Tayfun aka Bora 2 is the continuation of Bora. The missile is similar to Bora in weight and dimensions and carries a similar warhead to roughly double the range of Bora(280km official, 360km proved). I don't want to quote the exact maximum range as it is not released but it is somewhere between 700-800km. Tayfun can reach 1000km with a lighter warhead exchanged for more fuel. Tayfun comes with different guidance options(including but not limited to carrier killer variant) and the trucks that can carry Bora can also carry Tayfun so every Bora launcher is also a Tayfun launcher. This is not a test launch Tayfun is currently in the inventory with a good number of missiles have already been delivered. It went unnoticed due to its secrecy and its similarity to the Bora missile. İstanbul to Atina is roughly 561km, from İzmir a 561km arc covers all of the Greek mainland, 561 is more than double the official range of the Bora missile (280*2+1 that +1 has a big meaning) This test shenanigan is done intentionally to give Greece a huge warning.

I think the most strategic aspect of the missile is that it is very well packaged and can still be fired from a tactical truck. Hence its propulsion design need attention. I believe that one of the most important issues in missiles under 1000 km is about mobility and maintenance. Precision strike is of course a big plus factor, but keeping these batteries constantly active in case of a possible war is a much bigger plus.

The specific features and weight of the warhead on it will probably never be disclosed and it is not an export product anyway. We can say that if we can produce this missile with a large numbers that can saturate all air bases and strategic facilities at the same time, we have gained another big X factor.
TAF has 3 layers/levels when it plans military operations. Strategic(Stratejik most of the time major general and higher), operational (Operatif most of the time major general to colonel) and tactic(taktik most of the time colonel and lower).
Yeah, it is the logic behind that. It is a strategic weapon but it can be deployed operationally.
Similar logic also makes its way to lower parts of the military ecosystem. For example, Çakır or Kuzgun is an operational weapon but it can be deployed tactically which means a USV can carry Çakır or Kuzgun even though it is deployed on a tactical level it can cause an effect at an operational level.
Tayfun is similar. A general at the operational level can call a Tayfun strike and can cause strategic effect on the war.
TB2 is a tactical asset but we saw many times that it can cause an operational-level effect on the enemy.

Flew 458sec and hit target 561 km.

guess 8 min means it can go further @Yasar 😃
With a diameter of 600mm to achieve long range you need to extend the length of the missile if you can’t improve fuel quality and also decrease weight of the actual missile.
We know that Roketsan has been improving fuel quality and use of composite materials has improved weight deficit of these missiles. The current missile doesn’t look too long. It can’t be as it is using a Bora launcher.
Iranians have 700km range 600mm diameter missiles. Although we were coming from behind in missile tech when compared to Iranians, we have since, reached a very high level of technical expertise. And this missile is the culmination of all the work our engineers have put in to practice. Therefore it is logical to expect a range at least as much with the Tayfun.
458 seconds is just 22 seconds short of 8 minutes. This was done on purpose to give a message. Also you never show all your cards. There has to be quite a bit more in the range we haven’t disclosed yet.

This means that if the greek embarks on an adventure and is the first to attack, their aircrafts will not be able to find a base to land.

"The Tayfun Ballistic missile, which I first announced in 2019 at SAKFOR with the phrase "Typhoon after Bora", was disclosed for the first time today. For its range, let's say 550+ km, but you are free to understand as 850 km."
Tayfun Erdil's opinion (who is known as Harzemşah in Turkish forums) on about Tayfun's flight range.

I'm currently looking at the early reflects on greek social media while drinking tea. lol. Probably It won't take long for them to understand the what is 561. On the other hand, In the new reality that has emerged in the Greek issue, just as our interlocutor in Syria is Russia, our interlocutor in the Greek issue is beginning to become the USA. By scaring the Greeks, we pave the way for the US to invade the Greek lands for its own interests.

edit 2:
We have a habit of disclosing the ballistic and artillery missiles not in their start of production phase but years later, and if we look at Malpsoy's reminder, the situation may not be different for Tayfun. The news is from 2012 and the prime minister has a dialogue with the CHP group vice president: "These have a range of 800 km, we will increase their range to 2500 km."

At some point Greeks will realize that maximalist claims only serve foreign interests and not of Greeks' and stop risking their security for the benefit of foreigners.

"Function is important, not the size"
The important thing is what is aimed with the operation. In this respect, the capabilities in the inventory are just a carpentry tool. How you shape the field is directly proportional to your possibilities and vision.

We're talking about a Turkiye that will send a 1.35m diameter rocket with a payload of around 100kg to an altitude of over 300km in 2023 and this will be just an exercise for next target to be achieved within 3-4 years. (400kg payload to 550/600km altitude)
For Turkiye, ranges in those scale should not be surprising for ballistic missiles anymore.

What is the maximum range for a missile we can test in Turkey without flying over cities? Supposing the missiles range is several thousand kilometers, where would we even test it?

There is no such limitation in reality. You don't need to test a 10.000 km missile by hitting a target 10.000km away. Instead you can test a really high apogee that would correspond to target being 10.000 km away.

Tayfun serial production contract is signed in 2018 and Tayfun is delivered for the first time in 2019. The R&D phase is of course older than this. The next iteration will have a bigger diameter and more launch weight.

As soon as we bring these strategic strike capabilities that near hypersonic speeds with TBM, LACM etc. to submarine platforms, we will be another member of the top league.

"BORA II's new name is TAYFUN. Minister of National Defense CANİKLİ, in a statement to the press on April 26, 2018, said, “Our completely national missile with a range of 280 km is BORA I, and has entered the inventory. Now we are working on BORA II, which has more advanced technology and longer range,” he said, and added that work has been started for BORA II. In the continuation of his words, "If I explain the details, you would forget the election. We will explain it in the future." BORA II, which is expected to have a range of 500km+, can have a different type of guidance system and can also be use against surface platforms."

Another reminder from İbrahim Sünnetçi. Although the program is currently disclosed to open sources, people are still wary of the subject and tend to back up what they have to say from open sources. :)

They can't believe it really happened.

You guys remember discussions of whether the main bulkhead of the TFX can be made with domestic means or not, likewise now there is no talk about it anymore.

Is there anyone to draw a hypothetical border at an average distance of 800 km from the Turkish borders?

Just speculating: it may have landed near Sinop, becase telemetry devices are located in the Sinop test facility and they have intended to observe behaviour in terminal stage, maybe maneuvering. They could also test it from Sinop to Rize if they were interested in launch characteristics, however it was vice-versa.

With all the things known, this doesn't seem like a test, not much protection for ground crew, no effort to conceal the launcher, no markings on launcher etc.

Seems like this was a show off, perfectly planned, with "leak"s and a number of 561 with so many meanings.

Maybe this is a sign of more complex missiles
