Any reason Turkiye cannot buy them from the producers?
It depends. We can buy directly from manufacturers right now but in a conflict, who knows? One thing is certain, we want independence but no country cant stand alone much longer. We need allies, best way to do is high profile defence agreements. Besides, we have what they dont have, they have what we dont have. None of our interests conflict with theirs. Collaboration with Indonesia and Malaysia is very important and necessary.

Btw not engines, certainly not sensors but semiconductor industry is our real weakness now, both in civilian and military applications and I believe it should be discussed more.

What is a 'partner' in your view? Is it a country interested in investing in KAAN production? Are there any countries with the technology needed to contribute to further KAAN development?

None of the countries that have expressed their interest in the KAAN can contribute to the development of the Burfis AESA radar, the TF-35000 engine, or any critical part of the fighter jet that Turkey is still developing. Being a partner does not necessarily mean that they will be developing the fighter jet since Turkey has already reached many critical, and successful steps towards the journey of reaching mass production. The Tier 1-2-3 of the F-35 program can give you a glimpse of what a partner could be considered in terms of the technology transfer.

Check this out :)

It's not the first time Indonesia has been linked to the KAAN. It will be healthy for Turkiye to get partners on board the KAAN program. The critical stages of the project have been accomplished, or are near completion. However, as we know the leverage and the offers that Turkiye made at the beginning of the program are not available today. Hopefully, there are still opportunities that can be discussed and offered just like the F-35 program. Do we know what South Korea offered to Indonesia as a participant in the KF-21 program?

View attachment 70255
The project was initially designed with Indonesia funding 20 percent of the 8.1 trillion won total cost, in exchange for technology transfer and participation in the production process.
As a result of the reduced financial contribution of Indonesia, the benefits Indonesia will receive, including technology transfer, will be scaled down proportionally.
However, specific details on the reduction in technology transfer have not been disclosed.

Development and mass production are two very different things. We might be at later stages of development, but for mass production and spreading the costs we still need partners.

KAAN will end up being more important geopolitically than militarily, it seems. Unless AKP find ways to fuck it up, like they do with every foreign policy decision and agenda they've managed to get their fingers into.

Egypt will go for J-31. Kaan has a long way to go before we can sell it with a national engine in meaningful numbers.

Rough comparison of Kaan, KF-21 and F-35

What‘s the use of this ridiculous comparison of 4.5 gen LO fighter jet KF-21 with 5th gen VLO fighter jet designs? Other than propaganda and bragging purposes?

Big sized 5th gen Kaan should be compared accordingly with F-22, J-20, SU-57.

Medium sized 5th gen F-35 compared with J-31, AMCA.

Medium sized 4.5 gen KF-21 with Typhoon, Rafale, F/A-18.

Also generally problematic are paper spec radars/sensors/avionics/datalink/features that are still in development or mockup stage compared to existing features of a fully developed F-35A, no? 🤷‍♂️

The goodie for Koreans: from 2026 on ROKAF will have both marvelous LO and VLO jets on the right deployed and flying to protect our sky, yeah 😁

If all goes to the plan Kaan will be the top fighter for longer than a decade's time.

Rough comparison of Kaan, KF-21 and F-35

I don't like this guy's aggressive mentality when discussing these issues. He’s always in a fight on Twitter, arguing with everyone and trying to prove the supremacy of his identity by comparing cherry-picked stats.

For one example we probably won’t see the Kaan using DIRCMs until the mid-2030s. Meanwhile, the KF-21 and F-35 won’t remain in their current configurations until then. That’s just one aspect, along with the very accurate comment from @Chocopie.

This TR Tech guy is bad. Sometimes he even openly lies. Not credible enough for this forum.

All EO systems will be present on the first aircraft delivered. Apart from the national turbofan, all stats are inline with what the first Blok 10s will have

Yıldırım-100 DIRCM already attended a NATO exercise. Yıldırım 300 is an improved version of it.

True. Block 10 will include all of those listed above plus 20 dB class stealth coating, basic MUM-T capability, and sensor fusion.
Planned improvements for later blocks are national turbofan, 25 dB class stealth coating, advanced MUM-T capability, advanced sensor fusion, and high-powered laser.

It took nearly 20 years for the F-35, from its first introduction to service in the USAF, to reach the operational capability that was promoted in before 2006, with Block 4 implemented today. TAI's new president speaks differently about the hyped and unrealistic claims of his predecessor. DIRCM was one blunt example. What I mean is that by the time the Kaan is predicted to reach a good level of operational capability, the F-35 and KF-21 won't be in the same place they are today.

Technology in the late 90s and early 2000s are inherently different compared to today's technology. Newcomers don't need 2,5 decades to develop and mature a 5th gen fighter.
