Datum mainly has one single project and it is to make a multi-purpose manned mini submarine (And i find their goals highly suitable, realizable and achievable by a start-up of given size). However, they were not able to acquire a fund to accomplish this earlier, the CEO has had the dream for a decade and worked on conceptual design(s), maturing over the time with his colleagues and on his own nearly by self-funding. The company is more or less about the founder - CEO and few colleagues of him. He preferred to keep a low profile since he has got the project and funds, as you might know why, If you are living in TR and got such a fund, there would be a herd of vultures trying to rip off the budget (for no reason they would place obstacles and then ask for some -help- to ease the burden of passing through). I believe, after accomplish certain goals and assuring his position in 'capability' to the higher ups, the company will have more information in the website and continue to work on other designs.
That makes sense, and yes I unfortunately know those kinds of vultures through some friends that worked in defence industry. I also like their singular focus, rather than a scatter gun approach to try to get funding, and hopefully they'll be successful. A mini submarine that could be launched from a single truck is a very interesting concept. It was just weird being able to find CEO's deviantart page easier than information about his projects 😁

I am pretty sure they will have a decent reception in person, to disclose the project with details and update the website soon after that. :). Unlike many other start-ups in the field, they seem to be focusing on their first product before going too far with the concepts and promises. That is another reason why i find their model useful and appreciating the approach.

Just to keep the thread neat, i shall remind these threads to not clutter;

Naval programs related news goes in current thread.

Images regarding to the platforms (unless containing a new information wrt. the program) go here;
Navy thread

Unmanned programs go here;
Unmanned surface / underwater vessels

Torpedoes et al. go here (unless otherwise related to a naval program);
Torpedoes thread

Missiles may go here in the current thread, or in the missiles thread. However, if it is not a platform related missile system that will be inducted by Navy, then it better suits in;
Missiles and munitions

Conceptual works created by individuals are suiting here, eventhough it is referencing an on-going program, it will be in conceptual works thread;
Concepts-renders-photo edits and any related discussion

Finally, conceptual works created by companies for exports or the "ideas", unless related to an actual program / tender go here;
Concepts and technology demonstrators

Lastly, you may feel to create a thread under Turkish Navy section if the content is fitting to neither, or wanting to discuss particularly on a certain design, MLU etc. kind of processes. Like i did when i noticed FAC-FIC designs are available enmasse and suiting better to be separated, eventhough fitting in "Concepts and technology demonstrators" thread.
Example thread, FAC-FIC

These are not tight rules, as the diffusion between threads is expected. But we better keep it in mind if it is to escalate and occupy pages of discussion that actually is related to another thread.

Within the scope of the Multi-Purpose Mini Submarine Development Project carried out by DATUM; In order to gain experience before producing the 12-meter submarine, a resistant boat test piece with a length of 2 meters and a diameter of 1.5 meters, in which the production methods on ÇAMD were tested,

A test dive was made off the coast of İğneada on July 11, 2023. The system, which was tested for 45 minutes at 400 meters, successfully completed the test. After the successful test, the production of the 12-meter boat started.

The design specs revealed the maximum depth as 300 meters.

Told y'all. It is under construction, In a few weeks the company is expected to hold an event to present the progress.

Primarily a test submarine, technology demonstator and base for future unmanned submarines as a working mini-sub platform. However, it requires decent amount of workmanship to transform into a military product, as is - it offers quite a good start. It is a great capability and know-how to be acquired by a start-up.

Double hull (FRP outer hull, steel inner hull), 2 foldable periscope configuration, 2 torpedoes (for tests), electric submarine, 4 crew (2 operator, 2 test team).

And now we learn that the sectional hull test were achieved at 400 meters!
I hate to repeat myself but the depth is impressive. This mini sub has more stamina than it should need really.

@Anmdt information started dripping already. So, they started the construction some time in July or August. I wonder how long it'd take to build a submarine that small.

They started construction earlier (for the actual pressure hull as well). However, there is a learning curve and remarks in the process. The test was necessary both to show that pressure hull manufacturer was up to a certain quality, and the design parameters were fit. This is the main case of building a test section in submarine projects, however DATUM has not made a test section but scaled down test-model for measurements.
The design specs revealed the maximum depth as 300 meters.

Smaller it goes, easier to build (tolerances, welding distortions) and more resistant to pressure (exponentially) it gets. STM's pressure hull will be more challenging because of the diameter, MILDENs will be the most. But expertise and tolerances and construction techniques also vary between the builders. With a little modification this mini sub may hit 500 meters, or even be certified for 750 meters.

I wonder if we could turn this into an unmanned deep sea surveillance submarine. Even if we can't get the information right away, if it could gather information passively we could learn a lot.

These are still baby steps, but this submarine can be improved further into any role with more capabilities, depending on the advances in other fields and thus companies ,(Aselsan, Meteksan etc.) and academic institutions.

