New details on MILGEM warship exports to Malaysia
Malaysia is preparing to procure three MILGEM ADA Class Corvettes from Turkey as part of the LMS Batch II Program, in the first phase and eight in the final phase. The contract could allegedly be signed in the first half of this year.
As part of the Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) Batch II Procurement Program, Malaysia will procure three corvettes in the first phase. At a time when Malaysia was evaluating MİLGEM ADA Class Corvettes for the LMS Batch II Program, STM signed a goodwill agreement with the Technology Depository Agency Berhad (Malaysia-TDA) in May 2023, including technology transfer in the field of military maritime.
According to Defence Security Asia, STM is expected to be selected as the 'prime contractor' for the Royal Malaysian Navy's LMS Batch II Program. The project, in which three Littoral Task Ships will be procured with a budget of more than 400 million dollars in the first phase, is being carried out through a 'Government-to-Government (G2G) Agreement'.
The contract for the construction of 3 LMS Batch II ships is expected to be signed this year, and a decision is expected to be taken for the construction of 5 more ships during the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030). Thus, by 2030, the Malaysian Navy will have 8 Littoral Task Ships based on the MİLGEM ADA Class Corvette design.
