During the ceremony, Admiral Margono said that the Trimaran was the first ship made of composite material which has the advantages of high specific strength, lighter weight, and has excellent fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, this ship can be used as a prototype trimaran ship, for development purpose.

According to a TNI AL statement, KRI Golok (688) has a total length (Loa) of 62.53 meters, a width of 16 meters, a ship height of 18.7 meters and a weight of 53.1 tons (ed. note: PT Lundin mentions a displacement of 245 tons). Maximum speed of 28 knots, cruising speed of 16 knots. The vessel is armed with 30 mm cannon and 12.7 mm gun and is capable of carrying 25 crew members.

Max speed 28 knots that's disappointing.
our navy satisfied enough with that speed, if prabowo not in charge as MoD then our navy still assume lots of kcr 60 will bring Chinese down to their knee :sigh:

I appreciate the development and construction of this ship, it can be used for patrol or surface combat, but the navy should not use this ship as their ace in the hole, they can order more of this ship but as supplementary unit, we should not only relying on FAC with hit and run tactic as our main combat forces.

Other than hit and run tactic we can use missile boat as missile carrier along with our future frigate and spam launch missiles against enemy fleet, FAC don't have adequate missile defence but at least they can contribute with carrying and firing missile while being protected by frigates.

If the top speed is only 28 knots, the tank boat with missiles is even faster than this trimaran FAC.

Anyway... This got me thinking:

Surely you need a really fast boat to do that.

I'm not holding my breath for the real performance of KRI Golok to actually match what was once told: 50 knots. But the design of the ship, its displacement as well as its engines and its propulsion systems, all should make it more than capable of reaching a speed in excess of 30 knots.

During the ceremony, Admiral Margono said that the Trimaran was the first ship made of composite material which has the advantages of high specific strength, lighter weight, and has excellent fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance. Ahahah, diesel?

With chinese made ciws and ssm

In time you guys talk about the speed the armament would be installed in Golok still in secrecy.

Behold for "membagongkan" moment for the boat armament 🤣

Oh, this boat is made somehow from carbon and plastic, so please dont make your hope for this boat to do ramming stuff. 🤣

Flies away.

For the speed lets wait for an official statement from PT Lundin. Even the media before reported the Tank Boat speed is at max 40 knots but actually it is max 50 knots as mentioned in Tank Boat official video and North Sea Boats FB.

I'm waiting and hoping for PT Lundin (North Sea Boats) release an official video of KRI Golok with its specification like what they did with the X18 Tank Boat videos after its launching.

I remembered that most everyone in here were questioning its speed of max 40 knots from media reports.

See this boxy structure in the ship's aft section? The one marked with a red circle?

View attachment 29279

That's the place on both sides of the ship for two or four AShM embedded inside that section. On top of the superstructure just ahead the ship's mast, either a 40 mm or a 30 mm cannon will be installed there - I'm assuming that it will be encased within a special housing.

there should be an exhaust system in the back which is not present I think.

An official brochure. Note this was an official brochure of a new redesigned Trimaran from PT Lundin when PT Lundin and Saab were still collaborating together. Max speed is 50 knots.

Btw anyone knows why Lundin and Saab broke up their collaboration? Since Saab collab with Lundin i saw alot of changes in the design. And now Lundin is using back the original design for KRI Golok.

Diesels do not explain that, there are companies using purely diesel and reaching 55+ (some claims 60) knots with double tonnage and similar length.
Probably not sufficient amount of diesels, and moreover they have to use waterjet for some reason which doesn't make sense for that speed.
Imo if space is preserved they can add engines and additional waterjets in booster configuration to boost the speed.
Nonetheless the boat is launched and will be used at least, if someone does not abuse it we can expect at least 5 years of experimenting, before seeing a mass production/order.

The idea here is to build something (whatever that is) that is sellable politically. It's all about creating as many jobs as possible and PR campaign, rather than to provide the end-user with an operationally capable asset. Meaning, it doesn't matter f the boat is powered by traditional sail and made from wood, as long it can be sold to the politician and public as some kind of top of the line tech

it's all about the aggregate horsepower. not the type of propulsion I guess.

I kinda agree with Mr.Alex here.

I think they need to increase the max speed to about 40+ knots, if not this is just a glorified KCR-60.

and a whole lot more sophisticated electronics compared to a KCR-60.
Ofcourse he will say that based on what he was reading from that news.

Excerpt:

"According to a TNI AL statement, KRI Golok (688) has a total length (Loa) of 62.53 meters, a width of 16 meters, a ship height of 18.7 meters and a weight of 53.1 tons (ed. note: PT Lundin mentions a displacement of 245 tons). ^^ It doesn't even mentioned about any missiles. Only cannon and gun.

Anyway here is an official spec from PT Lundin brochure from my previous post above. Its from Putut Reza twitter.

Like i said before better we wait for an official spec from PT Lundin. Saw an article from Naval News where the sources of the news even came from Defense Studies blog.

If i have slightest idea about this, a 50 knots going vessel will not be bound to DNV patrol boat but to high speed boat rules.

+ Is there any missile bays in the launched one, i can't see it and the rear side seems to be constructed intact with no doors left for missile exhaust. Imo they will hang around with the guns for now and use it as a patrol boat.

+ Dont worry about the speed stuff and live the moment, this is the first composite trimaran in the world*, its hull definitely made for high speeds and by using waterjets it is only matter of adding additional engines or waterjets to top the speed. This is something rather experimental, proof of concept to convince the operator. Nobody expects or asks them to launch a fully capable one, neither navy would use it in actual operationd if they did.

*That is in service of a naval forces.

This was what i have implied, after all it is about how much you can install and how much of that installed power effectively transferred to water.
Also gas turbines known to loose their efficiency as the ambient temperature gets high, diesels are more preferable in hot climates.
