Forest fires all around are burning Turkey's lungs. Thousands of hectares of land have been burning down for days. There are forests that have entered their 7th day but still cannot be extinguished.
The most controversial agenda of this process is the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK).
The planes waiting in the hangar, the attitude of the Ministry of Forestry towards THY planes, the forests that continue to burn...
How did THK, one of Turkey's most established institutions, come to this? How could THK, which even intervened in the fires of other countries from Greece to Israel in the past years, could not fly planes? Or their planes have become doomed to hangars?
Saygı Öztürk shared some interesting details about the recent past of THK, which was handed over to the trustee in 2019, in his column in Sözcü.

"During Sadettin Tantan's term as the Ministry of Interior, investigations were launched on information regarding corruption in the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK), these were pursued with determination, and some of the managers were changed.
While long-established associations freed from corruption were working in line with their founding goals, THK's monopoly on sacrificial skin collection was abolished during Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's prime ministership.
THK, which the citizens trust and donate, has also entered into new breakthroughs without the need for the victim's skin. The aviation company was participating in the tenders of the General Directorate of Forestry. After THK company could not participate in the tender, the specification was prepared. Gradually, the balance was broken. The existing properties were then sold. After the appointment of the AKP trustee, THK administrations were dismissed, especially in areas where THK's valuable lands were located, and those who did not have a membership for even a day were brought to the THK administration. People in that region know what it means.
RELIEF SAVE
Former MHP Deputy, retired general Kürşat Atılgan, was appointed to the THK administration. During the Enterprise period, Sezgin Baran Korkmaz was also taken by the administration. Kürşat Pasha stated that when he left the post in 2018, he left 1 million dollars for the maintenance of the aircraft. In other words, when their maintenance was done, THK's 6 aircraft would be used to extinguish the fire. But it was not taken care of. The two administrations make different claims about the money left or not. Well, if our forests have been blazingly burned today, it is clear that the previous administrations, especially the AKP trustee, were negligent. Retired general Bertan Nogaylaroğlu, to whom Kürşat Atılgan transferred the management, had a comprehensive research done on previous periods. He filed a criminal complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office on 22 different issues. I quote from what he said to his close circle:

ALLEGED THK'S EXTRA PRICE OFFER
There is a claim that the THK administration did not take the tender because it gave a high price. So what is the truth of this? I listen to him from a manager of the period who knows these issues closely:

The fact that the General Directorate of Forestry was excluded from the fire extinguishing tender was a significant blow to THK. The Chairman requested an inspector from the Ministry of Interior to reveal the corruption. There were also people from the Presidency State Supervisory Board who came and did research.
ALLEGED '1 MILLION MAINTENANCE MONEY' AND LOST DOCUMENTS
Due to the vacancy in the administration, Bertan Pasha requested the appointment of a trustee of three, specifying their names.
Bertan Pasha, who took office in October 2018, left in October 2019. Some officials I spoke with state that the words of the previous president, “I left 1 million dollars for the maintenance of the planes” do not reflect the truth. Bertan Nogaylaroğlu's words are also unforgettable:
“I activated our potential for debt restructuring with a plan. We would never sell one square meter of our land to anyone. We made a decision to purchase 80 buildings that were sold before us. 14 people worked in two separate groups on corruption allegations. But we encountered such a picture that corruption documents were stolen and THK was emptied. Imagine, they stole the documents and destroyed them. If we're going to blame, let's blame ourselves first. My trustee has faults too. The General Directorate of Forestry could have bought the planes, but they did not. I did not have time to implement my 5-year plan.”
