What is the connection between Syria and the Iranian border/mine cleaning project?

People who didn't fought for their own country etc. will certainly not fight for your country.

Wrong.

They had a choice then, they could fled to Turkey.

In Turkey they have no choice. They can choose or way or the M5 highway to Damascus.

EU eyes deal with Turkey to counter migrant flows to Cyprus

The European Union is looking for ways to stem the flow of migrants from Turkey to Cyprus and EU nations when it holds high-level talks in Ankara next month, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson said Tuesday.

Johansson said, “it’s not impossible to find a way forward” on preventing migrants from leaving Turkey to reach the island because the number of migrants reaching Cyprus isn’t very large relative to the huge number of refugees which Turkey hosts. But she couldn't say what such a deal would look like.

Johansson said she wanted to learn firsthand the difficulties faced by divided Cyprus, which she said has the most asylum applications relative to its population when compared among EU nations. She also visited a migrant reception center on the outskirts of Nicosia (Lefkoşa).

“We have faced ... a lot of challenges in our relations with Turkey. Now, we are in a situation where these relations are ... being better," Johansson said after talks with the Greek Cypriot administration's Nicos Nouris.

Nouris said that since the start of the year, 7,000 out of 8,500 asylum applications have been rejected and that only 300 people have been repatriated because of an EU-wide policy “weakness."

The island of Cyprus has been mired in a decadeslong struggle between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, despite a series of diplomatic efforts by the U.N. to achieve a comprehensive settlement. Five decades of Cyprus talks have led nowhere.

The island has been divided since 1964, when ethnic attacks forced Turkish Cypriots to withdraw into enclaves for their safety. In 1974, a Greek Cypriot coup aiming at annexation by Greece led to Turkey's military intervention as a guarantor power. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was founded in 1983.

The Greek Cypriot administration, backed by Greece, became a member of the European Union in 2004, even though in a referendum that year most Greek Cypriots rejected a U.N. settlement plan that envisaged a reunited Cyprus joining the EU.

This is a bit of a grey zone. But I'm posting it here as I imagine that RTE is going to help EU by preventing refugees from burdening Christian Greek Cyprus, so they can continue their hate campaign.

Can you imagine how easy the refugees could tip the situation on GC side, 5-10.000 refugees a day or a week/month could burden them enough to make them recognize KKTC as a sovereign nation.

I feel like the only reason some EU countries are kind of benign towards Turkey is because of the refugee guard role.

If Turkey were to just straight up tell the entire EU to go f**k themselves, watch how quickly the mood changes. Countries like Hungary, Poland and Italy, for example, which are sort of "friendly" to Turkey would make a 180 virtually overnight. They are already not exactly buddies but now they wouldn't even have to pretend anymore because of the refugees.

So there might be some political calculations here. Not saying it's a good thing just making an observation.

RTE and AKP has cost Turkey a lot, but the burden of the refugees are worse.

I'd issue a recall to all retired arm forces personelle and ask them to return to duty for a time, and put a military plan in motion to derefugeefy Turkey. Once everything is set and internal security raised to max use the extra personelle to round up refugees outside of camps and deport them to Syria.

Once that begings, defund the camps and as more go outside the camps relocate them as planned.

When that happens most refugees will make it for EU. Those who are too weak to make it across to EU will be deported to Syria.

I'd keep the pressure up on GC and Greece.

GC is exposed as they're not capable of dumping refugees on Turkish islands like Greece. So keep the pressure up on BOTH.

Only people with IQ below the room temperatur would whitewash all this mess, not only the demographics messed which will be a problem in the future and also increase of internal conflicts, but most importantely the economy-debts, psychology of the people, foreign relations with European countries messed up. For what? American Imperialism and new border projects (BOP)?

Now you have only the option to send them back home because if you open the borders the mood in Europe will make a 180° overnight as above mentioned, and then prepare for economic sanctions and more. This whole weaponizing of refugees was executed so bad it's like losing a poker game with the best card possible in your hand and table.

Now they also talk about sending the refugees back but on the other side clear minefields on the Iranian border because a f*cking toilet paper was signed in Canada 17 years ago.

Country is literally being used as a refugee buffer zone for the EU. Neither the fact that Turkey agrees to it or the language used by the EU Comissioner is acceptable.

I don't understand why Iran would cooperate on such a thing. It's not in their interest. Plus I imagine they'll use the refugees like a pressuring tool of sorts. Considering how RTE is cornered and such.

They will not. Everything they say is bullshit. This is just a message within the diplomatic etiquette and they are repeating the same lies every time when there is a meeting on this level. This will be seen clearly when a new attack from the Iranian side of the border against our soldiers take place.

True, but I am curious as to how our people are going to hold Iran up on the cooperation.

I imagine joint borderpatrol and surveillance could be one way to do it. Meaning Iran's own borderpatrol won't be able to turn a blind eye and would have to take them back. Registering name, fingerprint, picture etc. could also be one way to create a database to document them being sent back to Iran and if they come again it's easy to prove they came from Iran.

Every country have the responsibility to control its borders and prevent illegal trespassing. Turkey is responsible for the Turkish side of the border and Iran for the Iranian side. There is no need for joint patrols. If everybody takes responsibility over his sector by investing in the required technology and intensify the patrol schedule of its personnel there will not be such problems but looks like someone don't want to do it just as in the case of PKK. PKK in order to cross from the north of Iraq to Iran, then attack our soldiers in Agri region and return have to cross trough territory under the supervision of Irani security personnel. If Iran wants not even bird could fly trough the border but this is not the case. Terrorism, smugglers of goods, refugees/traffickers. These are things that benefit Iran.

Joint initiatives like patrols require the full cooperation and coordination between the different ministries and services of the two countries and that requires mutual interest to be involved which is not the case. When it comes to the Turkey-Iran relations everything is temporary. So temporary that one day they bomb Kandil in a coordinated operation with the Turkish Armed Forces and the next day we hear from the same man that went for that meeting that the top leaders of PKK are hiding on the Iranian side of the Kandil mountain. Iran is not a reliable partner for Turkey.

Latest Eu report targets Turkey.

I think Turkey should rip the deal up and open the gates. Let it be open season.

Migration is a human right. Let humans go to any place they desire.

Turkey should not feel the need to keep people against their will.

Australia has strict border control LOL

We even have detention centres which the world condemns.

Turkey should rip the eu deal.

Easy when you're an island. Turkey has land borders with Iran, Syria and Iraq. The land border with Bulgaria and Greece is walled and closed and has Frontex on top of it. And the sea route is more or less shut too.

Frontex faces some funding cuts because of their push backs, that might be an opening for more refugees to leave but frankly speaking most of them will probably stay even if.

Honestly, if the EU doesnt give what they promised to Turkey; then the Turks should give guns to the refugees so that they ensure their safety through EU
Turkey has a decent stash of PKK weapons. Who knows? Maybe EU will stop arming the EU, if their own ppl are killed with such weapons by the hand of refugees storming Europe
