I-Class frigates aren’t cheap. For the price of one I-Class you can get nearly 4 basic OPVs. (Sans extra weapons). I-Class are also more expensive to operate. Can any senior turkish mamber explain why 10 OPV ? Why not instead 4 or 6 I class frigate ? What is the strategic logic behined it ? Because it seems to me, in high intensity conflict environment OPV won't perform as good as I class frigate even if it is fitted with extra weapons and sensors . @Anmdt @Yasar.
In the island infested Aegean and also North East Mediterranean we need patrol boats that are more suited to these seas and have teeth. This way as @Anmdt has explained a lot of load will have been taken away from Corvettes’ and Figates’ shoulders.
As well as patrolling our shore line in good breadth, they will be very useful escort ships. A very important work they will undertake will also be the capability to launch ULAQ class unmanned sea vessels armed with ASW and ASUW weapons like anti ship missiles or torpedoes to strike enemy positions and vessels from a stand off distance.
