Funny Ottoman Grandkids, how could a non-state institution act like a state institution? "judicial coup against the freedom of religion and belief,” :D next they will claim TRNC courts captured by terrorists hahah.

Legal quagmire on Quran courses sparks debate in Turkish Cyprus

A legal debate on which institution is tasked to run Quran courses and the education of religious officials in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) further heated up on Thursday after a top court's ruling favored the Education Ministry rather than the religious authority, in a decision that is considered a ban on Quran courses.

A lawsuit filed for the annulment of the authority of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DIB) to open Quran courses in the TRNC in 2018 was concluded on Thursday. The Turkish Cypriot Supreme Court, acting as the Constitutional Court, ruled that all types of education should be "under the supervision and control" of the Ministry of National Education and Culture as part of the secularism principle.

The decision, which was criticized for supporting the perception that the DIB is an institution functioning outside the state, was reflected in the press that the Quran courses in the TRNC would be closed.

Following the reactions, TRNC Prime Minister Ersan Saner said Friday: "Our Constitution clearly states that no one can be deprived of the freedom to learn and apply the book and principles of a belief. Therefore, it is out of the question to ban Quran courses in the TRNC with the Constitutional Court decision."

In his written statement, Saner stated that after learning the news from the press, he met with DIB President Talip Atalay.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke about the issue on Friday. Erdoğan said it is not possible for Turkey to accept the TRNC Constitutional Court's decision. "First of all, the president of the Constitutional Court should learn about secularism. He also should learn how secularism is currently implemented in Turkey."

"Their attitude on this matter should change; until it changes, we will never tolerate steps that prevent freedom of belief and the Quran education of the children," he added.

Comparing the situation in Turkey to that of the TRNC and France, he said: "You know these things are solved in Turkey. Northern Cyprus is not a France. TRNC should implement what Turkey does in all areas."

Meanwhile, the court ruling was criticized by a wider audience. Turkey's Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said Thursday the decision "is the product of an ideological and dogmatic mind.”

"To interpret secularism in such a shallow and wrong way is a step toward abolishing fundamental rights and freedoms," Altun said on Twitter. He went on to say that secularism guarantees freedom of religion and cannot be used as a means of banning religious education.

The "wrong decision" is a threat to the existence of Turkish Cypriots and unity, Altun noted. Defining the decision as a "judicial coup against the freedom of religion and belief,” he stressed that it is the duty of everyone who respects democracy to react to this decision, which is "unacceptable.”

Altun added that Turkey will continue to support Turkish Cypriots in any way necessary and is ready to end the dangerous game being played in the TRNC.

The island of Cyprus has been mired in a decadeslong struggle between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots, despite a series of diplomatic efforts by the U.N. to achieve a comprehensive settlement.

The island has been divided since 1964 when ethnic attacks forced the Turkish Cypriots to withdraw into enclaves for their safety. In 1974, a Greek Cypriot coup aiming at Greece's annexation led to Turkey's military intervention as a guarantor power. The TRNC was founded in 1983.

The Greek Cypriot administration, backed by Greece, became a member of the EU in 2004, despite most Greek Cypriots rejecting a U.N. settlement plan in a referendum that year, which had envisaged a reunited Cyprus joining the EU.

Last paragraph is trying to say, we saved your ass 50 years ago so you will obey what we want 😜

You just have to bare a bit until a 10 or so years.
Turkey is going through a process of change from a convervative religious society to an atheist rational thinking a more free society.
Erdogan is the last bit of that dark regressive hand holding us back and his battery is over. He will definitely lose the election in 2023.

At this point what Turkish Cypriots do is crucial in a historical dimension. Dont let anything temporary like Erdogan to disrupt you.
None of these policies have a future. Look, 7 million new people from generation Z will vote for the first time in 2023. Polls show %80 of them hate Akp, Mhp and Bbp.
I am an atheist Turk and I live a life not so different than a W.European counterpart at my age except for the economy and having to use vpn to access porn. Just hold your breath a bit more.

What is that stronger hand? Requesting two sovereign state? Why would they accept it while they don't recognize us? Both Erdogan and Tatar are just looking for more sanctions while driving away from EU, there is no point of going those talks if you offer them to recognize TRNC, which you know they will reject.. Than this means status quo. Turks always lose at the diplomacy table.. Ey Europe, Ey Greeks.. recognize TRNC :) ok bro we will..

