms for the Altay. Turkish armored vehicles manufacturer BMC, which makes the Altay, has been negotiating strategic agreements with two South Korean companies for joint work on a power pack for the new tank.

Doosan and S&T Dynamics were expected to supply the know-how for the engine and transmission mechanism so the power pack could be co-produced in Turkey. However, the co-production option did not go ahead as planned, and it appears Turkey will execute an off-the-shelf acquisition of the Korean power pack, Turkish sources said.

Under the Altay tank deal, the South Korean companies will supply the power pack and assist with integrating it into the new-generation tank. A test phase will follow. If all goes well, the Altays may be powered by the two firms within 18 months.

BMC won the multibillion-dollar Altay contract in November 2018. The contract involves the production of an initial batch of 250 units, life-cycle logistical support, and the establishment by the contractor of a tank systems technology center and its operation. As part of the contract, BMC will design, develop and produce a tank with an unmanned fire control unit.

The Altay program is broken into two phases: T1 and T2. T1 covers the first 250 units, and T2 involves the advanced version of the tank. Turkey plans to eventually produce 1,000 Altays, to be followed by an unmanned version.

I don't think we are producing 1000 Altay. We will probably produce 250 pieces and move to a better design. Producing 1000 Altay is useless.

and Expensive...

The Turkish Land Forces are lacking modern Equipment.

- Firtina II is still produced like 6 per Year.
- Wheeled Howitzer isn't anywhere to be seen.
- YNHZA 1100 Vehicles, 8x8s and 6x6s.
- Tracked AV 1800 Vehicles.

I don't think there is enough Budget for 1000 Tanks. That would be ridiculous.
