Either it has been tested and found to be the exact tested range; or someone is being facetious. Why else would you give such accurate and/or specific range information?
According to Murat İkinci, the missile’s motor is ready. It is due for test firings shortly.
First one is more likely. No one of us know the exact range, but it is assumed that the real range is way longer. My guess 200-220km.

Interesting about the Roketsan’s Gokbora missiles’s range being 185.2 km.

It would be interesting to see how it will compare to the Meteor on the Typhoons we are purchasing.

The Gokbora is to have an Aesa seeker head. This is ahead of the current Meteor specs. New Meteor to be developed is envisaged to have an Aesa seeker.

As well as being used by Kaan and Ozgur f16, it will be one of the basic weapons of the KE too.
It is the same range given when the missile first debuted. 100 nm which equals exactly 185.2 kilometers. They usually round down for brochures but someone probably converted it directly and forgot to round it

Roketsan has updated the maximum range of Mam-L IIR smart bomb (Umtas missile sans rocket and with an IIR seeker) from 25 km to 40 km.
This puts the munition’s max range at the limit of most medium range Air Defence Systems. Gives better coverage to UCAVs carrying it.

IIR seeker will be a more expensive option. But nevertheless it‘s new range advantage can’t be pushed aside, when you think that standard Mam-L had a range around 8-16km.

I wonder how they managed to achieve such a significant increase in range.
Considering that this is a non-motorized munition, several options are possible:

1. Platform speed;
2. Platform altitude;
3. Reducing the weight of the glider;
4. Extending the wings.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same MAM-L with a range of 8 km. Later, it was increased to 14 km. Now it's 40 km.
That's a fivefold increase!

Yeah, the good question would be to know if this IIR MAM-L can reach those ranges if launched from a standard TB-2, or if it’s only launched from more powerful plateforms, such as the Akinci and Aksungur ?

It is a matter of aerodynamics and all the above you mention.

With a laser seeker head it‘s maximum range was essentially limited by the laser head performance. With an IIR seeker head that constraint has been lifted.
But like any free falling bomb, it’s speed and range is governed by it’s weight and it’s aerodynamic surfaces.
Of course it’s altitude from which it is released plays a major part as well. The higher the altitude the longer it will travel.
It’s surface material and drag coefficient is important too.
Initial release velocity, if being accomplished in rarified atmospheric conditions, will have a significant effect on the range as well.

Just to give you an idea:

Summary Of Factors Affecting Range for JDAM :

Technique MethodRange Impact
High Alt ReleaseReleased from 40k+ feetHigh (initial potential energy)
Toss/LoftReleased during climbHigh (adds forward momentum)
Wing Kit (ER)Unfolding wingsUp to 300-400% increase
Guidance ControlSteerable fins optimize glideImproves precision

Aerodynamic Wing Control for glide efficiency is very important.

Our officials either needs to stop lying or learn what serial production is. They have been saying Tayfun serial production is already ongoing since 2023 and now they announce that "they have started serial production of many new missile systems like tayfun and akata in 2025". So which one is it?

They should lie if they want to, it is part of the power game to look bigger than you are.

However Tayfun is not just one missile, it has 4 types as of now. Most likely the early versions are already way past being stocked up while the latest versions are just entering production.

''TAYFUNún seri üretimleri devam ediyor''

What does the above tell you?

When a factory or a new production line is set up, there is a notion called Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) that is put in to motion.
This allows the factory to weigh the eco system that is set up to produce the product and iron out imperfections within the production line and the supply chain to provide unbroken supply line.

As well as this, there is going to be a family of missiles in the Tayfun range. So to get all parameters correct and in place will have taken time. There is nothing untoward that in the statements made by the officials.
