TN had a high speed requirement on Ada-Class and CODAG was the most suitable solution considering the size limitations on the ship, both fitting into beam + deck height and not occupying excessive volume, allowing designers to fit more equipments and features into the hull.

I have posted in another thread about the propulsion system on Ada-Class and how compact it is in fact, as compact as something gets it becomes rigid and less flexible in design.

It is Diesel + Diesel in the end :). A portion of Diesels are directly driving the propeller, the rest is Gen-Set driving the electric Motors.

Now i wonder, are they getting CODELOD from MAN or MTU?

This protrusion that's hosting the Yalman missile launcher is annoying. Feel like it should host something little more beefy, maybe future modernisations that space could be utilised for RAM type point defence missile system.

On the back-end sounds same to me ;).

And maybe they can extend that elevated deck up to the boards and offer 2 x additional spot either for 2 Yalman or 2 more RCWS, or even 3 like 2 x RCWS + 1 Yalman in the middle.

Or maybe that 35mm MP gun platform?

This is not a big problem for us as Blacksea, Sea of islands and Mediterranean are obviously smaller than Pacific, Atlantic or the Indian Ocean. Total underwater time is less important. Arguably a Turkish Li-Ion U-214TN can be better than a German AIP U-214 under those circumstances. We should design the bigger MILDEN for oceans with the AIP+Li-Ion combo.
In addition to our posts , let me introduce the TAIGEI Class submarines of Japan.
This class was built with tech taken and progressed from last 2 Söryu class submarines with Li-Ion batteries. They can, after nuclear submarines, stay submerged longest among all other conventional subs.
This is the way forward. Not AIP, where we will become Germany’s plaything.

CODELOD is a naval propulsion system in which an electric motor and a diesel engine act on a single propeller.
CODAD is a naval propulsion system for ships using two Diesel engines to power a single propeller shaft.

It seems that no new extensions have been given and all relevant companies and ship builders have forwarded their tender letters to the SSB on 8th April 2022 for the 6th, 7th and 8th ships of the Milgem project which will be the next 3 ships of the Istanbul class frigates.

To clarify, this doesn't mean we will have 8 Istanbul class frigates, it's going off numbers based on the MILGEM project

Akya will be (or already) have been integrated to MUREN CMS. 2 Ay Class submarines were upgraded with MUREN CMS and will be able to launch AKYA HWT after the upgrade.

Tübitak has produced and qualified PZT ceramic modules for first ship of the Istanbul Class Frigates. The wet-end was integrated to the ship and preliminary tests were completed successfully in Pendik Naval Shipyard (ITK).

Tübitak's MAM branch has completed production of sonar wet-end module for the first hull of the Barbaros MLU project, Factory acceptance tests have been carried out successfully. The module is awaiting for ship's drydocking.

For 2nd hull, the wet-module production is completed mostly.

MUREN CMS integration for first hull of Preveze MLU project continues. FAT has been carried out succesfully and the units were delivered to Gölcük Naval Shipyard, awaiting for harbor acceptance tests and sea trials.

I was hoping that maybe at some point, 35mm GOKER might be swapped in for the 30mm SMASH. But, it looks very tight on those RCWS platforms

I believe that all ada class will be upgraded with 16 VLS behind ASM area like this OPV

let's see if istanbul class will make it to 32 VLS , because if you can afford 2x4 VLS for 10 OPV , then sure you can afford extra 1X16 for all 4 istanbul class . otherwise it does not make any sense unless that decision is driven by technicality not cost

The question is, whether or not those OPVs will be launched into service heavy on weaponry, as the initial plan was to procure the boats, almost bare, install optional systems in case of elevated threat. There was quite a bit of discussion on this going through the previous posts. The rational way is to go along the route you have outlined, the idea of “arming when and if necessary” is just a lame excuse to say we have revoked budget privileges! But at the end, it all boils down to priorities of decision makers (sends chills down the spine!).

And with such pressure build up in our seas, arming up is no longer a matter of “options”, but a “must” to at least maintain navy’s deterrence!

That forward-facing gun looks really cramped in its alcove. Can it even raise barrel sufficiently to protect against forward-sector missiles that aren't sea-skimming?

It does, doesn't it - perhaps we may see some modifications after some firing trials ?

Could it be a purpose design to annihilate surface threats (i.e, special forces, small-scale combatants) approaching from the bow (as wepons on either side do not seem to cover the area before the colossal bow)?

Those VLSs you see on OPV are just single-cell small VLSs. They are the same as the launch vehicle of the land-based Hisars. This way we can cheaply and easily integrate Hisar SAM into the OPV. There is probably more space around that area for another eight similar VLS for a possible future upgrade. Despite its weapons load, that ship is a cost-effective solution.