TRNC is not strong but weakest of all time atm.. Tourism is dead which is the driving force, covid is destroying TRNC, if we want a stronger hand we need to make the world believe there is a strong state here. If you want them to believe than don't threaten it like Erdo did couple of days ago. How we are stronger when the only ally we have, is bullying us? Don't even respect our courts.

Look at this dude, what he is doing to gain more popularity.. We are in RAMADAN and he is just lying.. continuing to "din elden gidiyeah" lie.. Our Constitutional court released full decision statement, I have shared here.. It clearly says " Quran courses does NOT contradicts with the secularism" and this guy, just like Erdo, repeating a lie that Laiklik Laiklik... They say court decided courses are against secularism while the truth is opposite.. it says it is freedom of religion but due to law... Ministry of Education should accredited / control who can teach children! The temporary imams that are not officially recruited by Religious Affairs Organization open this court case to give courses and create more imams without Religious Affairs and MoE, court rejected this also the permanent Imams rejected this.. The case is between imamss... But what happened? Turkish Media spreaded lies and used this.. And they are planting seeds of hatred, insulting Turkish Cypriots everywhere, in every comment I saw etc.. Creating hatred among brothers.." Turkish Cypriots are attacking our religion... Laik bastards.."

You know which newspaper spread this news first? Even before full decision announced.. It is called Afrika / Avrupa... some of you might recognize this name.. it is the ultimate lie machine, provocator in Northern Cyprus.. What is heartbreaking is, even after truth surfaced.. Turkish Media, Government and everyone continue to believe a lie instead of reality and continue to attack and insult.. Then you ask Why people become anti Turkey in Cyprus. This insults are not new, it is just surfaced more recently..

Even after 1974 Turks coming from mainland accused people being too secular.. Factories destroyed, sanctions put on us because of political mistakes than they said Cypriots are lazy... how can you produce if you can't sell? They moved many people from Turkey to Cyprus with different cultural texture then they said you don't like mainlanders :). Just like western cities of Turkey.. Always accused of being something, not enough Turk, not enough religious, not enough nationalistic, you can't manage your own army, you can't do that or that.. Treating like a dog. They flooded Cyprus with people than water resources depleted and for the population moved from Turkey, Turkey built a water pipeline... (Suyunuzu bile biz veriyoruz şükredin, keseriz suyunuzu ha) Aren't we drinking water before Turkey built a pipeline  We were living a desert until you saved us apparently.

I hate those people who are dividing nation, creating hatred... And for Turkey, I lost my hope.

The only thing would make TRNC to have stronger hand!! is, a Stronger TRNC like Taiwan.. Self Sufficient.. and recognized by couple of countries (For example Azerbaijan, what happened to that thing btw?)

They are so into the fantasy of every ethnicity getting their own country. They supported the idea of Kurdistan for years and they bug China for all these years.
Yet, when it comes to Turkish Cypriots for some reason they support the one state solution.

Your angriness about Turkey's policy is rather short-sighted and, frankly, unreasonable. The Europeans are the ones who lied and betrayed Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots many times during endless nights full of empty words. Nevertheless, all of this mess has its roots in this unrealisitic, implausible and stupid assumption of an independent Northern Cypriot state.

Foreign powers and people on the island must understand that Northern Cyprus is simply another Turkish province with a little bit more autonomy when it comes to internal matters. They do not have the right to be independent from the Turkish motherland IMO. All of this debate about a Northern Cypriot state is a charade and waste of time.

It's time to incorporate N.C. into Turkey officially in order to close this chapter and get along with our lives.

Unfortunately that is our fault, people and diplomats that know history of Cyprus know why it is not recognized. We sign a treaty in 1960 that island cannot split, no one can self-determination right and Turkey UK Greece guarantee that.. Turkey intervened to restore order and constitution with stating same agreements.. No one opposed that.. We declared a Federate state in 1975.. no one opposed that too.. Population exchange has been made.. everyone was fine with that... but private property issue never solved..200 000 Greeks left properties in the North and less than that Turks Left in the South, we haven't done property exchange, and we didn't give back extra land we got like Varosha.. But that was also because Greeks rejected every offer.. Than.... against all treatries we defunct federate state and declared a Republic.. North Cyprus could be lived officially as a Federate State.. Before solving the issues we try to get away but things turned differently, Greeks enter EU with Turkey's approval* etc. and we come to this date..

