Where Europe went wrong was being antagonistic towards Turkey. I remember when Turkey took down the Russian jet, the european narrative was "kick" Turkey out of NATO. Most europeans removed their air defence systems and incremental sanctions have been applied on Turkey by Europe. Then to make matters worse europeans supported greek hostility against Turkey. The Russians must have loved that, the only nation to show any balls towards Russia and europeans turn on that nation, with their anti-muslim, anti-non white sentiments. Putin must have been rubbing his palms at the stupidity of europeans nations.

We even have the french and Russia allied with warlord haftar in Libya and europe tried to undermine Turkey in Libya. The EU tried to place an arms embargo on the Libyan government, but allowed weapons to be shipped into Haftar from Russia and the Gulf states. That lead to the incident where the French boat tried to threaten the Turks and the Turks locked onto the french boat only for macron to go crying to NATO.

The only real counter to Russia in the past 10 years has been Turkey, whether it be syria, iraq, libya, azerbaijan, supplying weapons to Ukraine etc. Turkey is the only serious nation in NATO outside the USA in countering Russian expansionism.

Just like Turkey sold drones to poland, the moment the polish got a few Kurdish refugees they screamed to the world shit talking Turkey.

But if a day ever comes where Turkey says F-it and decides not to work against Russia but instead to submit to her interests, most of europe from the south to the north into central europe will come under Russian control.

Turkey on the side of Russia is game over for most of Europe.

It's regrettable what happened between Turkey and the European NATO.

But recent development might have change their calculus especially after the Russian openly asked for the removal of troops from Bulgaria and Romania.

A serious sober NATO is what people like Putin fears. Simply put, all his recent victories are because of western inaction. Again, NATO outmatched Russia in almost everything in the military field. It's just the higher ups that won't use them potential to the max.

Shtora's dazzler only works against guidance involving coded IR emissions which neither Javelin or NLAW use. Javelin is a fire and forget missile with a passive thermal imaging seeker while NLAW is an inertial guidance with terminal proximity fuzing. More modern wire-guided and beam riding ATGMs are also quite resistant to Shtora-1s dazzling technology. Overall they have designed a projectile APS system in the late 70s before it was cool for the jews to do the same from their experiences with lebanon, I think using the Arena system APS with projectiles will do the job. Also I heard that T-90s have gotten upgrade to T-14 standards which means afghanite system can be used.

Ukraine doesn't have that much of either, however. Most of its ATGM stocks are cold war legacy crap that are either getting or have already expired. I suspect much of the anecdotes about impenetrable Russian missile shields are really just the missiles showing their life.

Doesn't really matter though. Closing in with the tanks leading the charge is but one of the available tactics in the Russian repertoir. The Russians have near complete firepower mastery of the Ukrainians at this point. At virtually any range they can out observe, and out range the Ukrainians. They could just as easily just sit and have the heavy artillery pound their targets to dust while micro UAVs comb through the countryside looking for suitable catch basins for 152 mm shells and they can use the recon information to relay back to their artillery systems of launching tank mines in the air or rockets on where drone spotted additional targets before going kamikaze. Or let the RuAF have their fun and have their jets painted with stars all over. They are that spoiled for choices.

While I wouldn't refuse a Russian victory of Ukraine (singular) I would like to point out that the US has total air supremacy, supremacy in ISR and firepower in both Iraq and Syria against ISIS, yet it took 4 years to root them out. The same applies to the Kabani offensive in which RuAF supported Assad troops, again with complete air supremacy and firepower mastery over the rebels failed to advance and finally abandon the offensive.

Ukraine is better prepared than ISIS and the Syrian rebels, and US+NATO intelligence would be a huge help for Ukrainian commander to better prepare for an unexpected Russian offensive and potentially prepare in its tracks proper defense and traps.

The first batch of military aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine


The cargo includes about 91,000 kg of lethal weapons. The United States intends to continue to provide such assistance to the Armed Forces.

The first batch of military aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the amount of $200 million arrived in Ukraine from the United States. This was reported by the US Embassy in Ukraine.

"The first of several shipments of a $200 million security package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which was accepted by President Biden in December, arrived at Kiev's Boryspil airport on the morning of January 22," the statement said.

The cargo includes about 91 thousand kilograms of lethal weapons, including ammunition for Ukrainian soldiers on the front line.

"This assistance ... demonstrates the strong commitment of the United States to Ukraine's sovereign right to self-defense," the embassy added.

The U.S. has provided over $650 million in security supplies to Ukraine last year, including this aid package, and over $2.7 billion in such aid overall since 2014.

The United States intends to continue to provide such assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, supporting them in defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine from Russian aggression.

During the WW2 US provided $31.4 bln of aid to UK (equal to $595 bln in today's dollars). Without this aid UK had very little chance against Germany. While Russia supplied strategic resources to Germany during the Battle of Britain.