I wonder if it's possible to make a sort of grid network of stationary, passive sensors underwater. Cover strategic areas with the network, maybe gain real time info primarily for ASW.

Americans really went all in on that one didn't they...

That's too expensive though. I thought of someting that is anchored, stays underwater and listens. It would have a connection with a hardly detectable surface buoy. Buoy has generator and it transfers energy to the sonar below. Buoy is also connected to central network.

The point is it needs to be produced in numbers. It doesn't have to be a technological marvel. We are in the mediterranean after all, it's not the Pacific. Being in a lot of places simultaneously is the issue. Americans went for the overkill as always, maybe because they aim to stop nuclear subs.

And to top it off, it can be aerially inserted if it's that simple.

I know you are looking for a network of passive sensor solution but there is this

The UÇA air launched mine which will have Underwater Acoustic IFF (Friend-Foe Identification) System, will have pressure, vibration, magnetic anomaly and acoustic sensors. UÇA wing assisted air launched smart mine was developed thanks to experience and technology gained from smart Malaman mine program. Launching trials start in the end of this year.

The MALAMAN Project was signed in December 2011 to meet the needs of the Turkish Navy’s bottom mines and make Turkish territorial waters safer.
The mine lies on the seafloor. It can classify ships and submarines passing over with the help of three different sensors: magnetic, acoustic and pressure. While the mine will be safe for friendly units, it will be ready to trigger against enemy units.

Due to the working architecture of such systems, the data received from all sensor units are blended into a single data, then this data is compared with the data in the memory unit, and if there is no match, the mine will discharge pressurised CO2 gas, which acts as propulsion + rudder. It approaches the target. Although it can operate in deep waters, it will also have the ability to operate in partially shallow waters such as the Aegean and the Black Sea.
TÜBİTAK-SAGE General Manager Gürcan Okumuş stated in an interview that system-level verifications would be completed in 2023,

UÇA air launched mine is an active weapon system, however, it essentially sits at the bottom of ocean, pick traces of vessels above the surface through its multiple sensors and after a real time IFF process, it discharges or sits still at the bottom.

I Was wondering; could it be dropped under the water in numbers (warheads replaced with more sensors) and create grids, like you suggested, and create civil purposes/missions as well as military use?

Current developments indicate that we will enter a period of rapid product development and testing for SDVs, UUVs of various types and missions, and coastal type midget*(I mean high-tech anti-surface/underwater platforms not steel dump) submarines. When it comes to SDVs and UUVs equipped with qualified and modern systems, I foresee that there will be significant needs in the world's navies in the coming period, and I am of the opinion that we will create our own story in this field, just like we did with UAVs, and that we will see a serious demand from the world. In the Turkish shipbuilding industry and marine electronics, we have a workforce and capacity that cannot be underestimated. When you bring these together at the right time, in the right field and with the right model, success is inevitable.

Mutiple sources talking about Turkiye building Spain S 80 submarine under licence , if this is true than it will merge with Turkish Milden since they almost same as size of about 80 meters

Today, for some reason, multiple sources churning out multiple x.com news (or whatever they call the damn thing nowadays) from “reliable sources” without any news worthy content.
Honestly things don’t add up just when TR started the MILDEN project.
If you want other comments regarding this new “development “, you may want to check here

I don't believe this. It doesn't make any sense.

How reliable is this site`?

Maybe @Anmdt knows more.

I lost it at;

'Savunma kaynaklarindan alinan bilgi'

and

'DM2A4 and Sub Harpoon'.

The author has zero knowledge on how hard Navy works to master AKYA torpedoe and Sub-Atmaca, and intends to make these two and later others as striking force of submarine flotilla (and i don't need to emphasize integration of SEDA, Advent, etc.).

Use your common sense dear fellows, in bilateral meetings these things are spoken, then shifted to technical committees where its realized (and mostly it does not). But Spaniards are seen as one likely partner in Milden's detail design process.

We all know what Navy wants and S80 may not fit it to well unless Spaniards coming with all cards turned over with ToT and IP rights and to conduct any modification that TN may desire. It is simple, in long shot they desire to have all major components develop and made locally. (Periscope, permasync, sonar suite, CMS suite, comms, sensors and AIP - future Li-Ion.

Several companies attempted to infiltrate and influence decision makers prior to realization of Milgem by making offers (through such bilateral meetings held by higher ups) and forcing them to launch a tender and join with local partners. It is failed.

They attempted to make the same for I-Class, failed.

They also attempted the same with TF-2000, so far, failed.

And now Milden, it is failed or will fail. They will somehow notice that the most they are getting out of these projects are either being a subcontractor or component supplier.

Also this is truly an example of bad journalism where it lacks a reference to true mindset of TN by not referring to indigenous projects.