I would like to ask.. You won a war... why don't you enforce your terms?? Why don't you make a peace? Only reason for that is not giving excess land I guess, than this problem continue for ever

There is a saying about Turkish Cypriots, they were chosen among the most rebellious factions of Oguz Turks, from Karaman Region.. They were not migrated willingly but forced to relocate as they were problematic.. And couple of times they rebelled against Sultan :)) They were never been so religious too and kept their middle asia traditions for a long time.. This is just a saying but it is not much different than today's mindset. Turkish Cypriots has always been rebellious and will remain like that so no one could control them. Neither Brits, Greeks nor AKP. That is another reason many of us offended by this series.. it shows us weak.. We were not weak and Denktaş was not crying like that dude, he was a brave dude with balls, and we were outnumbered 4 to 1 but never surrendered, that series show that Turks slaughtered like chickens.. it is a disgrace.

This Islamist Arab Nationalism of the AKP is a cancer and it annoys me that they're trying to spread that disease to the KKTC.

How is the akp an islamist arab nationalist party when Islamism and Pan Arabism along with Arab nationalism contradict each other. Middle East in the cold war was a struggle between Islamism, Pan Arabism and Arab nationalism. You know why Islamist Arabs shun Pan Arabism like Baathism because it was founded by Christian Arabs and it was believed it was made to divide Muslims further.

Akp is nothing more than a party of conservative and islamist roots which uses populism they are not the only ones to use populism in Turkish politics. Only thing they vouch for arabs is only to put them under their sphere of influence under a united Ummah.

Britain urged to use Brexit freedoms to recognise North Cyprus as a sovereign country

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Express, the President of Turkish North Cyprus Ersin Tatar has urged Boris Johnson’s government to get behind his plan for a two-state solution which he will propose at the talks. He believes that after Brexit freed Britain from the EU it can now fulfill its role as a neutral guarantor for the eastern Mediterranean island, ensuring that both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are treated in a balanced way.

And Whitehall sources have told the Sunday Express that UK ministers are considering officially recognising North Cyprus as an independent country.
A resolution to the problem would help the 300,000 Turkish Cypriots in Britain whose country is currently not recognised and would see direct flights to it allowed for the first time.
Thousands of British citizens in Northern Cyprus would also be able to come and go more easily while it could become a popular holiday destination along with the south.
At one point in the Brexit negotiations, British citizens living in Northern Cyprus were threatened with arrest and fines if they crossed over into the south as EU leaders tried to put pressure on the UK for a deal.
A deal would also potentially bring a long-term agreement on the UK’s two military bases in Cyprus.
The island has been divided since 1964 when ethnic conflict forced Turkish Cypriots to withdraw into enclaves for their safety.

Then in 1974, a Greek Cypriot coup aimed at Greece’s annexation led to Turkey’s military intervention as a guarantor power.

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was officially founded in 1983.

Since then many attempts have been made to create a federal solution on the island with the last one brokered by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 2004 rejected in a referendum by the Greek Cypriots but supported by the Turkish Cypriots.

Recently former foreign secretary Jack Straw admitted that it had been a mistake to subsequently allow Cyprus to become a member of the EU until the issue was resolved.

President Tatar, whose election last year initiated the new round of talks, said: “We don’t want to waste time any longer. All these years we have been wasting valuable time.”

He pointed out that the discovery of oil reserves around the island had only served to increase the tensions.

He said: “They [the Greek Cypriots] pray for time because they believe all these years that Turkey will change its priorities, give up and pull out.

That would be a good move and one which would help Northern cyprus tremendously.

UK and France was two major countries that were accepting TRNC ID Cards and visa free entry up to 1990s, until we ruin our reputation.. Turkish Cypriots are also part of commonwealth. So UK always had that balancing role in order to protect her interest so they never want one side to win. They are just creating some buzz to encourage Greek side. UK did this many times, I don't expect them to recognize but at least they could allow direct flights and trade which would be game changing action

It's all our fault. Giving them freedom, privileges and the right of self-government was a mistake. Cut this crap and invade the island for a second time if necessary. People in the North who want to live in the same nation with those who tried to kill their ancestors should simply leave K.K. for good.
